It had nothing to do with what I had said. I was talking about unions. Tell me, where did I mention the government in that post?
ah, emperor scorpius. Here, let me explain in very clear words. Getting rid of the unions, a very useful and in many cases necessary sort of organization, because corruption exists within them, is no different than getting rid of, say, governments. A very useful and in many cases necessary sort of organization because corruption exists within them. geddit
Where the hell did I say, "GET RID OF DEM UNIONS!"? I didn't. I merely pointed out that they're are good ones and bad ones. The whole object of my post was to say that they aren't all unified in being "good" OR "bad". Read better.

All you posted was a strawman and there is a hell of a lot you can extrapolate from there.
All you posted was a strawman and there is a hell of a lot you can extrapolate from there.
Nope. It wasn't a straw man because I wasn't arguing with him, I was making a point. :eng101:
I wasn't expressly replying to what you said, but more to the sentiment that we have to get rid of unions.
I had just said a union saved my father's job, why would you think my sentiment was to get rid of unions?
I see this and my respect falls for the people that say it. Republicans think that they're elected to vote on things? What a bunch of nincompoops. Officials are elected to serve the people, which are exactly what the Dems are doing right now. People seem to forget the reason laws exist and look at the laws themselves.
So instead they collect their paychecks while refusing to show up to work. How does THAT serve the people that elected them? [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
Naw the first priority they had was defunding abortion.
Why should I pay for someone to get an abortion? They were raped? Fine, I'm willing to help them get on with their lives. But I don't believe (I say this as a pro choice person, btw) that I should have to fund some woman's abortion because she can't keep her legs closed.

[editline]22nd February 2011[/editline] And if they can't afford it they may try a back alley abortion, which could be fatal.
Well it's mostly for the women who can't afford an abortion.
Then tell their boyfriend to wear a condom? Holy shit! It's quick, easy, and costs less than the gas or taxi fare to the clinic!
read the second part of that post
Wasn't there when I quoted. But again. A condom is cheaper and safer than any of those other options.
Wasn't there when I quoted. But again. A condom is cheaper and safer than any of those other options.
Then I guess you'll pay for the boys and guys buying their condoms then.
Then tell their boyfriend to wear a condom? Holy shit! It's quick, easy, and costs less than the gas or taxi fare to the clinic!
If they can't afford an abortion, do you really think they afford to raise a child for the next 18 years? Realistically, that child would be receiving welfare. And aren't Republicans against welfare spending? So you can either leave the child to starve to death or you can like pay for their school lunches, food stamps, Medicaid, etc.
Then I guess you'll pay for the boys and guys buying their condoms then.
I'll stand on the corner and hand out hefty trash bags.
Wasn't there when I quoted. But again. A condom is cheaper and safer than any of those other options.
Yeah I know Point being accessible abortions save lives.

Can't feed em? Don't breed em.
If they can't afford either, then they can probably afford to buy a box of cheap ass rubbers at the 7-11. Can't feed em? Don't breed em.
So what do we do when they don't use a condom? Let them all starve to death?
So what do we do when they don't use a condom? Let them all starve to death?
If someone on the street decides to help them out, then more power to them. Good people. But mandating everybody submit to it is not right.
Ridge, just a note, but the money that was cut from Planned Parenthood doesn't go to abortions. All it goes to is the family planning side.
Ridge, just a note, but the money that was cut from Planned Parenthood doesn't go to abortions. All it goes to is the family planning side.
Exactly. And it's too bad those dumb motherfuckers in the House don't realize that.
You rather the state fire them because they can't afford them? The States can't print money like DC can.
They could if your dumb political party didn't get a hundred thousand people killed in some shitty third world country.

You shouldn't have to pay for a police department because some people are too stupid to get a normal job. See where I'm going with this, your logic is completely flawed. [editline]23rd February 2011[/editline] Also funding abortions would probably lessen the burden of more impoverished families on the state.
I'm not from America so I couldn't know that.
England is a sovereign nation and is ruled as an absolute monarchy. I'm not from the U.K. so I couldn't know any better. There is a thing called the Internet you know?
They could if your dumb political party didn't get a hundred thousand people killed in some shitty third world country.
Actually, no. States cannot produce their own paper money. Only coins, and there are precisely 3 mints in the country that can do that.
Actually, no. States cannot produce their own paper money. Only coins, and there are precisely 3 mints in the country that can do that.
States can't make money or coins. Period.
You rather the state fire them because they can't afford them? The States can't print money like DC can.
One of the most bizarre strawman arguments Conservatives use is this printing money thing. No one, no where has ever said printing more money will help the debt - nor are they actually doing this. Yet you con's keep fucking using it. This bewilders me.
You rather the state fire them because they can't afford them? The States can't print money like DC can.
How can I possibly take Glaber seriously.
I think a major issue with this topic is that many people (especially on this forum) aren't old enough or just plain don't know or don't belong to a union. Unions in theory are great, however, when you go in and actually look at some of the things that some of them do. Yes some, I am not going to generalize and say all even though it is more common than you think. I believe the USPS has a union as American Postal Workers Union. Which is great, unions can serve some great function and purpose. But when you look at it, the USPS has to have its OWN tow-trucks, OWN mechanics and several other things they handle within the department. That is fine and dandy, except they cost a lot more than having a third party handle all of these things. I am not anti-union, so please don't mistake me as coming off like that. But I do think that in our society right now, unions are doing quite a bit of harm just because they are too selfish. Another example of wasted union money. At an Indiana convention center, you may set up a booth and advertise or spread the word about a cause that you want or whatever the event is. If you bring anything electronic, you must call someone over FROM THE UNION to plug it in for you. It isn't that it is some high tech electrical circuit, it's just a regular outlet with a regular plug. Now, I understand there are some safety things that go along with this and that is probably why they wanted something like this. But paying some guy $20.00 an hour to plug things in? Bit excessive...
