Scientists start drilling into the Indian Ocean floor in bid to get our first ever sample of the Ear

Is the ocean floor really the best place to start drilling? Why not dry land? It just seems like theres a whole lot of unnecessary water. Unless of course it's being used as a cooling agent on the drill, in which case it makes sense.

No, our core has a lot more radioactive material than mars, the magnetic field is only because we have a molten core

They are drilling closest to the mantle as they can, the continents provide a great dry place but are like starting out from the top of Everest

Yes. Continental crust is less dense than ocean crust and it's also a lot thicker. The crust is thinner at the ocean
