Sony's like the kid with Aspergers who everyone annoys until they finally snap and look like a complete fool during the outburst.
brb running ccleaner
They probably got my ip a couple of hundred times then.
Next up, anyone who even knows that these hacks exist will be sued. [editline]4th March 2011[/editline] And then anyone who's friends with someone who knows will be sued.
What's sad and scary, is that this is probably true. I can easily see them attempting to sue the owners of IPs that frequented that site more than others, solely to scare people. Just look at what's happening between them and LG, they're suing simply for the sake of suing.
Wow. Go soak your head sony and dad'll get you a lollipop. Seriously. 3 gens of sony consoles in my house and now you're doing this? Consider this relationship over! the kids hardly recognize you anymore. You're obsessed and you've turned into a monster! So keep the fuck away from me and the kids! You'll be hearing from your own lawyer bitch! [editline]5th March 2011[/editline]
What's sad and scary, is that this is probably true. I have a sudden urge to let Sony know that i want them to go assfinger themselves with a chainsaw.
brb running ccleaner
How exactly will ccleaner help you when your IP was logged serverside?
Oh shit. Wait... Ill just change my IP!
Good luck, I heard they ran out weeks ago. :v: [editline]4th March 2011[/editline]
How exactly will ccleaner help you when your IP was logged serverside?
Destroys the evidence clientside. :ninja:
You guys are sensationalizing it as if sony is going to track down every person who visited the site..stop and go back and read the article.
Sony told Spero, a San Francisco magistrate, that it needed the information for at least two reasons. One is to prove the “defendant’s distribution” of the hack. The other involves a jurisdictional argument over whether Sony must sue Hotz in his home state of New Jersey rather than in San Francisco, which Sony would prefer. Sony said the server logs would demonstrate that many of those who downloaded Hotz’s hack reside in Northern California — thus making San Francisco a proper venue for the case.
tl;dr 1. They need the IPs to prove how many people went to his site, so they can calculate a better estimate of damages based on how many people he distributed the info to. 2. For court jurisdiction reasons of where to hold the venue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Change_of_venue Reading is good. Jumping to conclusions based on thread titles is bad.

I literally wouldn't put it past them, especially now that they're using the same scare tactics that the MPAA and RIAA use for their copyright infringement lawsuits.
The way sony acting right now, everyone will wake up with a gun pointing at their face.
Pff they could just have asked for my IP. 83.128.128.152 There. Happy now?
Pff they could just have asked for my IP. 83.128.128.152 There. Happy now?
im going to open up cmd and ping you >:)
im going to open up cmd and ping you >:)
I'm shacking in my jack boots sir.
OH NO THEY HAVE MY IP! Oh wait it just changed... Dynamic IP ftw? Sony has lost all respect from me with their pointless scare tactics.
Sony totally deserves ps3 sale halt in europe, fucking pricks
Oh wait it just changed... Dynamic IP ftw?
They have the dates and IPs, your ISP has them to. Doesn't slow them down at all.
OH NO THEY HAVE MY IP! Oh wait it just changed... Dynamic IP ftw? Sony has lost all respect from me with their pointless scare tactics.
You know that one call to your isp and they know who that ip belonged to... Damn ninjad
I'm guessing this is only restricted to the US, right?
If we go back to console wars I never left the xbro side.
Wow, I was just about to buy a PS3, but then Sony pulls this shit? I'll probably not buy anymore Sony products for a while now.
Sony banning my IP from PSN? Ok, just another 24 hours and I will be back online :smug:
You don't have this problem with PCs. You just have DRM (unless you buy games that don't have DRM).
Why does anyone care? They've got your IP, boo hoo. They cannot and will not sue everyone who accessed that website.
Sony banning my IP from PSN? Ok, just another 24 hours and I will be back online :smug:
Uh, that's not what they collected the IPs for
Again, read the article, they tell you exactly what they needed the info for. It's for figuring out where to hold the trial and calculating damages for their lawsuit against the hacker. Everyone needs to stop jumping to conclusions and go back and read the article
Is this even legal? I could understand if it was to the police, but to a non government organization?
Is this even legal? I could understand if it was to the police, but to a non government organization?
I guess it is otherwise they wouldn't of been granted the ability to do it by a federal magistrate.
Wasn't there a law passed that you were prohibited from being charged / sued for jailbreaking hardware you owned?
Microsoft's Kinect is hacked. Microsoft realizes that it's a waste of time and money to stop the hacks so they support the modding of the Kinect. The PS3 gets hacked. Sony unleashes a world wide crack down on anyone that's even thought of the idea of hacking their PS3 and proceeds to kill their families with chainsaws in front of their faces. They then proceed to chop off the offender's dick and stab their eyes out with a Play-Doh knife.
