Maybe rich people are seen as greedy and capitalistic because they have to / had to BUST THEIR ASS to get all the stuff and still have to, causing stress and worry and paranoia of losing it, making their social interactions more impulse based than thought based, more cautious and paranoid of "lower classes"? I might also be talking out of my ass.

bullshit, we know that all the rich people does one thing, screw people over... rather it's in the law, or something political, or making some cheap shoddy piece of shit product and watch as it make millions because people don't think. The rich don't give a fuck about anything but making money, look at apple, microsoft, activision, EA, and those rich people. This is what I hear all the time.... I never met a rich person in my life, but i do hear about many bad actions that the rich can cause. Microsoft ignore the people who say windows 8 is bad, they still press on, as they want money, not the people's opinions. Look at apple... contently making pataints to block us from developing certain things so they can get a monopoly on certain things like ipods and iphones, want to find people to stumble into something and sue the hell out of them over it. Not only that, but half of the products are weak, my mother who bought an ipad long time ago, contantly dies on her and won't recharged at all, she continue to have the same problem with other ipod products until she moved on to other brands that are not made by apple. So they making money by selling cheap products so they can break the next 2 weeks and come back again to buy another one at the same price, and the whole thing bad business repeats and the people themselves don't noticed a god damn thing. is this the attitude that i see in most of these "rich" people? the people who just look at you, thinking they are saying "why is this slave looking at me with that damn smile, i hope this bum loses his job, along with with his family homeless, fucking poor people don't know how to make a successful business like me."?
Depends on their mood. Yesterday there was a "make me laugh" thread on /b/. OP was a multimillionaire. I was certain I had it in the bag, but image limit was reached before I could post my contribution. Some random candyass won, and he didn't even post a pic that was that funny. Suffice to say, that dude got delivered $31,000 to his PayPal that night. For nothing more than posting a JPEG on an imageboard.
Musa I was one of the richest men, and he gave away his gold and shit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_I_of_Mali Just reminded me of this article :V

Money does do bad things to people, but "the rich" are not just automatically bastards.

I have yet to see people and more of, that are not automatically bastards.

Study is payed off by rich awful selfish people.
I make... quite a bit and I'd like to think I'm nice :(
Oh okay lets raise their taxes then if they're so selfless
no see theyre super nice now lets forget the tax thing pls
I think the key point here is their study sample - Wealth driven college students. These are not entrenched, old investment bankers. I think that's not really representative of the wealthy people that have the bad rap
That's because what's interesting to hear about is people being dicks, there's plenty of rich people doing good things, Bill Gates is a great example.
even tho bill gates is a nice guy, he spent his whole career being a dick and basically exploiting everything for personal gain. shows how people can be both dicks and nice at the same time i guess.
you can only look at notable things he has said. back in those days racism was very common since it was the age of colonialism and the popular trend at the time was looking at other skin colors as being subhuman to justify that colonialism. so charles darwin being racist shouldn't be surprising. it doesn't make the thoughts right, but it shows that even smart people are susceptible to the environments they were born in.
Yeah, and some of the notable quotes of his I've seen of his have him being skeptical of the idea of eugenics and the idea of races being a llegitimate system of classification.
uh because taxes don't all go towards one group of persons?
Why should you be obligated to share? I do support taxes, the way they are minus the loopholes. though capital gains should be taxed just like income. But why should they distribute a much larger chunk than other people.
Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that they questioned a bunch of college students about what a rich person would do? Obviously no one maintains the stereotype that ambitious people are selfish and lacking empathy. It's those that maintain a sense of power over others with the money they have, not the money they want. I dunno, it's an interesting study, but I don't feel as if it disproves the common notion that those with vast amounts of wealth are unsympathetic to human plights. Mostly because I feel that the lack of empathy stems from them living in a completely different reality than those who are suffering live in. College students aren't exactly the rich, powerful people that have earned the reputation that the financial elite have. It does, however, give some insight into the cause and effect, so to speak. What I mean is that a desire to work in economics, or other financial-centric careers, doesn't necessarily indicate a selfish person. But perhaps as they enter these large corporate institutions and are given incentive to exploit people, as well as certain opportunities are presented for wealth at the expense of others, they become more desensitized to the needs and desires of anyone outside of the self. It's no secret that extremely competitive financial institutions, in the the likes of Wall Street, are cut-throat work environments and exploitation and ruthlessness are necessary actions to take. Just a thought.
They can be nice. That doesn't mean they will be nice.
