Why is it such a bad comparison? Redskin is a pejorative term for Native Americans and a caricature of Native Americans is used as their logo.
native americans used it to identify themselves from the time colonists arrived to distinguish themselves from them. it was never meant to be a racist term, and me and at least 90% of native americans don't see it that way. why should we erase something that reminds us of the people that we're here before us? now they're going to change the name to the fucking "Washington Warriors," is every name in the future just going to be some generic boring term in the off chance someone is "offended?" Captain Kep pretty much sums up my feelings:
While I kinda agree with you, that's not the way to put it. According to Wikipedia the Redskins have been the Redskins for over 80 years now, that's 80 years of no one giving a shit about the name of an American Football team. I mean in a poll about 80% of people said that they should keep the name. I mean the team name isn't even meant to be offensive, its a team that choose the nickname of a group of fearsome warriors who fought tooth and nail for centuries against an alien people with better technology and the advantage of bringing smallpox of which they were immune. I mean when I hear "Redskin" I think of an Indian wielding a tomahawk charging into battle, I do not think racism. Putting it in a better way than Avin, the name has gone over 80 years without trouble, of course there were some people offended, but everyone everywhere is offended by something and if we conformed to stop offending the world would be a very, very bland place. Society has a whole has gotten more and more sensitive, and more and more offended about things that have been around for a long time and no one cared about until recently. The Redskins, for good or for ill, is rooted in several peoples cultural understanding. Sorry for the text wall but its my honest opinion
i think "nigger" is a bit more contemptuous than "redskin" we have baseball teams called the Braves too, and the Indians. so do we have to get rid of those too? fuck it let's just erase history and culture that isn't actually racist for the sake of placating people

His history book told him so. YOU ARE OFFENDED BY THIS. Now shut up already.
