you just said that a blinded pilot would result in a crash unless you're implying that crashes are completely harmless to helicopters?
You should have said: no aircraft that can't be flown by a blind pilot deserves the adjective "military" [editline]1st July 2013[/editline] or: no aircraft that isn't immune to pilot error deserves the adjective "military"
you just said that a blinded pilot would result in a crash unless you're implying that crashes are completely harmless to helicopters?
Now I'm attempting to discern if you're saying pilots should be able to fly blind, or that helicopters should be immune to crashes.
You should have said: "no aircraft that can't be flown by a blind pilot deserves the adjective "military" [editline]1st July 2013[/editline] or: no aircraft that isn't immune to pilot error deserves the adjective "military"
you could kill a tank's crew with a handgun but you couldn't stop a tank with one - any vulnerability of the operator is a vulnerability of the vehicle i'm not sure that this helicopter was in any danger, sure they wouldn't have been able to see out of the windows but that's what instruments are for (i concede that real flight is hard like this but you can maintain a hover surely), unless the scatter from the beams was so intense that they prevented the pilots from even seeing the instruments.
if this had happened in america those lasers would have been on the end of rifles
Those lasers are only visible of you're wearing night vision goggles, and why would the military point rifles at their own chopper. I don't see the point of these posts.
Those lasers are only visible of you're wearing night vision goggles, and why would the military point rifles at their own chopper. I don't see the point of these posts.
they were civilians, not soldiers with night vision
yeah buhu poor pilot, but if you where a demonstrator you wouldn't want a fucking military helicopter above you
they were civilians, not soldiers with night vision
Yeah in this case, but you were talking about the US, and I don't see to many citizens here running around with green lasers on their rifles pointing them at helicopters. Which still leaves the other unanswered question of, what is the point of saying that?
lmao fuck da usa!!
I just remembered that a guy was sentenced to 2.5 years for aiming a laster pointer at a plane. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/03/steep-laser-pointer-sentence/
He's just making a joke about gun ownership in America, don't read too much into it.
I'd have thought it was a joke to if not for his other posts where he makes a bunch of odd assertions.
So much autism in one post
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_laser_applications Military, Firearms, look for IR laser sight. US military used them since they can't be seen by the name eye, requiring night vision to see them.
Hovering is not a very easy task, and it requires visual references. You can't hover blind, you would definitely start translating to the side or pitch forward, and not even realize it. I don't think people realize how bad lasers are for aircraft. Just one laser can wash out your entire windscreen's view.
90% of modern military heli's have a "hover" button.
90% of modern military heli's have a "hover" button.
As a military helicopter technician, I know that is a bunch of bullshit, especially considering that this is an Mi-8 we are talking about here.
You can buy lasers powerful enough to blind you permanently.
Especially cheap green lasers: They use frequency doubling from infra-red and if the IR filter is bad or missing they output much more energy than visible, which can easily damage the retina.
if you had a military helicopter above you then you shouldn't be a demonstrator
"oh no guys a military helicopter, time to go back to our oppressed lives" in this case isn't the military siding with the populace too or at least trying to not get them harmed? afaik they have given that ultimatum to the government or else they'd take over.
Stop posting plz.
Do you feel offended?
They're not actually lighting the helicopter up because they don't want it there, like some of you guys have said. The military are very much helping the protesters in Egypt right now. It's more likely just them celebrating and having fun pointing lasers at the helicopter. The helicopters flying above Tahrir are basically there to show that the military supports them. And while that shit is incredibly dangerous, it looks awesome as fuck.
Guessing they're lighting them up so the police(?) can actually see the helicopter that's helping them?
Guessing they're lighting them up so the police(?) can actually see the helicopter that's helping them?
I think it's more of a "Hey guys look, a helicopter! Awesome! Let's point lasers at it because it looks awesome" I mean as I said, the military has pretty much sided with the demonstrators, so I doubt they're worried about the helicopters flying above them.
90% of modern military heli's have a "hover" button.
Oh wow, guess piloting does not require much skill if you only have to push the "hover button". Damn :v: I have never heard such a dumb thing.
You can buy lasers powerful enough to blind you permanently.
100mW lasers can permanently blind you faster than you can blink or look away. 1000mW lasers can damage your eyes simply from looking at the dot they produce, from 2 meters away. Not only that, but laser Goggles simply do nothing when working at levels like that. They're rated up to about 2mW.
You can get shot for doing that in America.
Oh wow, guess piloting does not require much skill if you only have to push the "hover button". Damn :v: I have never heard such a dumb thing.
They do not have hover buttons.
Sarcasm is not your forte I guess.
