Mayor of Lewiston, Maine wants to publicize who’s on welfare and where they live

I see why people would get all annoyed at the idea but can someone explain why there is anything inherently wrong with the idea? Yeah it's important to note how the government spends our money and there's the argument that if we do this, why not require people in office to release their financial history. Why the fuck don't we do that too then?
We should publish the names and locations of wallstreet business men and CEOs.
This is quite possibly the shittiest comparison I've ever heard. I don't know how requiring wallstreet businessmen and CEOs who gain money from doing things unrelated to government issued funds actually doing things is the same as releasing information about who is using government issued welfare and financial aid.

Because it will incite harassment or even violence against poor people.
Even the dude himself says so.

That sounds more like a social issue than an issue with the concept of being more clear about how money is spent.
Let's talk more about the legislation and less about what he looks like?

Its because every post in this thread is angsty-teen tier talking about what the guy looks like. I wouldn't expect any actual discussion and it's not surprising they jump straight to big evil corporations and Wall Street. That's like the go to comparative.

A "social issue" that the law is explicitly being made to utilize.
Also gotta love this fucked-up logic:
“Some people are going to get harmed but if it’s for the good of everybody, that’s the way it is.”
"Innocent people getting hurt is just the necessary price to pay for making sure bad people don't get helped!"

If by every post in this thread, you mean 4 posts in this thread. Maybe don't skip the scenes with Count von Count next time you watch Sesame Street?

How to be clear with how money is spent without endangering innocent people:
say how much money you're spending on welfare without naming any specific names or addresses.
If the public is feeling particularly anal about exactly how it's being spent, release statistics of how long people are on and what benefits they're receiving, but again, without naming any specific names or addresses.

I always felt like the more lists the gov releases the more easy it is to rob people just compile the lists
-"on welfare" - don't rob em, won't have anything worthwhile
-"has a gun" - don't rob em, might get shot, unless if you intend to rob them for their guns.
-"has a criminal record" - don't rob em, could have illegal weapons
and now you have a list of the easiest to rob people, sure it won't be entirely reliable but it's a start, even having one of these lists would be really useful for criminals.

Eagerly expecting next legislation to enforce wearing big yellow stars on anyone who is not a straight Christian rich white man. Just so people have the right to know.
Every system that benefits people in some way is abused. End of story. They should publish the governor's address, his families names, childrens names, their school and grades, his family's addresses and bank account information, so on and so forth
Basically, "lets make it easier for people to not get a job"
My state is completely fucked when it comes to politics. I mean look at our governor. He's vetoed every bill that's come his way, even ones that are complete Bipartisan agreements he has, in order to abolish income tax.

The dirty Lew is just a cesspool for scumbags like their mayor and our governor. Literally the entire state jokes about it and makes fun of that shithole.
