So tempted to make a Resistance quip. Thing's cute, though. Wonder if they expect it to survive, I can't imagine such organisms, especially something as complex as a primate, can.
There are plenty of human chimeras, which can really fuck with DNA testing.
Lydia Fairchild was pregnant with her third child when she and the father of her children, Jamie Townsend, separated. When Fairchild applied for welfare support in 2002, she was requested to provide DNA evidence that Townsend was the father of her children. While the results showed Townsend was certainly the father of the children, the DNA tests indicated that she was not their mother. This resulted in Fairchild's being taken to court for fraud for claiming benefit for other people's children or taking part in a surrogacy scam. Hospital records of her prior births were disregarded. Prosecutors called for her two children to be taken into care. As time came for her to give birth to her third child, the judge ordered a witness be present at the birth. This witness was to ensure that blood samples were immediately taken from both the child and Fairchild. Two weeks later, DNA tests indicated that she was not the mother of that child either.
Gives birth to the child, not a DNA match. Bloody chimeras
In the future everyone will be either a cyborg or a genetically-engineered super-furry.
the latter is fine if we can get functional wings the former is fine if I can get a rocket engine for a butt basically I just want to fly
Now make a manbearpig. Glorious.
genuinely expected a 3 headed monkey-dragon hybrid.
Science for the science God! Seriously, this is so cool. Think of all the things you can make happen with this.
Am I the only one who can see the movie "splice" Coming true? I mean... They essentially just created an animal. I would never venture into this territory of creating animals. Nature does it better than us.
I would. Nature doesn't 'create' animals, it simply has them run free and kills off the ones that don't function properly. Natural Selection, survival of the fittest. We could create animals that may not survive in nature and we can create animals that could be considered biological weapons. We can do much more than nature can.
When can we start producing dragons? I want a pet dragon. Or a griffin.
rrerr [editline]6th January 2012[/editline] Plus this isn't even creating life, it's just fucking with it. Creating life deals with genetics of something before it's even created.
i dont get it, it looks ugly. is it half monkey half mouse? shouldnt it be really small?
fucking awesome The emblem of my city is a fucking chimaira. ^From a medieval bestiary ^This statue represents my city, Arezzo, now in Florence national museum of archeology. It's origin is unknown, but it almost surely comes from the Etruscan civilization, which ruled middle italy way before the roman empire. [editline]6th January 2012[/editline] I'll get one tattooed sooner or later.
Next thing you know we will have abominations like that dog-girl thing from Fullmetal Alchemist.

We're boned.
what film is that from?? LOOKS SCARY AS FUCK!!
what film is that from?? LOOKS SCARY AS FUCK!!
Film? Well there you go folks, no need to upgrade your graphics card (woohoo!) STALKER has reached the pinnacle of graphical achievement
Their faces look like little Ron Pauls.
Film? Well there you go folks, no need to upgrade your graphics card (woohoo!) STALKER has reached the pinnacle of graphical achievement
its from stalker? fyi stalker is a film as well but thank you. i will play it for you.
its from stalker? fyi stalker is a film as well but thank you. i will play it for you.
It's from the game If you've watched the movie (not the remake, if that's even out, I'm not sure) you'd know pretty much instantly it couldn't be from there unless I skipped over a bit with monsters, it's been a while since I watched it
It's from the game If you've watched the movie (not the remake, if that's even out, I'm not sure) you'd know pretty much instantly it couldn't be from there unless I skipped over a bit with monsters, it's been a while since I watched it
i know but stalker is a film im glad youve seen it too :) which game do i play first? there are like 4 of them and no numbers.
In what ways do you mean complex? Humans have around the same number of genes as a chicken.
Number of genes =/= complexity.
Number of genes =/= complexity.
have you even seen chickens? theyre compelx as bitch
have you even seen chickens? theyre compelx as bitch
True, chickens are pretty damn complex. But number of genes doesn't really correspond to complexity, for example rice has more active genes than humans do.
have you not seen the amount of things you can do with rice? you can boil it you can make it into rice crispies (which you can make into rice crispie cakes) you can grind it you can not do any of these and just let it be and the list gose on.
Damn that's adorable [editline]6th January 2012[/editline] I'd love it if in the future you could order a pet with your own specifications. The perfect companion
Damn that's adorable [editline]6th January 2012[/editline] I'd love it if in the future you could order a pet with your own specifications. The perfect companion
is it just me or is this guy a furry???
Now
That's fucking horrifying.
is it just me or is this guy a furry???
I never said partner, I mean like make a monkey-rat or something and have it be created by combining individuals with the personality traits of your choice. Super customizable, super cool [editline]6th January 2012[/editline] So I can make a monkey-rat that's able to bite peoples faces off when I snap my fingers.
next we'll see animals with "the thing" abilities
first step, chimeric monkeys next step, dragons
Am I the only one who can see the movie "splice" Coming true? I mean... They essentially just created an animal.
This is nothing like splice because splice was about splicing genes, what they did here was combine two embryos without them trying to reject each other, we created nothing new.
I would never venture into this territory of creating animals. Nature does it better than us.
Nature has had 3.5 billion years to get it's shit together and people and animals are still born with crippling defects and nearly everything it's made has died, we might as well have a go at it, not like we're going to do much worse. :science:
What they should do is combine a Shark with a lion.
