What? Care to clarify what you mean?
A major power would be unable to launch a full-scale offensive on the mainland due to fears of nuclear response.
Similarly, and perhaps more momentously, China's military will eventually be larger than the U.S.'s, which will mean the U.S. will no longer be the most powerful country in the world. It's easier to have influence over other countries when you can speak softly and carry a big stick. Once China vaults past the US economically, it will have the wherewithal to carry an even bigger stick--unless the US wants to continue to bankrupt itself by outspending everyone else despite its smaller GDP. Adding to the change in fortunes is the fact that America's financial situation is vastly weaker than China's: We have a huge deficit and massive debts; China, meanwhile, funds our consumption (by lending us money) and runs a surplus. Over the next couple of decades, therefore, much of the US resources that might have gone into growth and infrastructure spending, will be used instead on interest payments, budget cuts, and social programs. This will likely make the US feel poorer, especially relative to the explosive growth in China. Regardless of when the exact date comes, in other words, we're headed for a new world order--one in which China, not America, will be the center of the world.
:tinfoil:
Who cares, anyone who didn't see it coming 20 years ago and is surprised now needs to be taken to the shed and shot. Almost anyone in almost any other country will outwork an American. America is all about Fatcatting and importing cheap shit made elsewhere by people who WILL do the work for less. America = Employees telling Employers what THEY want, not getting it, and the job getting outsourced. Unions, while in some cases are nice, are mostly greedy people sucking dry the hand that was feeding them. Then you got all the people living outside their means, a guy working at McDonalds buying his own home, 50+ thousand dollars of debt on Credit card Charges and those companies and banks just letting them do it America as it is isn't sustainable and the people are not willing to change, so it's been nice knowing you. And the people who did play by the rules, didn't cheat their way into some extra money from people who do need it and the people who did live inside their means are just going down with the ship, I hope they have their floaties, which by the way, say Made in China on them
honestly i've talked to a lot of economics professors about china and they've all painted woefully grim pictures about that shit, they tell me that the government effectively creates its own money out of thin air like we do but on a much larger scale and then gives it to people to create debts to it sooo i don't know
honestly i've talked to a lot of economics professors about china and they've all painted woefully grim pictures about that shit, they tell me that the government effectively creates its own money out of thin air like we do but on a much larger scale and then gives it to people to create debts to it sooo i don't know
There was a RAND study which estimated that about 250,000 government-owned/subsised firms weren't financially self sufficient, and the government fudges the numbers a bit on employment (or rather, the numbers are fudged by having three people a job that could be done by one person). [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] That said, the reason they aren't a problem at the moment is that China is an economic behemoth. But I'd hate to be around during a Chinese depression, that's for sure.
And then China gets minimum wage laws and inflation rises like crazy.
The US is still one of the best countries to live in. Unlike China.
I dunno, a lot of the bullshit like the health system and the "trickle down" economy are enough to keep me away. [editline]27th April 2011[/editline]
China is motherfucking poor for the average citizen. 40 cents per hour anyone? Didn't think so. We'll be stronger, just because they have a "bigger army" with their population, doesn't mean they have better military technology. We'll put a boot up your ass, it's the American way.
Finally. Stop making fun of my chopsticks or i'll burn your currency with my rmb :P
slavery and the commonwealth drove the british empire
reading the OP, pretty dubitable stuff but this post the British Empire effectively ended in World War 2, technically ending in the 1980's when we gave independence to the last of the colonies. We banned slavery in the Empire in 1833. If slavery drove the Empire, why did it last another century without it? in fact the period where we were at our largest was after we abolished slavery the empire was powered by 1. colonies 2. trade deals which often fucked over the colonies. 3. the largest navy in the world. 4. we had really good boats. I mean fuck me the Empire did some fucking horrifying shit, causing starvation in India that killed millions, but having a slavery powered empire was not part of the list.

Just like in most of the CURRENT world's third world countries slavery survives and thrives. Just under another name.
Abolished slavery, still doesn't mean that the workers were treated better than slaves.
Of course not. Working conditions were definitely horrible. However they were still not slaves.
Of course not. Working conditions were definitely horrible. However they were still not slaves.
By name only.
By name only.
And by definition.
So you live in China? no.
I've lived there for 2 years (Not continuously of course only when they've needed my dad for work.). That's why I'm posting in this thread, because I have had some experience with China that most of you haven't. I'm trying to show you an image that doesn't come from obviously fear-mongering biased western sources. But at the same time I don't deny that some does have a quite shitty life over there.
Noooooo. My country is losing a dick-measuring contest. What ever shall I do?
Not so much America Fuck Yeah huh? Good.
China's economy will be bigger than the U.S. economy by 2016
In other words, World War III starts in 2016. Better save up your bonuslives, people. You're going to need them.
And by definition.
Still didn't change their working conditions and the way they were treated. Sure they get paid and get free reign over their lives but they couldn't work for anyone else.
So how much longer until we have to know Chinese to use most of the content on the internet or get a good paying job?
China is pushing it's citizens to learn English, iirc [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] This is what happens when I don't refresh a page after going to sleep.. It gets four pages longer.
In your face. Edit: Unlike popular belief, US sucks balls even more than China.
Why do I have a feeling that most people posting 'Ya, fuck you America!' are all just kids on the 'We hate America' bandwagon...correct me if I am wrong. Anyways, I don't exactly believe this will be happening exactly as it's predicted. Sure, China's economy is getting better, but who says it won't fall again before or after 2016? Just saying, don't get your hopes up, as anything could happen in both ways. Not that I am supporting America fully, but I am not supporting either side as of now.
This is probably gonna be just like Japan's sudden hike in the 80's, Where its stronger for a few years, Then sinks back down.
Well, psychologically, it will mean that Americans will have to get used to the idea that they're not the biggest kid on the block anymore
But america will ALWAYS be the biggest kid :smug:

Rest are 1-10 percent minorities from different countries, mainly britain. It seems pretty unlikely that a "hate bandwagon" could form in a forum where the target are the vocal majority. Btw gunfox once said my IP comes from china so stfu in a similar discussion. I found that amusing because Im not anywhere near asia :v:

The normal population doesn't care to jump in and say "I love america", just the outspoken few who jump on the bandwagon end up being seen as the majority of speakers because they're the only ones who feel it's important enough to make a statement.

Also lets not forget the majority of people who claims that they want to move to someplace like Canada whenever something pops up in America that they think won't be fixed. Its a freakin bandwagon, doesn't matter if their American or not, they still want to say they are better than everyone else cause they are hating their own country in belief that it is really that bad.
You are right, it is horribly immature of me and everyone else to criticise america at all. I apologise.
You are right, it is horribly immature of me and everyone else to criticise america at all. You can criticise it for a good reason, but not for some stupid reason without even knowing what that reason is. Like some people around here...
