This is bullshit. I'm a fucking atheist and if someone told me I can't say "God bless you", "cause political correctness", I'd shove a bible up their ass.
Were they one of those people who say it after every sneeze instead of when you're done? If so, they got off easy.
I thought my school was dumb, but at least nothing like this happened. The most stupid thing was having to wear a sticky note over my shirt that had a bad word on it.
You're both deluded as fuck lol
That's one way to prove someone wrong, call them a deluded fuck without explaining yourself. The teacher could be an extremist christian by believing you shouldn't say stuff like that could be a curse or using God outside a church as it would be in vein, and she could be an atheist by thinking that that's pushing their religion on someone
Does this kind of shit only happen in the United States? Seriously.
Nah, a little kid in Canada died because the school kept his inhaler in a safe in the office, and when he had an asthma attack on the playground, they couldn't get it out there in time.
I refuse to believe this is real, especially with quotes like, "“It’s alright to defend God and it’s our constitutional right because we have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech," It's written like something that Fox News would drool over; something you'd find in a chain email.
You don't need to be in the pew every sunday to know that there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can't openly celebrate christmas or pray in school
What else would they say? Shut the fuck up, Bitch!
It happens
"High School Student Claims She Was Suspended For Saying ‘Bless You’ After Classmate Sneezed" Let's hear what the school has to say, lmao. You guys must be senile if you think she was actually suspended for that.
Does this kind of shit only happen in the United States? Seriously.
Yep, America does everything bigger. Food, vehicles, assholes...

From reading the article it sounds like the student started arguing with the teacher and it escalated from there. It's ridiculous she wasn't allowed to say 'bless you', but I don't think she got suspended for saying it.
Why do people get upset over a STUDENT making a religious comment in school. "Uhm we don't want to offend the scientologists so you should respect their beliefs and stop using trigger words like "God" and use "Alien Overlord" instead!!!" [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] To be fair though the girl is acting kind of stupid and trying to turn it into a religious war instead of saying "I was just trying to be polite".

Publicly funded schools should be abiding by the laws of the land. Also if a teacher is wrong, you should have the right to argue that they're wrong. You shouldn't be punished for it.
The girl’s parents were told by school leaders that their daughter shouted “bless you” across the room and that it was a classroom distraction.
I feel like it probably has more to do with this than any "political correctedness" issues, but between administrators looking to cover their asses and fundamentalists looking for reasons to feel persecuted I'm not surprised to see this article.
HORRIFIC
as an atheist "Bless you" is simply a standard for me. just kidding. Perfectly justified. the bible is wrong!!!!! Christians are just ignorant and following archaic rules written by murderous blood thirsty psychopath rapists! WORLD WOULD BE BETTER WITHOUT THEM ANYWAYS [sp]seriously though I'm really confused[/sp]

Personally I never say it and I think it's weird that so many people unquestioningly follow this dumb social convention (that began because of a middle age belief that when you sneezed your heart stopped until you were blessed? What????) but suspending someone over it? Jesus.
I say bless you to be nice, I do not say it for any religious reasons.
was this liberal Muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor teaching a class on Karl Marx?
Just another day in the terrible US public schooling system.
Does this kind of shit only happen in the United States? Seriously.
Doubt it.
It's always actually seemed weird to me why other people sort for have to pseudo-apologize for another person sneezing. We don't do it for coughing or burping or farting. In fact, the perpetrator usually says "excuse me" in those cases. Why don't you also have to apologize for sneezing all over the place? It's just one of those odd little cultural factoids. In any case, the term hold no important religious connotations anymore and I even end up saying it out of habit before I even think of it most of the time.
the war on religion in america continues under barry's reign...
what's next? obongo declaring himself king of america and making all the educated white folk slaves?!
Would a just said "Sorry meant to say, god bless you" then gone back to my work and let the teacher stew [editline]21st August 2014[/editline]
It's always actually seemed weird to me why other people sort for have to pseudo-apologize for another person sneezing. I always used think it was something foreign since I heard it as "blegh shoe".
These schools are getting more and more stupid as the years go by.
You're both deluded as fuck lol
What? I've known some people who take that shit deathly serious, to the point where I've been taken aside and yelled at. And I'm quick to point out that these aren't clergymen I'm talking about here, these are regular people who believe that the merest reference to God's name in a non-worship situation somehow makes it less special and therefore blasphemous. Admittedly, now that I've reread the article, I see my mistake.
Will they associate you with Nazi Germany if you say Gesundheit or something, holy hell, shit school
a sneeze does actually sound like "ACHTUNG!" anyway. so maybe this is all very reasonable.
Here where I live (Texas) it can be the entire other way around. I watch my language so I don't piss off any of the more religious teachers by saying non-Christian things.
In my junior history class, we'd sometimes have a preacher come in as a substitute (our teacher was a coach so he was gone a lot) and he'd spend the entire period going on about abortion (its a fucking history class) and about how it murders innocent babies and how the government is trying to take our jesus away from us etc etc its a public school so im pretty sure it was illegal as fuck considering every single time hed just go on about christianity and abortion and the evil government
