I can't wait to see how advances in technology changes things.
Maybe this time, robot battles will be seen as less of a novelty, and starts getting serious given technology is more ubiquitous in everyone's mind now. Though from what I remember back then, robots were more like glorified remote controlled cars. I wanna see more arms, projectiles, dexterity; more variety.
Hopefully the matches are less regulated... and longer. Technology has seriously advanced since the last time this was big, and it'll be interesting to see what they'll put together now.

To build such machines requires more engineering on those working parts, which means more weight, which means you have to take weight away from something else to compensate. That's why the robots you mostly saw were armored ramps or flippers: Armored ramps are the simplest, most robust, and often cheapest designs you can make, and flippers were usually the best way to try and counter those. (granted there were a few spinner-bots that had great success, such as Ziggo and Nightmare) Even walking machines weren't practical despite walkers being given a weight handicap, because the way most people design legs means you now have these long flimsy-ish appendages that are easy to destroy and will almost certainly incapacitate your robot (a notable exception to this was Drill-zilla, which used more of a cam system with feet to make a walker that effectively had very tiny legs hidden within its armored shell, the simplicity of which allowed them to use that weight handicap to put yet more armor on it, creating a frightfully fast and nigh-impenetrable block of aluminum).
rasberry pi powered death robots can be a thing now?
Make Grant Imahara the guy who interviews the contestants in the garages before and after the fights
I went to a robotics camp at UCF with "Buzz". He taught us all about robots and inspired me to become so into electronics and robotics. Link to his bot: http://teamdavinci.com/buzz/Buzz_BBscans2.jpg Rest in peace buzz, you're the man
They better bring back Grant Imahara for at least one episode.
I thought the exact same thing when I saw the title.
And now I have an erection
Ban flippers
I still remember the greatest moment in Battlebots. 2 heavyweight spinners (details are vague since this was at least 15 years ago) collided into each other, and one lost a spike on the outside. That spike flew off so fast it fucking penetrated through and got stuck in the Plexiglas. I was on the side it hit and I'm pretty sure the entire stand almost had a heart attack. And Grant Imahara would most likely return, but the real question would be if his robot Deadblow would make a return. Fuck I was 6 when this happened why do I remember some of these names.
I hope they ban flippers. They're boring as hell to watch and stifle the creativity we saw before they came into prominence.
Sir Killalot better return.
I'm a bit confused, I used to watch Robot Wars all the time as a kid, is BattleBots the same thing? Some of you are mentioning robots from Robot Wars and I can't tell if people are getting them mixed up, or they were on both.
Chaos 2/ Tornado > everyone else [editline]7th February 2015[/editline]
I'm a bit confused, I used to watch Robot Wars all the time as a kid, is BattleBots the same thing? I have some of the Robot Wars DVD's, and I remember buying the toy version of Razor back in the day. God I loved that show so much, it was the best part of my weekend.
Robot Wars was amazing, my dad always let me watch it when it was still airing. Dead Metal and Shunt were my favorite house robots.

EDIT: Holy shit, I just remembered that I designed my own Robot! It was powered by my Hamster at the time (Sparks) and he had a little control room built inside the Robot (Called Sparker). It had a hatch that would release and then Sparks could crawl out of Sparker and chew on the other robots wires and shut them down. My Dad used to make up Bedtime stories for me about Sparker and how one day I'd be the bestest Roboteer ever. Good times, good times.
I hope they ban flippers. They're boring as hell to watch and stifle the creativity we saw before they came into prominence.
Wheelie Big Cheese flipping Sgtbash out of the arena was hilarious though!

I always felt robot wars was just who could get their opponent killed by the housebots first.
Bah so not Robot wars in the uk with Craig Charles..
I hope they ban flippers. They're boring as hell to watch and stifle the creativity we saw before they came into prominence.
This. Flippers are basicly the equivalent of Fox Only.
Sir Killalot better return.
If Robot Wars was to come back, they would have to make a Sir Killalot 2.0. I think most of the house robots where scrapped, apart from Matilda. So they might need to make 2.0's of all of them. Including and especially Matilda. [sp]Aside from Mr. Psycho and Growler, nobody cares about those two.[/sp] Like i said, if BattleBots was to have a successful return, i'd hope and imagine some people would be taking notes.
razor destroying matilda was one of my favourites

I always enjoyed watching minion in the super weight fights. I'd love to see it come back again.
Wheelie Big Cheese flipping Sgtbash out of the arena was hilarious though!
Once in a while they have their moments, sure. Still, they tend to stifle the creativity of robot designers, who all end up either building a flipper of their own or not doing well. It becomes a game of 'Oh you don't have a flipper? Hah sucks to be you'. I want to see more variety in the designs and I want to see more carnage. Spinners, hammers, pincers, flamethrowers, hell even ramming bots, they all tend to provide entertaining shows more often than they don't. Flippers...well, they're just OP.
I had a toy of the Snake, which I think was one of the weirdest design for a bot.
facepunch should totally create a robot, and send some people in call it postal
Arduino and innovation should never be in the same sentence
An affordable, open-sourced electronics platform with an incredibly large Do-It-Yourself community of hobbyists isn't making innovative ideas more accessible? Why would you even suggest that?
Typhoon 2, best bot.
