Top five countries by military expenditure in 2015.

There we go.
Yeah, this is what I expected. Some more of that "fiscal conservatism" the republicans are fond of.
Fiscal conservatism is just a dog whistle for making sure money doesn't get spent on those pesky poor people.
I think the idiot might be made to divert funding to railgun or laser research lmao, or else some of that money is going to go into intelligence slush funds
Guaranteed CIA beach party, because when his four years are up and the mischief of what the intelligence parties sees the light of day, the man won't have much of a repuation left.
Fiscal conservatism is just a dog whistle for making sure money doesn't get spent on those pesky poor people.
Yeah that's the rough thing, I've met a few people who identify as "only fiscally conservative", like "oh I'm not an asshole I just don't like big spending", sure that would be cool, except none of them are down for less military spending. It's pretty much just anti social services. It boggles my mind.
Can't wait to lose my insurance so our government can afford to buy more jets and bombs.
Conservatives once again proving their dedication to "small government". Can't wait for immigration spending to be totally fucked as well.
54 billion dollars toward education, healthcare, NASA, infrastructure, anything else would be more useful than money geared toward death machines.
While I don't agree with America's gloifying of soldiers, they get treated like absolute ass for all the risks they take.

Strange how military budget cuts seem to always hit the soldiers but the bumps rarely do...

I'm absolutely positive none of this money, as usual, will reach the common soldier. The only benefit will be the higher up bigwigs and the military contractors that get paid to design more shiny new toys for the pleasure of the orange in chief.

As a former Soldier, I agree with everything in this post.
Also, Trump is a disgusting, hypocritcal draft-dodger who insults PTSD victims and a POW/national war hero (John McCain). He also thinks he "knows more than the generals." I have family and friends still in the military, and this piece of shit is risking their lives with his rhetoric.
Fuck that CUNT
54 billion dollars toward education, healthcare, NASA, infrastructure, anything else would be more useful than money geared toward death machines.
Yeah, but an educated country would realize that the DNC and [especially the] GOP are both more concerned about making loads of money than treating fellow citizens as equals and should be replaced and a country with healthcare has time to think about what's being done to them instead of dealing with medical debt that pales in comparison to what an elite sees come in within a day, can't have that!
Military gets too much money as is, however if this money went to the actual soldiers I won't complain ha
Considering how much of his pitch for presidency revolved around "Americans are being threatened by foreigners and need me to protect them", I wonder to what extent this decision just serves to cement his image, not to fulfill any practical purpose.
I mean from what I can tell it's not like America's military is actually hurting for money or that he needs to please the military so it won't overthrow him. I guess if everything's true about his sources of information, he may genuinely have a very different view on things? At this point I'm not sure how much of him is for show and how much is for real.
You guys are going to run yourselves into the ground.
nobody ever challenges it. hillary let him walk away with that in the debates
Hillary let him get away with so much shit in the debates. She knew her shit but god was she un-charismatic.
I wish she went full-populist and DUMPED all over him in the debates, considering she could run mental circles around his pea brain. She was waaaay too reserved. We need to nominate someone in 2020 who isn't afraid to cut through the bullshit and rhetorically destroy their opponent's life on stage. That's what the people love, clearly (see: Trump in the GOP primaries. Fuckin' bloodbath).

If you try to use their logic then Bernie Sanders might as well have been a fiscal conservative for wanting to cut spending in certain places to fund healthcare.

Historically speaking, the most charismatic speaker is the victor 9 in 10 elections.

Yeah. Hillary treated the debates more like a job interview (which to be fair, is what it ought to be) rather than a chance to rile up the base. She desperately lacked that passion and fire that gets people to the polls, and seemed to rely on "trust me, I'm smart, just go to my website. Plus, I'm not Trump lol." Critical error imo.
Also, $54 Billion towards more military spending but Flint still doesn't have drinking water? lol (somebody please kill me).

I think speaking about Clinton now is pointless but it is important to mention she did receive a huge boost after the debates.
But in general, yes, she didn't get people passionate for her, yeah. Neither than Trump, really, in the end.
Only the die-hard supporters voted, and because of that you guys are left in a little bit of a mess.
I guess at least he is doing what he promised to do.
That aside, not surprising in the least. Aren't the Republicans all about the military? That's at least the impression I've gotten: always the Republicans that're calling for increased military spending whenever I news pop up about it.
What? Depleted? It's not fucking depleted, the US could still steam roll practically every other country.
Rebuild the depleted military at a time we most need it.
Unaware it was disassembled
Unaware it was depleted
Unaware we were in a world war
Maybe you could save that 54 billion if we didn't have one or more military bases in over 60 countries
What? Depleted? It's not fucking depleted, the US could still steam roll practically every other country.
If the U.S. Military is so good why did that raid in Yemen get botched so badly????
CheckmATE
[sp]/sarcasm[/sp]
I remember reading here a while back that US arms/equipment manufactures already produce more tanks than we know what to do with simply because of how good it looks on congressmen's voting records, so this sadly isn't too surprising.
I wonder if he'll try to frame this with the "create jobs!" rhetoric, though. Anyone know whether there's still a lot of people in military tech factories, or have robots taken them over already?
how many hospitals, schools, houses, parks, etc
$54 billion would be much better spent taking care of our veterans.
Update: Mccain still thinks this is not enough
OK guys but here's what we can do;
siphon all the money, gradually, out of everything else, no education, no healthcare, no NASA, no nothing. All of everything goes to military. Then, we form US Military raiding parties, sail to Finland, BAM, steal their education. Sail to Canada, steal their healthcare.
We'll be kinda like vikings

I picture an MRAP rolling out with fully geared soldiers to drop a kid off for school in Finland then aggressively take him back when the day is over.
Just like North Korea, let the populace starve while the military gets banquets

Absolutely fucking disgusting.

No kidding.
USAID programs get gutted and the military gets ramped up because almost two decades of sticking that wangdangdoodle into the hornet's nest that is the Middle East wasn't enough.
I guess the only way he can really spin this is job creation.
Though I am mystified how he plans to fight off the Republican party line by keeping welfare plans unscathed.
Fyi we can't afford to keep our ships repaired most of which are in various states of disrepair, and 2/3rds of US Navy strike fighters can't fly due to large budget shortfalls due to obama Era cuts to the military. I understand defense spending needs to be toned down a bit, but the previous cuts rubber stamped by Obama are to blame and now we need EVEN MORE funding than ever before to unfuck all this shit, and we are STILL balls deep in the middle east.

I totally agree, but to be fair our pay raises ARE part of the yearly fiscal budgets passed by congress, they are separate from any major defense budget increases or decreases and passed about once a year.
They would benefit from the hospitals, schools, parks, homes, etc. too.
There are various benefits that they were promised when they signed up that they're being denied, because somehow we can find all the money in the world to send them off to whatever country we're pissed off at for the time, but the coffer runs dry once they come back home.
My main point was that if they want to go around spending money we don't have and insist that it be for the military, they might as well spend it on the people they've left behind first.
maybe some of that 54 billion can go into a gun for trump to kill himself with

oh dont forget the EPA would most likely be the agency charged with fixing flint if they got congressional action and the epa is supposidly getting gutted to the bone in the 2018 budget proposal
