Religious activities and "time-out" could mean fines for childcare centres.
I don't see how spending an hour of your day ONCE A YEAR in church will be any different from resting your lazy ass in the armchair playing computer games or being the mighty atheist on the internet.
For your information it wasnt an hour, it was a few days doing odd rehersals.
I got bollocked from my teacher for laughing all the way through, I was only 8.
Everyone says no, because no one likes discipline. No one likes the fact, to every action there is a consequence. They don't like to throttle themselves, and think twice before they do something. They don't like punishment.
So no, don't throw them into time-out. Let kids know, when they're acting out of line they'll get "hey don't do that" to teach them the lesson.

Would you, the Christian, be comfortable spending an hour a year in a gay orgy?

Actually teaching kids right from wrong and explaining why wrong things are wrong has been proven to work best by people with degrees and shit so I'll trust them over someone who uses the name "Richard Simmons" to post online

You should read his stalker stories.

Although slapping or hitting children should be out of the question, there does need to be some sort of punishment. Most children are not developed enough to understand why something is wrong, and will simply take advantage of the lack of punishment.
I wish I hadnt been fed all the christian bullshit at primary school.
And the yearly visit to the church for christmas. ridiculous.
was it a public school?
Religious activities, I can see why it's bad. (Forcing a specific religion on such a young child)
But time-outs? Why the fuck is society so keen on eliminating punishment?
Exactly this, and now, they're just going to not learn consequences and keep doing it, thus, becoming little shitlers later in life.

Oh wow, I didn't expect you to get all personal and sassy. bad experiences in time out?

Thats why you talk to them. And if you have no authoritarian stance over your child, they'll listen for sure.

Time out is jail for little people.

Whenever my mother yells, which happens a lot, I ignore her.

Minus gang rape and drugs.

Try getting a child to behave by talking to him when they don't give a shit that it's wrong.

you could just take their shit away
Oh boy! They decorate trees for the winter time of year. They find colored eggs in the grass because it's about that time of year. As long as they're not actually teaching the religion, but just doing some little fun activities, that's perfectly fine. This is just plain stupidity.
you could just take their shit away
Or by the current parenting trend, let them be, they're just being kids.
remind me again why this is necessary
you could just take their shit away
You're still punishing them, and in a worse way than time outs.

So when they key the neighbours car, or punch their friend in the face, or start messing with kitchen knives, or decide to smash furniture you should just let them be, just because they're kids. Possibly some of the dumbest logic I've ever seen.
Wait sorry, are you being sarcastic or not, I really can't tell.

I'm being sarcastic. Since a lot of kids on this forum don't see punishment clearly as they should...

Why are the only two options for disciplining kids nothing or everything
Why are the only two options for disciplining kids nothing or everything
because you either get punished or you don't
now what matters is the severity of the punishment
By the way, a "time out" is essentially a way of admitting that you're not capable of disciplining a child properly so I agree with this ruling entirely
Please explain
I say feed them crack every time they have an outburst and lock them in a dog cage.
I say feed them crack every time they have an outburst and lock them in a dog cage.
Agreed. This is how I was raised and look how I turned out.

YES!
I don't see a problem with timeouts, I mean they do something wrong, you put them in a corner for a while, makes them learn that if they do X bad thing they won't get any fun for a while, makes sense to me.
Agreed. This is how I was raised and look how I turned out.
Golden parenting I say.

No, the children should be rehabilitated and given job training.
"You were made to collect eggs? OH MY GOD MY BABY! Oh god, how could they DO this to you?"
I would like if we didn't have religious activities in daycare centers that aren't specifically about one religion, but no time-outs? That's fucking ridiculous.
The things they should ban from daycare centers are hitting the kids, which I'm pretty sure is banned.

Unless they're forcing the kids to like pray to God or something while they do it, I don't see the big deal about doing up a tree or finding hidden eggs.
Time out is effectively "I'm not going to do anything till you learn your lesson by not doing anything". It's a stupid punishment that effectively teaches kids nothing by having them do nothing. There are more effective punishment strategies.
