He's saying you shouldn't just accept everything because someone somewhere has it worse
I was in the liverpool protest, my freind got a glass bottle thrown at his head.
How does one fight a cause but then end up hurting those protesting along side you?
Was at the Cambridge one, was rather civilised with votes and stuff. There was one moment of Violence when people were storming Kings College's doors and the police were blocking it, some guy stole one of the polices hats and aparently that was a signal to start batoning erryone in range, luckily I was literally one person out of range so I escaped unharmed. I also took a fuckton of video of the marches and I shall upload at some point. As well as me being all "Wow" for standing on Kings Colleges Grass (It's a big deal :saddowns:)
But no-o-o-o-o-o-o, there are people who don't know the alphabet out there! HOW DARE YOU WANT A FUTURE?! Be happy with your mediocre job! :downs:
I feel cheated. Students in my sixth form were planning to walk out. All was set up and planned when the head of the adjoining secondary school came and spoke to us in registration, said how the whole thing was disorganised and aimed at current uni students and left. the next day no one wanted to do it.
So today I find out everything he told us was untrue and students in our and surrounding counties had walked out. I'll be finding it hard to trust anything I'm told by him now.
Yeah I just got back from the Brighton and Hove protest, people calmed down a bit once police with dogs turned up.
Wait, they turned up with dogs at the Poundland incident? :ohdear: I only saw the Police getting their batons and shields ready...
I was going to go to the Liverpool one but I realized two things, going would mean I lose out of a days worth of education and EMA which defeats the purpose of protesting for higher education, Secondly, Whining to our city council won't do much good.. Then when I get back from lunch all our teachers had left to protest so I had no choice but to go home. What a day. :sigh:
They're a bunch of muppets; being totally fair - EMA isn't even worth getting. It's just an excuse for dirty chavs to waste away on stella artois courtesy of England.
They all need to get a job.
"They're stopping us getting education!!!" - What, that £30 is your life?
Inbreds.

I think you're an idiot.
Did anyone else go to the Cambridge one?

My mum earns less than £14,000 so without EMA I wouldn't have been able to afford to travel to and eat / drink at college, so are you saying I don't deserve an education because my family isn't rich enough?

As in the quote, what prevents you from getting a job?
As in the quote, what prevents you from getting a job?
The fact that there aren't any.
EMA is useless. You'd be better off learning a programming language and making some money that way.
The fact that there aren't any.
I'm at college on my second year and have had a saturday job for that time, two months ago I decided I wanted more hours so I GOT OFF MY ARSE and went looking for jobs. I found 3 places offering 17 hours and accepted one that suited me.
There's plenty of jobs going, you're just bone idol.
As in the quote, what prevents you from getting a job?
I have a job now thanks to the college course, and now I'm paying taxes, so I'm paying it all back
EMA is great for certain people, but the fuckers that have jobs as well as getting EMA should go fuck themselves.
In Manchester, a few of my friends protested. I didn't join in because my college is far from the city centre.
God I wish the US had no fees on college.
EMA isn't useless, but it really pisses me off that there are people constantly whining on facebook that they have to go to school to get EMA, and go to all of their lessons. And every weekend complain that they spent all their money.
I go to school every day and attend all of my lessons, and don't get any money for it (I think I'm eligible for EMA but I can't see myself needing it as I don't need money for transport or stationary), and even though I don't have any income, I spend so little that I always have a fair amount on hand.
I just don't get these people's mentality.

It pays for their fags, black ops, probably a McDonalds and a milkybar. £120 a month is more than some adults have spare money after bills - RIDICULOUS. Their mentality is that they're lazy and want free stuff.

Aha, no. I need that money to buy lunches and bus fair. College is way too far for me to walk (I have to get at least two buses to get there on most days). By the end of the week I have about a fiver left. I also have loads of friends who live far away, and get a train to college, and without EMA, wouldn't be able to attend college.

haha holy shit are you seriously saying this. Most people actually need their EMA.

Stop complaining, since you said it was so easy to get a job they'll have no problem working from age 18 - 65 and I'm sure by then they'll have paid the state back
Yes I am saying this. And in response to both above posts;
Just get a job?
It'd help if you provide some factual points as to why you NEED EMA over a job.

Because it totally makes sense to be in FULL TIME education a college which is generally FAR AWAY from a persons house, and just ditch it for a job.
Out of all the shops they choose the cheapest one
they are students remember
Yeah okay, so here we have mr Joe Bloggs.
Joe is very bright, and wants to use his talents to get a bright, well paid future. He comes from a family that earns 22,000 per year, not exactly rolling in cash.
If Joe goes to university, he will end up having to pay the equivalent of a mortgage, just for that privilege. Thus the more cost effective jobs are now going to be ones that don't require degrees.
In what way is that far. It's typical tory policy. Keep the rich rich, and the commoners from being wealthy. I voted for Nick Clegg in order to lower the tuition fees, giving me a chance at education at University. Now that he and David Cameron have tripled it, I have literally no hope of going to Uni. My family just can't afford it.
I'm likely going to end up with a job with the same qualifications as people who put in 0 effort and didn't want to get to uni in the first place.
In effect, Nick Clegg's broken promise has possibly ruined my life.
We have every right to be angry.
You don't need to go to university to get well paid job lol.
