Damn. Jack Layton was the first interesting guy in politics for me.
Will still vote NDP when I'm 19.
A great man whom I will honour by keeping optimistic! He had my vote earlier this year. RIP
I bet you guys never knew that Jack Layton modeled when he was younger:

Oh my.
Should I just link it, for the lack of a mustache?

I'm not surprised; his bone structure was fantastic.
To those people who have been arguing politics about the Harper majority here, saying that he shouldn't be in office, regardless if we had used something more representative of voter opinion Harper would have been elected, just not with a majority, and the NDP would have had a greater opinion in policies, which arguably would not be a bad thing.
As well, just because your favourite politician died, doesn't mean you should wish death upon your least favourite instead. The death of anyone is a tragedy, regardless of their views or politics, and it's against everything the NDP stood for, against everything most Canadians stand for, to be wishing death upon another, especially for the reasons of an unfavourable death of another politician. I understand many of you don't like Harper, but him dying is not the right or a pleasant way for him to leave office, it's not a pleasant way for any politician to leave office, and wishing death upon Harper won't bring back Jack.
As for saying you shouldn't come here and declare your political views, I stated in the OP that I didn't agree with everything Jack believed in, and those who've seen me before know I'm mostly Conservative, but that doesn't mean I don't feel sad that Jack is gone, and that doesn't mean I don't recognize the good he and his party have done and could do in the future, and that doesn't mean that I hate all of their policies or the politicians either. As I said, Jack had a charisma about him that is rather uncommon among politicians, he's a man that you don't see everyday, and he's someone you could actually trust when he said he gave a shit. Just because you're of one view doesn't mean you don't see the good in the others and their leaders, and doesn't mean you should be persecuted for believing what you do. It's a free country, we're entitled to believe what we want to, just because it's not what you do doesn't mean we can't bereave the passing of someone we may not have agreed with but you did.
And matt, you really shouldn't have started that shit about "majority of Canadians," for a few reasons, one of them being it's not true. The majority of ridings did, but only about 40% of Canadians. 51% is a majority, the majority didn't vote for any one party, though technically a majority voted against Harper. I agree with most that FPTP is shit and we need something more representative of the populace's opinion, like MMPR. It's not like most MP's give a shit about their riding anyways, most of them are just there for the party.
My moustache is tearing up. What a chin - and what a man.

I swear, I've had my counselor tell me that and I've just seen someone else on Reddit claim that.
My condolences.

I had a friend of mine claim that once too, before Jack died, the street name was Methuen Ave. in Toronto.
My favorite politician died on my birthday. That sucks.
