I think the problem is that people can't see mental problems like they can physical problems and thus don't understand it, particularly if they've never been through it themselves.

it's not a topic one can truly understand without going through it yourself (which is a hell I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy)

One of the most accurate parts is the people talking to you. They don't know how it feels to not see ANY hope or solution, because they can't comprehend not being able to find anything. do you know what was going through his head. No you do not. what i feel is that thereis a few things either a) hes a manic depressant and didnt take his meds b) a big scenario that is well out of their control or c) a financial crisis could of been a key role

I've suffered some depression and I can't think of much that would help really. Thankfully it went away after a while on its own. If you're not a professional therapist or similar, chances are you can't help people who are depressed. Obviously it depends on the type of depression and what not.

True, but guns do not make that much of a difference as you'd think. If you look at global suicide rates, countries such as UK, Canada, Norway and New Zealand are pretty close to America, even though guns are illegal in all of those countries

Guns aren't illegal in any of those countries though. Handguns are basically impossible to get in the UK, and maybe Norway/New Zealand as well, but you can get hunting rifles/shotguns

depends on what kind of depression
my depression is of the kind where everything just makes me upset and i just lie in bed for a couple of days not wanting to see anyone; at least till a manic episode hits and i stay up for a couple of days doing all sorts of fun things with the happiest mood imaginable
the root cause of depression is usually the same but personality and culture makes people express it differently. thats why its hard to really "describe" it.

Which is impressive, but when announcements of death are made on Facebook (from what I've seen in my circle of humans) they are met with likes, not because anyone likes the fact that they're dead (they could, I guess). I don't really know the right word, but it's definitely okay, and is kinda the only thing you can do that isn't commenting on FB (and sharing, I guess)

This will sound like really bad teenaged poetry but for me it was like suffocating but everyone else was fine. That's the best way I can explain it.
Ever known one of those people with the "talent" of always knowing exactly what the most hurtful thing to say is, usually something with just enough truth in it that you're doubting and hating yourself for hours afterward?
