It's called "integrity".

I'm sorry but that's retarded. There's a time for standing up for yourself and a time for self preservation, and this was not the time to stand up for oneself.
You got it on camera, now get the hell away from the obviously deranged individual and report it to the commanding officer.
Making him angrier is only going to end badly.

I just noticed you edited in the picture of the Tiananmen Square protest. I honestly cannot believe you're comparing someone recording a cop freaking out with a rifle and verbally accosting him to potentially make the situation worse to someone standing up to a tyrannical and oppressive government regime. Apples to oranges, dude. Huge difference.

If only every cop was Joe Friday.

Under your logic, that would have been precisely the time for self-preservation over integrity and standing up for what is right.
The only way anything will change is if people refuse to back down in the face of assholes with guns.
It's obvious that cop is not up to handling stressful situations. Makes me wonder why a guy like that would want to be a cop, which is by nature a stressful job. These kinds of guys are in departments all over the country, using military surplus.
If you ever wondered why cops lob flashbangs into homes indiscriminately and injure babies in cribs, it's cause a guy like this was giving the orders or carrying them out or both.

Backing down to anyone with a gun who is also batshit insane enough to say something like that near someone with a camera is another step towards not getting your ass shot

I honestly think there is a subset of police officers, just like there is a subset of people in the military, that sign up because they want a legal way to crack heads and be abusive to others without consequences. They're cowboys and thugs with badges that revel in every opportunity to bully people and go to bed dreaming about the day they finally get to pull a gun and waste somebody.
When you think about it, X number of people are just shitty human beings that enjoy being terrible to others. There are a limited number of professions that allow someone to act like that without going straight to prison. Being a cop has the advantage of rarely having people shoot back at you. I'm not trying to demean the profession, I'm just saying that it holds a certain appeal for certain fucked up kinds of people. Unfortunately, departments don't always do a particularly good job of screening those people out, especially at the local level where the barriers to entry aren't as high. Maybe it's a need for manpower, maybe it's lack of proper hiring practices, whatever. Some people manage to get through, and they end up gunning down unarmed people because they didn't follow instructions to their satisfaction.
Also, that kid that got blown up by the flashbang? The department is refusing to cover his medical care. http://kdvr.com/2014/08/18/georgia-police-refuse-to-pay-medical-bills-after-swat-tosses-grenade-into-babys-crib/
I've worked several jobs and my experience is that there are assholes at every job. Assholes bag groceries, assholes fix computers, assholes drive trucks, and, sometimes, assholes become cops. The problem is when the average asshole is given the responsibility of enforcing the rule of law through batons, armored vehicles, and assault rifles. In reality there probably are just as many assholes that stock shelves for a living as there are that are cops but cops wield far more power than a clerk in a store and are such held to higher expectations.

Antagonizing the guy with a gun is a bad idea. What if after repeated jabs calling him "Officer go fuck yourself" he snapped and actually shot someone?
There is a time and a place to stand up for what is right, and a time and a place to refuse to back down in the face of assholes with guns. This was not one of either.
He recorded the video, the next step is to back off and go find the CO and show it to him. NOT further antagonize him. You don't need his name and badge number, his on-duty sergeant WILL know who he is by face.

Then maybe something would fucking change in this country!
People in Afghanistan risk getting blown up by suicided bombers or shot or decapitated on the internet to vote. To vote! Facing down a single douche cop with a gun who will lose his job and go to prison if he shoots you is nothing compared to facing down Taliban psychos who face no consequences.
The first amendment is, by far, the single most vital right we still have in this country. It is worth ANYTHING to protect. It is worth standing up to a guy with a gun who wants to take it away from you.
We're not going to have any rights left if we let thugs with badges and guns dictate if or when we get to use them.
"good guys with guns"

The system doesn't really seem to be working for the people of Ferguson or St. Louis.
Also there is always a time to march against government tyranny because it should never be allowed to stand.
Haven't seen anyone mention it yet but the dude was been suspended indefinitely without pay.
That doesn't mean its not wrong or a breach of rights

or that it is not a breach of Federal color of law statues

I'm not sure that applies though. "willfully failed to keep an individual from harm"
The individual wasn't harmed but that sentence needs someone to be harmed and for an officer to have been able to stop that harm or something
either that or I am literal retard
Some people oughta not be policemen, and this gentleman is a perfect example.
Don't get me wrong I'm not siding with the cop and I definitely think he over-reacted HARD with his rifle but what I wanna know is:
How fucking stupid are you to verbally fuck with ANYONE (not just a cop) who is obviously unhinged enough to point a loaded rifle at you or someone else and threaten to kill them?
What the fuck is going through your mind that makes that seem like a good idea?
"This man has a deadly weapon. He just threatened to kill someone. I am recording the situation and obviously making him uncomfortable with that alone. I know, let's fuck with him by being a sarcastic twat instead of just saying "Well alright then" and walking the fuck away."
Excuse me, but who started verbally abusing whom? Mr. camera dude or officer Ikilluall go fuck yourself?

It sure is easy to tell other people, over the Internet, that they should risk their lives for the sake of your ideals, isn't it?
"hello officer go fuck yourself. officer go fuck yourself is trying to kill me." :v:
also what the fuck he muzzle sweeping everyone.. wtf dangerous & unprofessional as hell

I don't know about you, dude, but I'm not at all willing to die to make a petty point.
I will gladly lay down my life for the greater good if it actually accomplishes something but getting yourself or someone else killed because you can't accept that a cop won't give you his name is just plain stupid.

Seems to have worked in this case. An indeterminate amount of time after the first video (but within the same night obviously) the cop was publicly chastised by a fellow officer AND his sergeant. The next day he was pretty much fired.
