I always hate how there are rules and regulations to keep people from harming themselves by doing stupid things, but this is top on the list now. If someone wants to replace their water with Monster let them. Who are we to say they can't do that? It's the same way that I feel about half the other dumb shit that's there to "protect" the idiots who would do that crap in the first place.
I like the idea of pushing industries to produce better tasting healthier products but.
I want to make this a healthier choice
This is quite a load of garbage. This isn't about cupcakes made with motor oil, it's sugar.
Excuse me? It's not your place to tell me how to live my life. What a load of shit.
To be honest, and all of you probably think I'm over reacting by saying this, but I would start a riot if something like this happened where I live.
Riots are fun! On a more serious note, they could have just taxed it for extra $$$, now people are just annoyed.
Sorry, Scout, but "Bonk!" has been outlawed in your hometown. Aw, jeeze!
We should dump all their healthy drinks in the harbor.
what the fuck are they thinking this isnt the way to get people to eat healthy
Please read the article. Everyone keeps overreacting, this only applies to federal property, where federal dollars are used. You can still go get your supersized coca-cola at McDonalds if you want. Anyways, I dunno if this was the right idea or not, but seriously, there's no need for rioting if it only applies to federal property. They're just not gonna sell sugary shit at schools, parks, city hall, ect. They're not infringing on your rights or freedoms when you can just walk across the street to the nearest corner store.
sometimes i feel like i live in a communist country where everything is decided for me

Anyway, I don't see the issue with this. If the city doesn't want to waste it's money stocking vending machines with silly sodas and what not, so be it.
Seriously guys, read the damn article. Don't just take the sensationalist headline as fact. Read it and you will find out what is actually happening. [editline]6th September 2011[/editline] Ninja'd
Oh the irony of this happening in Boston
Lol, sugary drink prohibition. I'd be hilarious if this somehow promotes a crime wave with people sneaking in Coke syrup and selling illicit sugary drinks on speakeasies. What would be the equivalent of Al Capone? Fido Dido?
invasion of liberty right there, let people make their own choices
And the money spent passing and enforcing this could have instead gone to promoting a healthy lifestyle in local schools. gj.
Its only on city property, like parks and schools. Stores can still sell whatever they want.
This is what it looks like when someone actually reads the article. The Boston Food Police aren't going to be pulling your precious Mountain Dew off the shelves of supermarkets. The ban applies to city property only, which means parks, schools, and public office buildings. This affects almost nobody.
sometimes i feel like i live in a communist country where everything is decided for me
that isn't what communism is :/ [editline]6th September 2011[/editline] and seriously people read the fucking article
My body, my choice... ...of beverages
I am enjoying the fact that a fat old mayor is trying to push this ban. Maybe he should have cut back on the sodas 20 years ago.
The idea of getting arrested for drinking a can of coke is hilarious.
You were either too dumb to properly understand the article or you didn't read at all. Either way that's an uninformed and stupid thing to say.
pls lock threads with misleading, sensationalist titles whichever mod peruses this section
How about the government tries to encourage more people to drink diet sodas? Diet sodas are for the most part just as good tasting as regular sodas (less sweet of course, but I regularly drink diet sodas and you get used to it) and while I know diet sodas are not exactly the healthiest things on the planet they're still a better alternative to the completely empty calories of regular soda. [editline]6th September 2011[/editline]
pls lock threads with misleading, sensationalist titles whichever mod peruses this section
It shouldn't matter if the thread title is misleading as long as everyone reads the damn article.
Fat fuck mayor banning sodas in city-owned buildings. Check his fucking desk and you'll probably find five pepsis and ten big macs.
FWI This is already in effect in about 60-70% of schools and city run areas (in the US at least).

HEIL HEALTH! In all seriousness though this is ridiculous.
You guys are dumb. They haven't banned soda from being sold entirely, they just banned it from being sold in vending machines in public buildings. IE you can't get your cokes at the school vending machine anymore.
Damn, you guys are dumb as hell.
Damn, you guys are dumb as hell.
The ones who just posted without even reading the article are dumb as hell.
Seriously, you guys are fucking retarded you know that
