This is so fucking badass, so happy that bungie still cares about this game.
One thing I do hope they fix though, is the missing shaders in the PC port. I with the PC port could look as good as the xbox version.
What missing shaders?
What missing shaders?
Some specular stuff on the AR, flagpole, Longsword, etc. are missing so those things look a little dull compared to the Xbox version.
Comparison photos pulled from the HaloMods thread:

Jesus that's impressive
Well that explains why the xbox version looked a bit cleaner looking at times. PC does look muddy when I compare it.
It was a pretty demanding game at the time (for the average PC) so Microsoft made Gearbox make compromises like what you see above and 56k support.

Notice various shaders present that aren't in the shipped game.
There's still a fan-made patch floating around that's supposed to restore said shaders. I found it on an old HaloMods forum thread, but avast! threw up some malware warning while visiting it. The file itself appears to be clean though, so I can re-upload it to Dropbox or something.
Here it is. It's a patch file, so use HHT or something else capable of patching Halo's bitmaps file.
The download link isn't working for me.
if they could remove the animation cap of 30fps and add a FOV slider THAT would make me play it again.
if they could remove the animation cap of 30fps and add a FOV slider THAT would make me play it again.
Wouldn't that require them to go in and redo all the animations?
It depends on how it's implemented in the engine, but ideally it'd play the animations exactly the same, just lerping between key frames when rendering.
30fps animations I am fine with, but would be nice to have them higher, and for FoV, use HAC2 or OpenSauce, they both have FoV settings

Not just that

The gif is a close recreation to the xbox one which is animated and turns red everytime you shoot it.
The gearbox version, below on the left is barely animated and doesnt turn red when shot.

this is just the tip of the iceberg
It'll probably be easier for them to sneak in limit increases to the engine so people like Kornman (OpenSauce dev) and other contributing developers can further develop at a much easier level than reverse engineering it from scratch.

Halo CE Anniversary on the 360 uses the PC version and Gearbox materials as its base, does it have these problems?
All of the graphical issues remain untouched in Anniversary, also considering the team responsible for CEA introduced alot more problems in their half-assed attempt at bringing it to modern standards.
You could say that Anniversary did the same gig and mistakes to Halo as Fakefactory did to Half-Life 2

I always thought the xbox version looked better but I thought I was imagining things. Apart from the camouflage which was dead obvious, I spent ages trying to get that to look right (hoping it would also fix the other missing shaders), I managed to get the camo back by messing with the directx settings as far as I remember, not that it matters now with this patch.
Fun times playing this on the xbox, my favorite xbox game I think

Don't try it on Custom Edition, though, it doesn't work.
i'm surprised at how active this game still is, there are 2000+ people online rn
i'm surprised at how active this game still is, there are 2000+ people online rn
I'm not surprised, out of the Halo games that are on PC, there's only the first two, Halo 2 doesn't have as good modding support (doesn't have custom edition like the 1st one), and has that stupid games for windows shit, which leaves PC users with only one Halo game to play, so of course it's gonna have plenty of people

here's your FOV slider, it also lets you move the FP arms around to your liking and adds a bunch of new shader support (for OS-supporting custom maps and the CMT mods whenever that comes out)

It's still being actively worked on, last I heard (two days ago) so a 1.10 update should be soon
found my key and downloaded the ISO, installed base game and downloading custom edition again for the first time in years <3

Oh hey, I was working on that on Halomaps.org ages ago, not many people actually showed interest in it so I stopped--and it was a sketchy work around for not having the original shader that was used on the xbox. Last I talked to Scythe about the shader_transparent_generic stuff he said most of the underlying information was cut, so to get anything like that back again would require an entirely new shader :<
All I ended up doing was using a frame by frame sequence strip and functions to snap to each "frame", there was a bit of math to do in calculating the scaling of the super long strip bitmap to fit the original uv's and then snapping to each individual frame. In the end though, I kinda gave up more-so for the fact that you can't really interpolate into the damaged shader very smoothly and the increasingly large bitmap files were unwieldy (2-5mb textures :C)
The port is more broken than the average person realizes, Gearbox cut back on a ton of stuff lazily and opted for poopy work-arounds for low-end pc's at the time.
Actually tried to do this hacky method with anything that used the original shader, which worked better with objects that didnt have damaged animations.

I am glad to see some publishers see games typically have a long-life is they were good, well built games, shame EA has not caught onto this.

Hi there = )
Do you still have that Covenant Dropship shield mask.bitmap, shield mask border.bitmap and dropshield tractor beam.shader_transparent_chicago_extended in your storage device ?
I went to the halomaps.org and you have uploaded them to Mediafire link, but that link is broken =/
Could you upload it please =?

He was probably googling around for something and can't find it anywhere and he's asking the creator to re-upload his work
Cut him some slack
