Give Russia an inch and they'll take a mile, we have to stop them now before the rest of Ukraine is threatened.

It seems so and they're holding a referendum for that, which is why Russia should fuck off and wait for the referendum results.
Hell at this point they can just mess with the referendum results.
someone should give ukraine a nuke that would be a right laugh m8
Not quite buying this. Leaving aside nukes and naval warfare, US doesn't seem to have much capability to engage continental Russia. OTOH, if that were to happen, all of Russia would be up in arms, thrilled to fight the "fascist aggression" (strange how this phrase gets thrown around even in these days).
I don't think you quite understand the pure ridiculousness of American military power. Yeah it looks all stupid when it's fighting a bunch of insurgents in Afghanistan, but woe to the country that directly engages it with its military.
It would be bloody no doubt, but I am 100% sure that America would come out on top sooner than later.
Well yeah, but that doesnt give russia the right to just take it
I'm not saying it does but I mean, if Russia wanted ALL of Ukraine they'd take it under the pretense of stabilizing the region or not recognizing the new Government or something like that. From what I've seen they're only basing in Crimea and helping the citizen militias that were already there to cut the peninsula off from mainland Ukraine.
Again. I'm not saying they're in the right, but I think everyone should calm down before WWIII starts.
As somebody who only has 40 days until they leave for bootcamp, this news makes me very happy.
Nobody with basic knowledge of geopolitics seriously thought the US would intervene militarily. We didn't for Georgia (a country that is very near and dear to us), we won't for Ukraine. Unjustified invasions only lead to military intervention if there's a clear political or economic gain to be had and a weak opponent (see: Desert Storm), and if there isn't the result is political maneuvering and sanctions instead.
Hell no. Europe needs to clean up it's own shit for once.

yeah we can start by permabanning you from this forum
I'm not understanding the criticism coming from non American users who frequently criticize the U.S. for being too militaristic.

where is it?
where is it?
In the "Obama calls Putin" thread when is suggested the U.S. not be involved. Also with vague and generic insults/statements throughout all these threads.
Economic war will drag Russia down, simple.

oh
is that it?
I hope Canada just supplies aid or whatever.
We don't need to be in another war. We need to look after things in our own country.
Shit the mayor of a capital city is getting drunk and doing cocaine I don't think we should be trumping our horns to the sight of battle
They might if we get involved..
Putin seems like far from a good guy, but I doubt he's that fucking irrational, let's be fair. Not even the Soviet-era government could bring themselves to nuclear conflict when the Americans were proxy-warring with them.
[editline]3rd March 2014[/editline]
And let's be fair, America pulled some supremely heinous shit in the Cold War, and so did Russia. If the goddamn Ukraine crisis is what they draw nukes over, I'd be extremely surprised.
Russia starts using nukes on said country US most likely will get involved but as it stands, they won't intervene and sadly we don't need to

"Ridiculousness" :v: . I'd say I have a decent grip about it. America has undoubtedly the world's supreme navy and air force, but those don't factor very well into an expeditionary land war. Logistical effort to bring a land force great enough to deter Russia is immense, when it can play into its strengths, conscription army and friendly terrain right next to its main military bases.
Conceivably, what would US do? Ship troops into eastern NATO bases to frighten Russia? Having executed this risky move Russia doesn't seem at all timid at the moment.

Just drone the fuck out of every single truck and logistics base and we call it a day.
No food no soldiers

Russia has no need to use nukes. They can steamroll over most of the eastern European countries with conventional forces in a matter of weeks. Way easier than Hitler's invasion of most of the surrounding countries.
The worst that is likely to happen is economic sanctions - but those WILL hurt Russia if most of Europe follows through with them.
