Here where I live (Texas) it can be the entire other way around. I watch my language so I don't piss off any of the more religious teachers by saying non-Christian things.
i don't, i say what the fuck i want and don't give a damn, They can say whatever they want around me and i am fine, unless they're going to throw religous views down my throat and tell me i have to follow gods rule. that is the kind of crap that pisses me off.
It's always actually seemed weird to me why other people sort for have to pseudo-apologize for another person sneezing. We don't do it for coughing or burping or farting. In fact, the perpetrator usually says "excuse me" in those cases. Why don't you also have to apologize for sneezing all over the place? It's just one of those odd little cultural factoids.
In any case, the term hold no important religious connotations anymore and I even end up saying it out of habit before I even think of it most of the time.
Imagine if we were supposed to say, "May you always be regular!" or something whenever we hear a plop in a nearby bathroom stall.
In my junior history class, we'd sometimes have a preacher come in as a substitute (our teacher was a coach so he was gone a lot) and he'd spend the entire period going on about abortion (its a fucking history class) and about how it murders innocent babies and how the government is trying to take our jesus away from us etc etc
its a public school so im pretty sure it was illegal as fuck considering every single time hed just go on about christianity and abortion and the evil government
I forget how good we have it here sometimes. All the christian teachers do here is teach about forgiveness and life lessons, and none of that adam and eva bullshit they so happily brainwash people with down in the states.
Seriously, mine was a christian teacher who did nothing but talk about battlestar galactica and metal concerts, and would ever so often speak a bit of how rediculously contradicting the bible is as a good example of lunacy :v:

Where the fuck were they when I was in school?

When teaching the big bang theory in GCSE science my atheist teacher said she was required to apologize in advance in case she offended anyone who was religious. She then has to briefly go through creationism (in physics!) and is of course not required to apologize to anyone then.
The interaction between religion and education is odd.

Hey now no need for generalizations. I went to a private Christian school and we had a lot of the same. Hell there's another FPer from the same school who was blatantly and openly atheist and most teachers loved him and gave him the floor to debate.
What else would they say?
Religion teachers are such a mixed bag. 75% of my high school theology classes were taught by a very congenial man (think Chris Traeger from Parks and Rec), but he was very set in stone that "This is what was said in the bible, this is how you need to live." The theology teacher I had my senior year, on the other hand, was a brilliant guy all around. He was very into the historical aspects of religions and one of his big tenets for the year was you can disagree with the bible and it wasn't wrong.

There's no evidence of a supposed god.

Hahahaha
This can't be real
I refuse to believe this is real
Her punishment should have been more severe. Next thing you know she'll try to keep in god we trust on our money and as a euphoric American citizen who has to deal with this kind of discrimination time and time again I say it's time to rise up.
I always used think it was something foreign since I heard it as "blegh shoe".
if you think about it, it's also kinda what a sneeze sounds like
"blegHH SHOOOO"
this is kind of a dumb story.
When she defended her actions, the teacher told Turner to see an administrator. The student said that she had to finish the class period in in-school suspension.
The girl’s parents were told by school leaders that their daughter shouted “bless you” across the room and that it was a classroom distraction
she spent like 30 minutes in ISS, it wasn't like she was kicked out of school for days. this is the teacher's fault, not the school's:
"There were several students that were talking about this particular faculty member there that was very demeaning to them in regard to their faith," Winegardner told WMC. "This was something that had come up previously in the last few weeks just since the beginning of school and I shared with all of those students what their rights were."
WMC reported that there are other expressions that are banned as part of class rules and they are listed on the teacher’s white board along with "bless you."
the teacher made a dumb rule and the student made it worse by responding with her pocket constitution™
“She said that we’re not going to have godly speaking in her class and that’s when I said we have a constitutional right,” Turner told WMC.
When she defended her actions, the teacher told Turner to see an administrator. The student said that she had to finish the class period in in-school suspension.
there's no indication that the parents went to the school, first; it seems like they went directly to the media to report on the next atrocity in the "war on christianity" in america.
If the girl was sent to see the administration and they gave the punishment, then it isn't just the teacher involved.
If the girl was sent to see the administration and they gave the punishment, then it isn't just the teacher involved.
she was punished on a basis of class disruption, not religion, and the punishment was nowhere near severe.
on the school's part, this is just bureaucratic incompetence, not anti-religious malignance.
i always thought it was blesh you until 7th grade.
"High School Student Claims She Was Suspended For Saying ‘Bless You’ After Classmate Sneezed"
Let's hear what the school has to say, lmao. You guys must be senile if you think she was actually suspended for that.
I dunno man, on the one hand the version of events given sounds just like one of those "if u cant c god or touch god den is no god? IF I CANT SEE UR BRAIN OR TOUCH UR BRAIN THEN YOU DONT HAFF A BRAIN- 1 like = 1 pray" posts that fly around Facebook every once in a while, but on the other hand schools have sent kids home for far stupider reasons than this, remember the waffle gun shit?

We gotta stop them queerosexuals, man! Just ain't right in the name of the lord!
I have said "bless you" no less than 30 times in the past 3 days of school.
Lmao that teacher is fucked in the head
