The whole conspiracy that he is still alive is just plain stupid. Like cqbcat said, if they do release the photo they would get a load of people calling it fake still. People just like conspiracies for some reason.
They are worried about posting the photo because it would look like they are using it as a form of 'trophy' and would just aggravate Al Qaeda further
From what I've heard, and I don't know if it's true or not but, apparently in the Middle East when an enemy or someone they consider Evil/Bad dies, they like to see the body before it's buried or disposed of to make sure it's the right person. Or something like that. Don't know if it's true or not, but that's what I heard.

They could have easily said they killed him, making his followers (and everyone else) believe that he is dead, when they actually captured Osama and put him into hiding for questioning.
