Epic Games distances itself from ultraviolent mass-murder game Hatred
You clearly missed his point. The context matters. It's not that the game glorifies violence, it's that it glorifies, encourages, and actually requires you to kill innocent people for no reason other than "I hate everyone!"
You mean exactly what I've (and almost everyone else) been doing since being a kid by going on killingsprees GTA games?
this would be pretty great if it was true
Sounds like complete bullshit considering the people who made the game (ie avid fans of big mindless shooters).
Besides that'd probably bring the game to the same level of artsy that they complained about to begin with.

That's never been the singular purpose of a GTA game.
Oh shit, nobody's said it yet.
Eh-hem:
CRAWLING IN MY SKIIIIN
That's never been the singular purpose of a GTA game.
But it is a fairly huge part you have to admit.
You mean exactly what I've (and almost everyone else) been doing since being a kid by going on killingsprees GTA games?
GTA doesn't tell you to kill innocents, that's something that comes from your own mind.
But it is a fairly huge part you have to admit.
Yeah, but GTA's also fun while doing it, along with the satire and such.
This game looks like it's going to be really fucking boring.
But it is a fairly huge part you have to admit.
Not really, I haven't done that since around the time San Andreas was new. It's perfectly avoidable in regular play.
Yeah, but GTA's also fun while doing it, along with the satire and such.
This game looks like it's going to be really fucking boring.
As far as I can tell it's literally just holding left mouse and running around.
They do shoot back. Have you looked closely to the trailer? By the way, the game seems pretty fun. Im broke, but i might get it sometime.
Yeah, but GTA's also fun while doing it, along with the satire and such.
There is no satire while you go on murder sprees in gta. There is satire of society and culture but nothing of that sort comes into play while you're on a rampage. Are you implying that it is fine to kill innocents as long as satire is involved? That's a poor justification really.
Not really, I haven't done that since around the time San Andreas was new. It's perfectly avoidable in regular play.
Half the reason I play GTA is to cause chaos in a sandbox world. Am I a school shooting psycho now?
GTA doesn't tell you to kill innocents, that's something that comes from your own mind.
This game also came from someone's mind. The only difference is that here it is focus on fucking shit up. And innocents are not the only people you kill. You kill plenty of cops in GTA and in many cases you must. Unless I am wrong, cops in gta are not some corrupt force but innocent fat policemen.
Half the reason I play GTA is to cause chaos in a sandbox world. Am I a school shooting psycho now?
No, and nobody ever implied that. You're just still wrong in saying that it's any sort of main point in GTA.
And innocents are not the only people you kill.
Doesn't matter, it's actually a big point in the game, unlike GTA.
Unless I am wrong, cops in gta are not some corrupt force but innocent fat policemen.
You mean the "innocent fat policemen" that fire upon you if you hit someone with a bottle instead of trying to arrest you? Not to mention all the corruption that takes place in [sp]GTAV's[/sp] storyline.
GTA's police force is not innocent.
No, and nobody ever implied that. You're just still wrong in saying that it's any sort of main point in GTA.
Is it not? Until GTA4 they gave you tons of shit like tanks and jets and what not to go crazy. Not to mention many mayhem side-missions where you essentially kill everything in sight for points and cash.
It is not the main point, of course. But it is a large part of GTA series. And please no more "it's satire" argument, it's just poor excuse to commit mass murder in a videogame.
Doesn't matter, it's actually a big point in the game, unlike GTA.
Do we even know that? All we've seen is 1 minute trailer. It could be, it could be not.

GTA's police force is not innocent.
The grunts are pretty innocent. A gameplay "bug" is not a reason to demonize common virtual working man.
Why do you need a moral reason to murder virtual AI? Isn't the whole point of games is that you can do whatever you want and don't need a reason to do it? If it's fun what's the problem? If it's not, then that's okay, it's just not for you.
But do we really need deep moral reasons to enjoy an action flick or a game? If it's done well(which we don't know at this point), why is it such an issue?

