I guess it takes more than just hard work.
I went to private school through the 3rd grade. It fostered my interest in reading and math (but not science, because it was a Christian school). By 5th grade, I was reading at a high school level.
I've been going to a private school my entire life. My parents have managed to get my brother, sister and soon me through school. You have NO idea how much of a toll it has taken on my parents' economical situation. We are ridiculously in debt and my parents just wanted me to have the best education. The reason we did it is because we have moved around a lot and the only way to get a proper education at the time was through private education. I have seen my parents cry at how difficult life is because of private education. For you to just act as if you know everything after going through one fucking grade is disgusting. You actually fuel my anger, I have had a terrible day and your idiocy is only making it worse. Public education is essential, sure private schools are fine, but we need strong public education. Its the same with healthcare, everybody should have state payed basic healthcare and those who choose to, can have private healthcare. Now stop fucking talking about shit you don't know.

While I agree with your point, I believe Ridge meant he was in private schooling up through 3rd grade (4 years).

And I've been in private school long enough to actually have a developed opinion on it, rather than what I learned in primary.

Its kinda fucking tough to focus on schoolwork when your life is shit and everything around you is going to shit. Have you ever been an inner city kid? While distractions are just as bad as the ones in private schools (they're different, but in their own context they are just as bad), inner city kids have to deal with a lot of stuff; crime, poverty, etc...
Having all the money you want for things like games, movies and drinking is very difficult. I barely do my school work because I have so many others things to do.

Before it gets air it's democrat blue so you're double-socialist.
Is there a medical procedure I could go threw to reverse my socialist blood?
[editline]23rd February 2011[/editline]
Maybe just inject dollar bills and eagle tears directly into my bloodstream.

But what about white blood cells? My blood would be red, white, and blue just like the American flag.
Why not allow schools to privatize, and merely have the Dept of Education be the group that standardizes the study material? Private schools universally have higher scores and better standards of learning and safety. Just standardize the lesson plans and the text books, and you are good to go. And teachers will have to actually make the grade themselves in order to maintain employment.
Children who attend private schools generally have well-educated parents. Affording attending a private school requires at least a middle class job.

Ridge, pay attention to his comment because it's true.
My school used busing, which meant I went to school with inner city kids. There's A LOT of social pressure to be defiant and not act like an obedient "white kid." Not only does it make you a social stigma, but it makes you look vulnerable, which can be dangerous. Because I was an obedient nerd, some kids tried to take advantage of the fact that I was naive and suburban. I was robbed in high school and beat up a few times in middle school. That's the situation even without actually being in the inner city, but when you're actually in the inner city, being seen as weak doesn't just mean you get beat up and robbed, it could cost you your fucking life. It actually is more than just a "distraction," like Earthen said.
Yeah, it's technically possible to rise out of the ghetto, and people have done it. But the difference between a successful suburban person and a successful person brought up in poverty is that only the best of the best can rise out of the impoverished situation. But Ridge, don't fucking judge them when you don't even fucking know them or their situation. People at my school have tried the military "shape up" approach and they only push back harder as you do it. You can't be a giant pussy, but you can't treat them like bad apples just right off the bat either.
