Woah, woah, woah!
ORIGINAL Xbox.
And because it's an original Xbox and I'm in Australia, it doesn't output video properly, good thing I didn't pay for it.

we had halo PC on the computers in primary school. played the fuck out of that
CE extinction
i still remember in like 3rd grade playing on dial-up with two of my friends ahahaha
I went ahead an installed the new exes and it runs nicely with the new graphic updates, has anyone been able to switch over to the new master server? I'm unable to find the file to change/process to do to be able to connect to the new Bungie server.
I had the idea of hosting a halo CE server in a previous itnn thread but nobody seemed interested, I have the hardware to run a high uptime 16 slot server if anybody is willing to do community management, would seem appropriate that I can start it off with patch 1.10.
RIP wish i could find a cheap halo 2 key

I'm interested as fuck.
- enable active camo on Nvidia (it will render like other cards now instead of just alpha blending)
Took them god damn 11 years.
Sooo, when exactly did halo go from the shitty generic console shooter (ie what cod is right now) to the most wanted pc game?
Frankly Halo 1 has always been a very good game. Probably best on Xbox but to be honest the PC port is not nearly as bad as people claimed it to be. Gearbox did a great job on it.
It's so ingrained in people's minds because it had a demo which while only one map brought a lot of people into online FPS gaming.
I'm interested as fuck.
I second this motion
I'll double my efforts on a better votemap since that benefits everybody

IF you did Custom Edition and hosted really good custom maps (and not just the popular ones) I'd play all the time
I remember Halo on the PC being my first experience with Halo. It was a pretty damn good port and a hell of a lot of fun.
I hope HAC2 gets updated to 1.10 soon, I need my FOV at 110 and my map downloader.
You know you're a genuine high quality company when you update your games 11+ years later.

map rotation would be based on community opinion, FP members obviously would get priority

Installing the server shit now, it seems liek 1.10 isnt out for CE yet though, so i may hold off on giving the info out till then

Server is up and ready to be open to wan the moment somebody steps up to be coadmin/community manager, I am going to bed
Good on Bungie
Brings back some seriously awesome memories.
My second longest single multiplayer match ever played in a videogame (roughly 4.5 hours) was in Halo PC on a bunch of computers in our basement. It was a LAN match of CTF on Death Island with a bunch of my friends vs my brother and a bunch of his friends. Goooood times.

What kind of hardware do you even need for this?
I'm assuming not an awful lot, in which case I could probably host shit too if people cared.

A vanilla server, not so much. You'd want at least 200 MB free for that, and anything you can buy in terms of processor power these days will deal with it. When you get into server apps, you need a bit of CPU power, and large custom maps will take more RAM.
It can be a bit taxing on network as multiplayer games are, but I can host ~8 people on my home connection with 120 ms pings, on something like 3.5 MB down and 500 KB up.
If you host a download server for clients like HAC2 and OS, you'll want to account for that too. This is particularly valuable if you're going to run the not-popular custom maps.

Is there a linux server available these days or is it still windows only? I ask because the mostly idle VPS I have at the moment is CENT 6, and I am not changing it.

Not by any means officially. There's some means of running it with wine which involves a lot of work and limited success.
[editline]11th May 2014[/editline]
Apparently it works better than it used to, but you'll still have a headache installing a server app I imagine. It also requires X for a gui, so there's that.
Well i guess i gotta find my halo key. I couldnt find it in my damn registry on my old hdd

Yeah never mind then.
Well i guess i gotta find my halo key. I couldnt find it in my damn registry on my old hdd
Halo doesn't store a useable form of the cd key anywhere on the system. Use Halo CD key recovery tool v2 to retrieve it. If there's a Halo entry in that registry then just import it into your main registery.
If you're like me and kept your Halo CD Key all these years, despite your CD getting destroyed, you're in luck.

You can legally download Halo CE from there, and use your key to install it. Afterwards, you can then use the patched .exe, linked in the article, to update and play with the new features.

Even better than that, when it's installed, you can just run haloupdate.exe from the game directory and it'll take care of everything.

Because the only pressing need for it came about recently?

Sssh, it brings back old feelings of feeling badass for overwriting files in game directories.
Moving on, there are only two servers in total in the server list currently. Hopefully that number shoots up.

Edit:
You probably aren't using a custom client, since there are few 1.09 servers. Downgrading to 1.00 became popular for some reason, it started with aimbots and pirates mostly. The older version didn't have restrictions on injecting things into the game. Even though it's irrelevant now, most servers report to 1.00 as a blanket measure so that everyone can play.
If you haven't you really should install OpenSauce or HAC2, they feature being able to join servers from either version plus raises the limits on rendering and have map downloading support.
I think 343n had a heart attack from reading this and died
No, i'm genuinely curios. Till a few years ago, people didn't even dare talk about halo on PC focused forums because it was 'the shitty console shooter of the time that wasn't as good as its pc counter parts'. But all of a sudden everybody is begging microsoft for halo games on pc and steam.
yeah people on FP used to bandwagon and dumbrate anybody who liked halo but most of us have come a long way since then