Dude have you ever paid attention to what the cops say when you see them around or get chased ? They're fucking vicious. Everyone in the GTA universe is a huge cunt, absolutely everyone.
You can even get shot in the face by saying hi to a police officer in GTA V.
It's more really dark humor and satire than some serious edgy as fuck "the humans worms are feasting on the world's carcass" time scenario.

remember when postal 2 did that exact same thing 11 years ago
remember when postal 2 did that exact same thing 11 years ago
And remember how it did it in an actually interesting way that played on the player's patience and nerve by basically putting you in huge-ass waiting lines all the time, while rewarding violence with both immediate result AND complete clusterfucks of everyone shooting everything
So who's the head developer...?

Why yes, that group IS the Facebook page of a far-right Polish Nationalist party.
I don't really know if it's ironic or not, but Suffocation is very well known for being a mixed race band (from Long Island New York of all places). I guess being a Nationalist doesn't automatically make someone racist (or he is just really uninformed about the music he listens to).

if nothing happens at all, like in postal 2, then is it really designed for that though?
Satire - deciding factor between immoral and perfectly ok
clearly you don't actually know what satire is then. And that makes this post really bad.
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline]
I just love when people criticize the concept of a satire when they don't even understand it at all.
Plot twist: The game actually submits your information to a mental health study if you complete it.
Bigger twist: It reports your mental diagnosis to the local authorities.
I usually like Boogie but how the fuck can he analyze entire game based on a single trailer that was purposely crafted for (negative) viral PR? There is no other gameplay or any info about this game, we don't know if it's a mindless massacre simulator or if there is actually more to it. He is comparing a huge game that is already out to a single 1 minute trailer. That's rather silly to me.
Yes, putting things simply, we are developing a game about killing people. But what's more important is the fact that we are honest in our approach. Our game doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is and we don't add to it any fake philosophy.
i don't know what to tell you, friend
good, this game is a horrible thing.
out of all the ways they could've conveyed the "society is becoming too politically correct" theme, they chose one of the simplest and most cliche way of doing it.
this ^^ is what separates this game from other, similar, but good games: there is no satire, no wittiness, no deeper meaning. there is so little intelligent thought put into this game, and that's why it's junk.
If they really were smart, the realize they making a shooty game isn't really going to shock any audience at all. They could have tried to tackle a more mature subject, like rape. Look at Ellen's story arc in IHNMAIMS, that shit is a hundred times more disturbing than some trenchcoat wearing self-insert metalhead shooting people.
i don't know what to tell you, friend
Here, let me help you then. "Controversy shit stirring"
Here, let me help you then. "Controversy shit stirring"
so they are claiming to be "honest in our approach. Our game doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is and we don't add to it any fake philosophy."
but what they're actually doing is controversial shit stirring, and their game is actually pretending to be something else and they're putting fake philosophy to a game that is, putting things simply, about killing people
that's really something
It's meant to shock you. Shock is entertaining. Same concept has been applied in movies for years. It's all fake, it's not real, and ultimately you're not harming anybody and you will not go into a murderous spree in real life for playing this game, because only insane people, people entirely out of touch with reality would seriously consider harming somebody, let alone murdering someone just because life is not going their way.
People will make games about whatever subject matter they want, ultimately us as consumers have the power to decide if this game is something that should be or not. Your money ensures the future of a developer. If you don't like this game, the best thing you can do is not buy it. Arguing for censorship however, is playing with the future of videogames as an art form and as a mean of communication.
How is postal 1 acceptable and this isn't ? I don't care if the dev is fucking Hitler, I've never cared about Devs political views so why should I care now ? this game looks like fun and I will probably play it.
Looks like fun, I hope it makes alot of money just to piss you Facepunch kiddies off.
Stop using the word Edgy, its just a fucking buzzword nowadays....

Because postal 1 is satire and shit and this clearly isn't because we obviously know everything about it.
