The logo was originally revealed through a mock-up based on a description of the logo from someone within MS
But it's since been officially released and is almost exactly the same as the mock-up
Anyone remember this?

(Windows 1.0 & 2.0)
It honestly looks like the header for a museum or a library.
Since they removed all the colors and made it blue, what'll happen to the Windows Azure logo?

Yet another reason to re-add the colors.

It looks cold, unfriendly, and it looks like all the life has been sucked out of it, not dissimilar to a hospital after a patient has died.
Metro design? Are they going to make Windows 8 all fabulous?
They only do this so they can add colors to the Windows 9 logo.
And then everyone will love it.
And the cycle continues.
The fact that the window is shown with some kind of perspective while the text is flat will really annoy me every time I see the two together
microsoft you've done it again!
"I like the logo," he notes. "Or at least I don’t dislike it."
What a fucking hack
'I like XYZ
that is to say, it is so mind numbingly bland I feel nothing
just like my life.'
I thought that plain blue logo was just for the consumer preview, and that they were going to use a full colored logo for the final release.

When you say "again," are you referring to:

everything about that OS is "again"
Reposting from Panda's post, W8's logo would look perfect with this colour set

Is it just me or does this look just like some logo Google would come up with?

Though that logo has a reason for being blue. Blue like the sky. The sky has clouds. Windows Azure is cloud platform.

They literally can't afford to do that, tablets and Macs are killing PC's.
Pffsht... I don't like anything that isn't exactly like the previous.

That first apple logo looks p.cool.

Yeah tablets are killing PCs.
If you're a tool who thinks they can actually replace a desktop computer. Stop being so over-sensationalist about every-fucking-thing. Christ. Tablets are not a threat to desktop computers, they won't be for years.
I'm actually kind of looking forward to the day they do, in a way. I'm hoping you'll still have your desk, and a spot to dock your tablet to make it behave as a traditional desktop PC.

A tool to who? And sales figures show they are killing PC's...
And MS needs to reestablish their OS is good enough, people are avoiding Windows laptops like the plague.
[editline]18th February 2012[/editline]
Even one of their financial advisers said they can't have another Vista.
[B] people are avoiding Windows laptops like the plague.
The only laptops people avoid around here are those with Vista.
Many shops have been forced to manually downgrade the shittier one's to XP in order to sell them, and upgrade the decent one's to 7.
Even my granny knows Vista is a heap of shit yet the rest is still decent (though XP is due for retirement)
I have no idea what you guys mean by "metro style"
could some one care to explain?
The company wanted the logo to be both modern and classic.
That makes no sense.
And sales figures show they are killing PC's...
Probably something to do with the fact they are going through the "fad" phase, where everybody is looking at them because they are being pushed. They are more portable, and for the everyday user, easier to get simple shit done?
No it can't be that surely. I mean, that's far too logical!
The desktop computer won't die soon, sales figures don't mean much, you have to remember that the desktop has been around for years, a lot of people have them already and don't need a new one, where tablets on picked up speed recently, not a lot of people have them, and are now buying into them.
I don't see people around here avoiding Windows laptops at all, though being at a University I tend to see more Macbooks around because the "amazing" student discount (it's shit) we are offered. But most people still have Windows based laptops because they are actually cost effective and work. People aren't scared of Windows, MS don't need to re-establish something that everybody knows and can use.

Vista isn't bad at all. Stop being stupid. It was only bad on release because most imbeciles who installed it didn't notice that their PCs might be a bit too shit for it. The Service Packs then fixed almost every other problem.
no shit windows your GUI is fine, fix the underlying OS
I hope tablets don't become the norm. I like the idea of taking apart a desktop PC, assembling it from your own parts... that doesn't seem like something you can do so well with a tablet.

It's not like you won't still be able to do that even if it became the norm.

You're posting this on what I am guessing is either a Android phone or Android tablet.

I like being able to swap out components and run things that require more power than, say, word
