It's a hot-button issue. Some vitriol is to be expected, honestly.
I've had people ask me what being depressed is like. I honestly don't know of any way to possibly describe it adequately.
Indeed. Interesting note: From a philosophical standpoint we can't even really describe physical pain or any subjective experience for that matter. We might use words such as "burning", or "pinching", but those words only carry an approximate description on what you feel.
See also: Qualia.

I love me some qualia in everything. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline]
"Is the color purple I see the same as the color purple other people see?"
Pretty much. I had a long-winded discussion about this in another thread as well.
The most horrible part of depression in my experience is the times when it gets so bad you literally are incapable of creating coherent thought.
Sorry if this has been posted, but tgwtg is doing a stream now about this http://www.ustream.tv/channel/rdaextra
I think it is a little disgusting he locked himself in a bathroom with his wife who loves him on the other side probably pleading with him only to kill himself.
rip in peace
=( I took a picture with him. He was a really nice guy. [t]http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/Billy2600/523361_492191840791222_1108279608_n_zpsdfb49ea3.jpg[/t]
this is horrible. I remember jew wario from his You Can Play This series on youtube, his old videos were great, and he really did seem like a cheerful person
PM me your paypal.
Give 5 bucks to a charity related to mental health issues instead [editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
Hey zeke didn't you message me a while ago asking about depression or something?
I think so, I remember your username
I think it is a little disgusting he locked himself in a bathroom with his wife who loves him on the other side probably pleading with him only to kill himself.
I hope you never understand the pain that could make someone do that. When you're in so much pain that you just want it to end, and everything about you is just a confused mess. There's no logic there. Everything is just swirling together and in that moment the entire world feels like it's crushing you. We lost a good one. RIP.
R.I.P
The most horrible part of depression in my experience is the times when it gets so bad you literally are incapable of creating coherent thought.
I infrequently deal with insomnia. When it decides to bite me in the butt, I become an anxious wreck and my mind is full of noise. It can snowball into an episode of depression because my sense of confidence and self-control plummets.
I know a lot of you don't mean to be insensitive, but I think its horrrrribly offensive when somebody says a suicide victim is "selfish."
So sad. I can understand how the guy felt... Life is just overwhelming sometimes. He isn't a coward. Nor is he selfish. In some people's lives, Happiness is fleeting and it goes just as fast as it comes. Depression always seems to come back worse and worse every time it leaves you and sometimes it culminates to a point where you simply cannot support it anymore. Still. My heart goes out to his family, his friends, his fans and most of all; him. Hopefully he's at peace now.
we already do that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5150_%28involuntary_psychiatric_hold%29
Can I just mention that the 5150 thing is one of the worst things ever (in the cases where a person is a danger to themselves)? At least in my experience. I've been put under this hold before, and I was sent to a mental hospital. It was not a pleasant experience. Rather than getting any sort of help, I simply became afraid of ever going back to a mental hospital.
Suicide is one of the most selfish acts I can think of. Sure suicide sucks, sure mental conditions and life can be hard, but suicide is selfish because it totally disregards the feelings of everyone else in the person's life in favor of giving up, at least in cases like this.
You don't usually realize that when you're suicidal. Often, you don't see yourself as impacting anyone's life, and that you can trick yourself into believing that you're 100% worthless. And a lot of times the darkness just sort of overwhelms you, cliche as that sounds
-snip, posted in wrong thread-
That Radio Dead Air steam with Nash was one of the most difficult things I've sat though.
Yeah and "What if I'm just such a horrible person that I don't care" (what effects both my suicide and the means of it has on people)' when threatening to run into traffic....wait what was going on? I'll be back, consider post unfinished

Right, it was going to be a comment on how not treating suicide too sympathetically, even though it's mean, might reduce rates of suicide (IE catholic countries) but...I was sort of was taken somewhere/sometime else by the subject. My bad
People always talk about Hyperbole and a Half's 2 part series on depression, supposing it to be one of the best ways depression has ever been described. If you are tired of this "selishness" debate, I have a better one for you: If he didn't had a gun this wouldn't happen
If you are tired of this "selishness" debate, I have a better one for you: If he didn't had a gun this wouldn't happen
Because guns are the only means of suicide...
If you are tired of this "selishness" debate, I have a better one for you: If he didn't had a gun this wouldn't happen
Theres other ways one can commit suicide you know, so not necessarily. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] Like, say, hanging, or jumping from a high height, or stabbing yourself.
If you are tired of this "selishness" debate, I have a better one for you: If he didn't had a gun this wouldn't happen
You're right. And if he didn't have a lock on his bathroom this wouldn't have happened either.

Or saying you hate Insane Clown Posse in the streets of Detroit.
