what the problem? your already installed windows
I bet if this passes, Hiren's Boot CD will get updated with like 5 different programs dedicated to removing it
a proposal to legalize the use of malware in order to punish people believed to be copying illegally.
yeah, justice guys. guilty before proven innocent much?
Like Antivirus companies wouldn't block this shit.
Kaspersky definitely wouldn't give a fuck about demands from MPAA & friends.
They're also recommending legalizing actively attacking suspected networks.
Shit guys better put your computers in thick metal cases

that picture reminds me of how much I miss being able to pick up the latest edition of WWN in the checkout line at the supermarket

sure, the online version is good, but nothing matches the looks people gave you when they saw you with a newspaper reading "CHENEY IS A ROBOT"
yeah, justice guys. guilty before proven innocent much?
Yeah, how do they even determine if it's pirated content?
I bet there would be cases of the malware activating when the person downloads something legal such as a free trial or a demo of a game.
Plus other virus creators or whatever you call them would have a field day with this. They could probably activate this without downloading pirated content.

To this, Hollywood can easily be given the middle finger with the use of just one word: Linux.
Finally I have a reason to use my Mint install.
Well, If this passes, this would be my push to linux then.
Didn't Sony put a rootkit on a bunch of their music CDs a while ago that ended up causing a lot of peoples computers to get viruses?
Fuck Hollywood.

Yep. They are just begging to have history repeat itself.
Cyberspace and Space are the last frontiers of mankind.
You cannot tame either, nobody is supposed to own either.
The only thing both are supposed not to do is to be used in war.
Fuck off Hollywood. Im gonna rape you.
Plus, you know, the fact that film companies really shaft movie theatres too.
I worked at a theater for 6 years, most people have no idea how deep the shafting is by Hollywood. People bitch at high movie prices and concessions, well Hollywood gets 80-90% of the ticket sale, plus whatever state sales tax on top of that. If a movie ticket is $9.00, the theater only gets a few cents on that.
Concessions are literally the only way the theater makes money, which is why the cost is so high. Yet you get meatheads who think they know everything starting fights because their outside food/drink isn't allowed.
Oh and for a theater to show a movie (like Iron Man for example) they have to bid on the print (despite it now being on a hard drive.) If they're outbid by another theater, tough luck and they'll have to wait weeks for another chance to get the print. So if they bid too high and the expected audience doesn't come, they lose money. They're also at the mercy of the movie booker. If the movie booker doesn't want your theater to have a certain movie, you won't have it and have no say in the matter.
I could go on for hours about the shit we had to put up with.
if this impossibly comes to pass, they would somehow have to get antivirus providers to whitelist them
which means actual virus makers will likely somehow reverse engineer this program and use the code to bypass antiviruses with their own ransomware
also these companies would get sued to oblivion in other countries
The infection would undoubtedly find its way inside non-US machines. That would sort of be a big issue
Sounds like a great idea. Lets give corporations the power to destroy our personal belongings because they think we downloaded a file. I also like in the report how they throw the occasional "individual" in there like these suggestions are for the people not just the corporate giants. Even though individuals are only mentioned 6 times in comparison to companies which are mentioned 40 or so times. I also like how individual is always placed after corporations. However it says only corporations should be allowed to rape your pc with malware. Suggestions also don't say anything about oversight if this were to be allowed. Also leave a lot of questions. Like the part about actually destroying computers etc. So is this like just through software or are some thugs gonna show up at my home and destroy my belongings? Also based on what evidence? Do they even need any?
I hate my government.

I'm not a fan of it either. I love how they are playing the victim card, as if they are in real danger of collapsing. Hopefully, nobody with any sort of common sense will let this go through. Of course, many politicians have no idea what they are doing when it comes to voting on computer related issues, or just want lods emone.
If they can hold my system hostage, I can hold their executives hostage.

Am I invunerable too?
Yeah, how do they even determine if it's pirated content?
This reminds me of someone's scheme that I think I saw on FP before: Rename a bunch of harmless files to appear to be pirated content, torrent them onto another computer, receive lawsuit papers, and then counter-sue on base of defamation of character.
Is something like that possible actually? :v:

I don't know. I'm sure the case would just be dropped on the basis that it wasn't actually the pirated content. Plus, they probably have better paid lawyers than you could ever possibly afford.
man thatd be fun to remove
Kind of want this to pass just to watch the fireworks

id feel sorry for any tech related business lets put it that way

Reminds me of a theater near me. Tickets are upward of $14, but the workers get paid minimum wage.

In theory, no that's not possible.
Pirated content can be identified the same way an unknown song on your hard drive is identified. So to mistake the fake for pirated content- would have to realistic in ways I'm sure I don't understand lol.
As for defamation- good luck. It varies by state but one thing is universal- it's damn near impossible to win. You would have to prove so many things such as willful intent and that actual damage occurred.

The fake would have to have the exact same signature as the assumed content....which would require it to be that content in the first place, provided you didn't forge it somehow.
Reminds me of a theater near me. Tickets are upward of $14, but the workers get paid minimum wage.
Theaters generally do whatever possible to keep overhead to a minimum. I started off as a projectionist and was for a bit over 3 years when they switched to digital and got rid of the projection position. When I moved to usher, I was "graciously" allowed to keep my +$0.15 over minimum wage (at the end it was $7.40 an hour.)
Projection in my experience it's the only job you'd ever want to work at a theater. As long as the movies started on time and there were no breakdowns, you'd be left alone for your entire shift, without having to deal with management. I usually brought my laptop and did some light gaming or read web articles.
But moving to usher was a hellish experience. Not only do you have to deal with shitty customers, and huge crowds of them (thousands on a heavily busy day), but you also have to deal with grossly incompetent management. Not to say that all customers were terrible (there were a handful of really nice regulars) and a couple of nice managers too, but the majority far outstripped the minority.
Oh and the final thing is that the entire building that was the theater was disgusting. I would go so far to call it hazardous to be in for any length of time. Every fabric surface was thoroughly packed full of every type of mold you can think of and every type of pollen you can think of. If you have allergies like myself, it was a nightmare. I went home after every shift covered head to toe in "theater ick" and felt horrible. Days off were usually spent sleeping because of allergy induced migraines.
Every seat in every theater was unsafe to sit in (they never get cleaned) and all of them have had at least had one of the following happen in them:
- Someone had sex on them
- Someone vomited on them
- Someone pissed in them
- Someone defecated on them
- Someone tried to commit suicide and bled all over them (not joking here)
- food and drink spills of all sorts and descriptions
Won't pass.
