• BBC gets 2,000 complaints over its "mind-numbingly tedious" Jubilee coverage

ITV's coverage was actually pretty good, the BBC is usually pretty boring
Did anyone in the UK see the TV stations talking about the Tiananmen Square anniversary two days ago, or the 68th D-Day anniversary today? I didn't. It was just nothing but the Jubilee, like it has been for the past few days.
They aren't "important" anniversaries though...
Well it's kind of hard to spice up boats going down a river in the rain. It would have been better if all the other stuff they'd planned hadn't been cancelled.
They should make it some sort of parade with loud music and hot chicks...
To be honest, I didn't watch any of it.
There was a lot of stuff, but no volume. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't sat for the four and a half hour river pageant. I just watched the boats when I drifted through the Lounge and it looked spectacular.
It would have been better if the BBC had been a bit more consistent, I didn't really notice the dunkirk boats, they just kept showing the rowers all the time.
I've never heard of a "diamond jubilee" before this.
that's because queen victoria was the last one to have one
You know, I also thought their coverage of the wedding was also tedious. I mean, that's fine and all, what I hate is that my teacher made us watch it. I get that it is a historical event, but seriously, I live in the states, I don't fucking care. I just don't. I know there are people who do, but nobody in my class wanted to watch it so don't make us fucking watch it!
Not even Michael Bay could have made it fun to watch
meh i dunno, footage of the Jubilee getting blown the fuck up in a bright orange explosion covered in blue anamorphic lens flares filmed through a cyan-and-yellow filter would be pretty entertaining to watch
I've never heard of a "diamond jubilee" before this.
Prolly because the only other British monarch to ever have one was Queen Victoria, and I can't recall there being other equally long-reigning monarchs in other countries.
that's because queen victoria was the last one to have one
The first and only until this years.
They could have spiced it up by saying something like "The crews of five random boats will be locked up in the Tower of London for old times' sake."
I had to reread that again because I didn't even see what was going on. Everyone I know just calls her the Queen none of that fancy shit.
Apparently His/Her Royal Highness is used for Princes and shit but the Queen is Her Majesty [editline]7th June 2012[/editline] I hope the Queen lives until September 2015 so she can overtake Victoria and become the longest reigning British monarch ever
To be honest I enjoyed Charles' tribute to the Queen more than I did the actual Diamond Jubilee. If you're in the UK then you should watch it on iPlayer.
Reminds me from this scene on the daily show:
I love charlie brookers idea of having a counter complaint system, so people that complain about stupid shit because they have nothing to do can't just get stuff taken off air. Not that i didn't think it was tedious.
ITV's coverage was pretty good, it had the stuff going on on one side of the screen, while on the other they were talking about interesting stuff with guests, then when something actually happened, they'd cut to that full screen BBC has always been boring tbh, always taking things too seriously and formally
I feel a part of something since one of those complaints was mine, and seven others were a few friends. :downs:

For example, they're bound by law to offer a balanced political view during election time, whereas ITV can do what it likes.
Canada made a big deal out of it for some reason
Probably because she's our Queen?
"Nobody explained what Dunkirk was and nobody explained that what these boats did was extraordinary."
I would hope that you wouldn't have to explain it to your average English citizen.

[editline]7th June 2012[/editline]
I would hope that you wouldn't have to explain it to your average English citizen.
They were not even shown or mentioned. They were supposedly taking a major part, the BBC should have covered them a bit more. They could have easily used it as an opportunity to spice up the coverage, nothing like a good war story or two and some video footage to keep people entertained.
Over 10 million viewers 2000 complaints Anything else happen today?
