I know howe you guys feel.
My iPod 4G is now getting dropped by app developers.
It's bullshit because usually apps still support iPhone 4.

The iPod touch 4G has 256MB of RAM, the iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM. That's why they dropped support.

Oh, that makes sense.
iOS5 jailbroken says hello from my iPod touch 3G
well, it would if it didn't turn off one day and then never turn on again :v:
I wonder if they can just drop the entire chinese shit if they have received the money.
I can seriously not trust these guys at the moment even after they said they dropped the chinese app till further notice (while it seems to still send iPhone information to this dead server).

I've been running 5.1.1 on my iPhone 4 for nearly a year, though now I'm going to upgrade to 6.1.3 as there's a jailbreak for it and I have my SHSH blobs.

5.1.1 Had the old youtube app, and in my opinion it's better, no adverts, and lockscreen playback capabilities
Whatever you do, don't get iOS 7, it sucks hard on the iPhone 4

I was jailbroken on iOS 7 yesterday but it was so slow + all the rumours about the data leak, so I went back to 5.1.1, but with the release of a 6.1.3 jailbreak I want to upgrade. You can find the old YouTube app on Cydia for iOS 6 anyway.

iOS 7 is pretty bad on the iPhone 4, but I don't think it deserves all the flack it gets, the feature set is improved and it is more usable than my last android phone.

You must of had a pretty sucky previous phone
Yea OS 7 slowed down my iphone 4 greatly

Yep, I've had pretty bad experiences with Android devices, I've been thinking about picking up a Nexus 5 for dev, I'm interested in how that'll go.

By the sounds of it, you were using some budget phone. Flagship devices are worth every penny where Google itself is concerned.

I was using a mid-range phone at its end-of-life, so yeah, basically a budget phone. ARMv6 woopwoop.

It's okay, I still have my iPod touch 2G. I rarely use it now.
If I could have an infinite supply of iPod touch 2g/3g's I would be content
best iPod IMO

Okay, here's everything I know regarding the "controversy". I'll try and keep speculation to a minimum.
Evad3rs released this out of the blue, because they felt that they were pressured into a race by Saurik working on the 'Open Source Jailbreak' (Which Saurik himself said was just a bit of fun) as well as Geohot working independently as he typically does. Evad3rs must have caught wind that one of the parties was closer to a release than anyone had expected and made a Beyonce release.
Saurik, the maintainer of the Cydia App Store, was not involved with the process of this release which is not usual and thus MobileSubstrate, Cydia and other related SIT tweaks haven't been properly updated. This is especially a problem for iPhone5S users as tweaks need to be properly compiled on a Mac to make use of the ARM64 architecture. Saurik did attempt to provide the Evad3rs with an early build of MobileSubstrate, for reasons I'm yet to learn, the dev team did not use this build to iron out compatibility issues.
It would appear that Saurik, and other 'prolific' developers (EG: Comex, Chpwn, David Ashman, Ryan Petrich, etc) were not given an early build of the jailbreak, due to this Chinese App Store called 'TaiG' (which is SUPPOSED to be a Cydia like alternative for Chinese users) which the Evad3rs must have felt would be hugely frowned upon and I suspect, would have cost them a bucket load of time in damage control, time which would have been better spent fixing the JB for the general population. Due to the unexpected release (as well as a couple of other reasons such as how ungrateful JB users can be), many of these prolific developers state that they're rapidly losing interest in the Jailbreak scene.
TaiG had a high dollar amount contract written up between a Chinese company and the Evad3rs. One clause in this contract was NO PIRACY. (Every Jailbreak developer that I know of hates piracy because it affects them far more than a games company that goes through a publisher. So to say that the Evad3rs deliberately put a 'Pirate App Store' in is stupid!) Once reports got out that TaiG had a plethora of pirated App Store apps, the TaiG installation was disabled remotely by the Evade3rs pending a further investigation.
As it stands, Evad3rs claim that TaiG is ONLY installed if a user has their iPhone language set to Chinese and even then it would appear that you have the option of not installing it and going with Cydia instead. From what I've read from 'official sources' (IE: Not people speculating), it only when TaiG is installed on your device that any data is sent back to some random server. Evad3rs have stated that it would be futile putting anything malicious into a jailbreak, because of how independent security researchers heavily scrutinise jailbreak releases.
TL;DR:
1. Jailbreak was released out of blue due to perceived competition with Saurik and Geohot
2. No JB developers got an early release, so almost /nothing/ is compatible yet. This severely rubbed many of the JB devs the wrong way.
3. TaiG is an App Store only bundled if a user is using Chinese as a language on their phone
4. TaiG was disabled remotely by Evad3rs due to breaching contract by having many pirated apps available
5. Nothing malicious is installed on your device, lest everyone would truly know about it due to outcry

Ugh, why. I hate it when people try to do things "first" to get the attention first, this just results in a rushed, bad quality release. Just because they're first doesn't make it any better.

They all use the majority of same exploits. Once the exploit is in the wild, it's burned forever.

I've always used redsn0w to jailbreak and I think I'd prefer it to stay that way.

They did it for money, and they may have fuck over future jailbreaks because they didnt wait till apple released 7.1 and this gives apple the time to fix up the exploits.

Redsn0w and Evasi0n are just front end clients. How they achieve the actual jailbreak is the exploit - and once that's out, Apple patches it in the next update. Because they're assholes. (There are legit reasons why, but nah, they're assholes)

I haven't jailbroken anything since ios 4.2, how do I get rid of all of my old jailbreak stuff and get this version? Do I just restore on iTunes?
DFU restore latest ipsw with iTunes
but now is a really shit time to do it
ideally you'll want to update your device to 7.0.4 now because when 7.1 arrives jailbreaks may be impossible for a while again but don't actually jailbreak yet because this is not ready for prime time
How's iOS7 on the 4s?
How's iOS7 on the 4s?
Little lag from my experience with it. The fancy space wallpaper isn't on the 4s, though.

Just restore it via iTunes, upgrade to 7.0.4, back it up via iCloud or whichever way you choose, then jailbreak it. But, I'd highly recommend not jailbreaking it until it's more reliable, and not a half finished product.

its not bad at all i have no issues with it
