Especially if you compare the Lucina amiibo to the likes of the Lucina Figma.
Lucina's amiibo doesn't look that bad, in all honesty.
Also, you're comparing a $13 figure to a $60 figure.

Her facial structure doesnt even match what she normally looks like.
Basically the more anime amiibos are supposed to look, the shittier they look. At least thats what it seems like.
The samus and Cfalcon ones are pretty decent, while the FE Cast, Link, Shulk all look pretty off

the weird thing with a lot of amiibos is that they vary greatly from package to package, and not just in a "oh her arm fell off" or "why are there black scuffs on peach's petticoat", but straight up placement of paint lines and decals (diddy's derp eyes) can be just what you always wanted, or fat and unwieldy. I remember in a single shelving of zelda models, three of them had thick, badly placed looking paint, and the one I ended up buying looked like it was a legit product instead of a bad mass produced knockoff found on ebay. I'd bet you can find some legit good looking versions of those models, and some that are so, so much worse

The Pikachu and DK amiibos look flawless to me.

Idunno bro, she looks pretty decent considering she's only $13. I mean yeah, there are some questionable places for the paint, but considering how small these figures are, I doubt you'll be looking that close to them anyway.
The Figma comparison is pointless, because not everybody wants to pay $60 for a figure.
That, and characters like Ike, or Marth don't even have Figmas
but, like Dai said, not every figure comes out the same. some come out nice, some come out bad. people just like to focus on the bad ones because of the "funny meme merth" video
I hope the whole amiibo craze causes Nintendo to start making regular, moderately priced figurines for all their franchises.

Imagine a range of Animal Crossing villagers. Mmm.
They should also do a better job keeping their games in print.
Pikmin 3 is out of print, and costs over 80$ new. Same with Orcarina of Time, Starfox 3D, Kid Icarus, etc. Even used copies are expensive. On most other systems, you would expect games to cost less over time, not more.
You could argue that it's been X amount of time, so it makes sense to move to digital. But the eShop charges full retail price for the digital copies... so even if the game has been out 3-4 years, you're still paying what you would have paid for a box + cartridge/CD + manual. Retail copies also aren't tied to Nintendo's moronic NNID system.
What if Smash goes out of print? Mario Kart? How is their console going to survive if you can't buy games for reasonable prices?
Pff. I stopped giving a shit about all of Nintendo's poor business decisions when I started modding and fixing old consoles and realized how cheap Nintendo could be with some of them. There's a reason that some nes games, Duck Hunt being one of the more notable ones, have carts that are actually the famicom carts with a 60 to 72 pin converter in the cart. Nintendo is both cheap and doesn't understand supply/demand. It's ALWAYS been this way. It's just that old Nintendo gave a shit about trying to keep the supply up, you know, before they could ride the mario and zelda exclusivity train to the bank. They made those carts so little jimmy wouldn't have to go without Duck Hunt on Christmas morning because there weren't enough carts in supply to meet the demand.
Best way to tell if your nes cart is potentially one of them is to check for 5 screws holding it together instead of 3 screws and two clips. The 5 screw ones can have them but the 3 screw ones never will.

Seems like the Amiibo printing process is very luck of the draw based, which makes me want to stay away from it. Pretty unfortuante actually.
And I know the figma is much more pricey, But personally if I were to ever get a figure of a character I like, I'd want it to look badass and cool. Which basically brings me back to what I said at the beginning, Amiibos arent very good for either gameplay or as a figurine.
The gameplay is like what, virtual cock fighting? Some skins? Nothing amazing.
All it has going for it right now is its retail price. But at the rarity of some amiibos and all the Scalping going on, you might actually be better off getting a Figma.
They're hard to get in Europe AND Japan as it is, but that probably didn't help.
Depends on your region :P Have a friend who regularly buys them here and sends them to people in other countries. Since the amiibo market is almost nonexistant, but some still get shipped, it's fairly easy to grab even rare ones a while after release.

It's not as luck based as you might think. It's about the same as buying any toy of this price range, really. Also, Amiibo come in clear packaging, so if you don't like how it looks you can just easily return it, or resell it.
Regarding Gameplay, I think their uses is one of the better ones. I'd rather have skins and AI companions rather than having actual gameplay content stuck behind a physical rarity based paywall.
Also, like I said earlier the figma thing works for some Amiibo, but for other characters like Ike, Ness, or Falcon, this is the most we'll probably ever get for these guys.
I thought they were doing this shit to enforce rarity.

Dunno, they got the hair colour entirely wrong. :v:
That being said, it'll be interesting to see how they'll handle their future card-based Amiibos. It got pretty ridiculous with the Animal Crossing eReader cards way back.
