I'm glad America won't be number one anymore, but I'm not glad that China will surpass us. I'd rather see American supremacy than the authoritarian Chinese supremacy.
I'd rather have America stay #1 only if we use our #1 status for good, not for greedy interests. But until policy makers get their heads out of their asses, that won't happen.
ya and britain also continued its own brand of slavery all the way to the second world war
ya and America still uses slavery in its prison system. 2.3 million Americans are locked up and they produce 100% of all American military helmets, ammunition belts, bullet proof vests, ID tags etc, 93% of domestically used paints, 36% of home appliances, 21% of office furniture. This industry out competes Mexican factories who simply can't work for under 25 cents a hour. American prison systems are businesses and more or less a slave trade, especially with the retarded law system '3 strikes and you're out' (a guy getting 26 years for stealing 4 chocolate chip cookies).
The thing about this though is America bans goods made by slaves or in sweat shops.
And yes, if you look by definition this would class as slavery - 'A condition compared to that of a slave in respect of exhausting labor or restricted freedom'
Glenn Beck oh jesus save us all
why did you get rid of beck fox why! now we're all doomed

Not that I have anything against black people I just don't like coming home to a missing TV

Its like you actually think I'm going to take you seriously after saying Glenn Beck will save America and damned Fox News for removing him.
Unless you were joking, which is okay.

Slavery isn't just naked people tied in chains and whipped to work.
Slavery isn't just naked people tied in chains and whipped to work.
slavery also isn't getting paid to do a job while getting to sleep in a cozy bed, watch TV, and learn after you kill a person, oh and having the tax payer money pay for it

Your system works on a 3 strike system, so if you get to the third strike you will get a life sentence (25+ years or more) no matter how trivial the offence was. One guy got 26 years for stealing 4 chocolate chip cookies and now he's forced to make American consumer or military goods. You can go to prison for having cannabis on you, its silly.
Oh and how can you even make prison sound remotely 'cosy' that's retarded. Prison is fucking hell.
Looks like Bush spent too much money on Iraq!
This has nothing to do with the downfall of the American Empire.

i don't know where you're getting your information from but i suggest you find a new source
the 3 strike system only counts for felonies, serious offenses; rape, murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, etc

robbery is considered a serious felony, my example (which is actually a real person) was charged for robbery by taking 4 biscuits.

no it's not, they get access to libraries, televisions, a warm bed, workout rooms, courts, etc
they can write books and even study and get majors
and all from the tax-payer's money
does that sound like hell to you?

You have never looked into the prison system have you? There was a interesting thread on it a while ago, about a guy who served a sentence in prison, might enlighten you a little on the situation.

do you even live in America?
i'm planning on majoring in criminal justice, i've taken multiple classes, i've visited prisons, and i've heard first hand stories from guards and inmates
if you're taking your source from some random guy on Facepunch that posted a thread claiming he was in prison then you need to find new sources
you know absolutely nothing about the justice system

Application
The exact application of the three strikes laws varies considerably from state to state. Some states require all three felony convictions to be for violent crimes in order for the mandatory sentence to be pronounced, while others — most notably California — mandate the enhanced sentence for any third felony conviction so long as the first two felonies were deemed to be either "violent" or "serious," or both.
Yeah no, give some evidence that even happened, and even if it did it'd be purely anectdotal. Not every state even has this system but, as I just posted, it is meant for people with violent pasts and most only give the major sentence once you commit a third violent act. You make it sound like I could shoplift three times and get thrown away for life, which isn't the case at all.
Also you make it sound like they're being worked as slaves in jail, that's also incorrect; they're given the option of working, and hey what else are they going to do with their time while in jail?
Hey you know what actually matters?
quality of life

It was a thread about a 4chan guy that was in prison for 2 years, who said prison was generally an unpleasant place to be (really? Never would have guessed.)

I doubt China's economy matters when the citizens hate their government.

"California — the state punishes shoplifting and similar crimes involving under $400 in property as felony petty theft if the person who committed the crime has a prior conviction for any form of theft, including robbery or burglary. As a result, some defendants have been given sentences of 25 years to life in prison for such crimes as shoplifting golf clubs (Gary Ewing, previous strikes for burglary and robbery with a knife), or, along with a violent assault, a slice of pepperoni pizza from a group of children (Jerry Dewayne Williams, previous convictions for robbery and attempted robbery, sentence later reduced to six years)."

Oh hey I used that biased link you have there, and I did a little looking into myself for the "victims" that were unjustly wronged by the Three Strikes Law, you know what I found? The homeless man was later freed by a Los Angeles jury, and many of the others were arrested because they have a history of robbing people with weapons, violence against others, and breaking into places, don't you find it odd that a person, fully aware of their state's policy on crime, would continue to commit crimes with such a track record?
Oh and that guy that stole cookies from the restaurant? You didn't give the rest of the story;
The appeals court, in rejecting Weber's plea June 12, noted that he went to extraordinary means to enter the restaurant by slipping through a roof vent, and probably would have stolen more than sweets if not for a blaring burglar alarm.
You make it sound like he stole a pack of cookies off the shelf of some grocery store, he was actively trying to enter a building with the probable intent on stealing more then just food.
