• Worse than Detroit? London one of ‘least livable’ European cities

Last time I went to London was for MCM at the ExCel centre which was pretty awesome because I don't think I've even been to building that large. Getting the train up into London you can see how shitty some of the areas are. Wouldn't want to live in a city anyway, easy to see how convenient it is living in Portsmouth for uni for part of the year but every city has really shitty parts to it
Meanwhile in Australia...
You live in Southampton? That's like the nearest city to me. Who knew that I lived so close to another FP member?
There's quite a few FPers from Southampton.
RT's inexplicable war on England by way of America continues.

'Least livable' makes a lot of sense, because it's impossible to find a central location with low rent and a decent area (i.e you won't get shot on your doorstep). The cheaper places are quite far from central, where your job is most likely to be, and some of them - for example most postcodes starting with 'E' or 'NW' - are pretty dangerous places to live This is in addition to everything being expensive as fuck in London, most notably rail fares (An estimate published by The Metro states that almost 25% of the average worker's wages in London are spent on getting to work) The only people who can afford to avoid these issues are m/billionaires, and are actually based elsewhere, such as Qatar (usually) If you want an urban job in the south, the next place to look would be Bristol.
I live in Cardiff but used to go to London quite often and while it's very enjoyable to visit, it's a place I really struggled to imagine living there. It's not just the houses that are expensive, it feels like a LOT of things there are double the price. Like, cinema ticket prices here are between £4-7 whereas in Leicester Square, they were something like £16 which is silly.
I lived there and then near there as a child whilst my Dad was studying at Imperial College. It is an absolutely horrendous place to live. Good to visit, but not ever to live.
