If a game spontaneously gets shut down after 3 months I think there's a lot of people that deserve a refund. It wouldn't be a big deal if it was after a year or two but 3 months. I don't even own it and that just pisses me off.
Realtime worlds has gone into administration, they have ceased trading so they aren't accountable for giving out refunds.
Hahaha, glad I never bought it.
Really disappointing, I played the game from beta too. I think what pisses me off more then anything is the way they handled it. Today was the day they're suppose to release the new patch and add new content (PureSkills rule set - No upgrades at all, all basic gear.) But instead they just out of the blue killed the servers, official APB site, and RTW site all at the same fucking time. (They're up, but most of the features cannot be accessed, hell account information isn't even available, I can't log on to my account to change info.)
This game was highly ambitious, but it had all the elements for a successful game. However it didn't get good reviews from the start, but it is hard to judge a MMO based on what you first get. It was only 3 months old, still in it's infancy stage (as i like to call it.) It needed some fine-tuning, which they where working on. Hackers needed to be dealt with, slowly but surely they where banning people. Had a bumpy start, but it could have turned out to be a fantastic game. I only lost 40USD because i bought it retail, afterwords i made RTW in game and used it to sub for the period that it was up. Didn't cost me a damn thing other then the retail.
If it made it past three months, I can't imagine what type of content they would add (tons of new clothes, cars, weapons, customization options.) Possibly even more zones and new areas. It could have expanded to be a great game. It had a lot too offer in the MMOFPS world.
I'm incredibly disappointed, really sucks coming home from work one day and thinking "Oh I'll go have some fun on APB" and see a huge "SRY WE'RE CLOSED" sign up. I lost a lot of respect for RTW and for what they've done. I surely hope that APB doesn't haunt them, but if they do come back, I'm going to be much more careful. Now i got to find another MMO that I want to go back too or try. Hell might not even play a mmo for a while.
Another one bites the dust.
Shame, it was the only MMO type of game I was interested in, but I didn't get it and even if I did I won't be able to play with my friends overseas, or if I do I can't play with anyone back home.
Great concept, bad development/implementation thats pretty much why.
It has already been removed off of the Steam store page, what the hell is going to happen to the people that purchased it?
They lost $49.99 for the game plus whatever they paid for the subscription.
Glad I never got this, the videos and reviews just killed any interest in it. Can't say I'm surprised it died.
Although I hold the game in very high regard (despite the horrible reviews and numerous flaws), RTW closing down the servers and not even releasing them to the public lost any respect I still reserved for them as a company and game designer. Indeed it did have many perks; the customization was the most amazing in any game, hands down. The latest patches (specifically 1.4.1) even showed promise of change and fairness by adding loads of content and attempting to balance their game. Unfortunately they were trying to balance an elephant with feathers. They designed a system to keep track of how "dangerous" you are for matchmaking which, simply put, didn't work. Inevitably that would force you to ragequit after several hours of playing, unless you were hacking or wasted more money and bought several overpowered items, which it shat out for breakfast every morning, blowing any fairness out of the water. However, half of the user base being hackers because they neglected to turn on any anti-hack protection was what really made me stop playing.
In the end you may ask, "Was it worth buying?" Yes, if for no other reason for the customization and being able to play with my friends.
fuck, i feel bad for the devs.
they worked for YEARS on that game, only to have it unplayable in less than one.
Make it free to play with cash shop, re-release.
That's for not releasing it in Australia.
Well I wouldn't of purchased it anyways, not my thing.
Sucks. I had a lot of fun with this game.
Still, it would be nice if they compensated everyone somehow. Probably not gonna happen.
So they just went "wequitkthxbai" or is there some story they ain't telling? Can someone find out? I had no luck.
i think it has to do with them having no money and going into the UK's equivalent of bankruptcy
Fuck. I bought this game when it came out and I decided I was gonna actually start playing it tomorrow and now I read this. I didn't even play it for more than an hour. :argh:

God damn it, that pissed me off. I'm in the same boat as you Jake. I call a Class Action Suit for this bullshit.
In my opinion, RTW deserved my fifty dollars even though I didn't even use my initial twenty hours, why? Because they had the balls to go against the cookie cutter WoW formatted MMO. The industry sees something that works and they rehash it a thousand times, this stuck out and although it wasn't a very polished idea, it was a new concept nevertheless.

I agree. I haven't even gone through my preorder 40 hours, and this shit happens. 60 bucks for 3 months of gameplay? I don't fucking think so.
Didn't that game just come out?
People want to sue someone who went bankrupt?

I bet this guy is feeling bad today.
Hopefully RTW pays for his tattoo removal.

I said the same thing about Shyamalan movies and got reamed for it.
So glad i didn't buy this, I was only interested in it because it looks more of a customizable samp.

Agree.
Wow, mega pissed. Fuck.
So who's with me on the Class Action lawsuit?
RTW, sweet game, had fun with the 6 HOURS I PLAYED, prepare to get assfucked by the law.
Glad I got refunded on my pre-order. They should at least release the server software for people who want to run private servers.
