PSN Users Reporting Hundreds of Dollars Stolen From Them

You know, there are few days I'd feel happy over having to have my CC locked down due to overdraw, but this is a day I might just not bother with paying it off yet :V
Good luck getting any charges to go through on it asshole.
I'll just replace it when I get home in a few days and repay it after that.
If you put your information into the Playstation Network, then it's been compromised.
I haven't entered any credit card info on my ps3 in over 6 months. You're telling me I'm still compromised with no info saved?
Good job I have no money to be taken out right now, but fuck this, maybe time to ditch the PS3?

saved is the key word.
Sony likely retains your CC# and other forms of online transactions through the PSN for legitimate legal/security purposes. Whether that's available to the attack is unknown, but it's a possibility that can't be ruled out.
Mine was also now almost 2 years ago since I last bought something. And I didn't ask for it to be saved so I'm likely cool even if the thing wasn't stronglocked. :V
if the hackers are caught can people who have been affected sue them or are they pretty much just left damaged?
I've got a PSN account I believe, since I own a PSP.
Good luck ripping me off though, the credit card that's probably not attached to it was deactivated last year. :v:
I last used PSN a while back, now I can't remember what cards are on the account and obviously I can't go check. I dunno if I'm screwed or not.
I think I'm might lucky enough that the card I saved expired 3 months ago.
This situation is really sad though, and Geohotz or not, hackers would probably find the security hole some other day anyway.

Well, time to cancel that credit card.
Great, now I have to tell my father that our debit card information is at risk and that will be on my head.
Worse, if money was actually stolen, I'll somehow get yelled at for irrational reasons.
Please God, let them have missed/passed us by until I can warn someone to cancel the card...
Welp, lost about 600$. My credit card hadn't been used much for a month and that's what was left and now it's empty.
Great, i'm not really rich enough to afford this, but my parents are being saints and helping me.
And all this started because Geohot wanted GPU access.
Now imagine what would've happened if Sony didn't gimp the GPU access for otherOS.
I'm surprised this is not all over mainstream media.
I'm surprised this is not all over mainstream media.
It's getting there, trust me it's gonna be a on the news tomorrow.
i would hate to be the higher ups at sony right now
They are still being payed fucking ridiculous amounts of money, I wouldn't mind.
It's more likely that a bunch of black hat hackers abused the commotion around Sony/Anonymous, hacked the network and then blamed it on Anonymous.
I was actually thinking it was probably something like this, considering Anonymous goes and makes all their plans very public, it really wouldn't work the way it did. Hundreds of 1337 15 year old hax0rz wouldn't be able to keep this a secret for very long.
Kinda like when The Plague wanted to blame hacker kids for the Da Vinci virus...

Too late

Fuck Sony, and fuck the hackers. Both of them fucked up.
I doubt Sony was expecting this when they started being assholes to geohot.
Will I be okay if I just unplugged my PS3??????????????
This is ridiculous. People are literally losing hundreds of dollars that they worked for because of Sony.
There are going to be some major repercussions for Sony.
These kind of things make me wish that mankind wasn't so careless. It's not about stupid Sony or the Playstation Network. It's about people are stealing off of others that wanted to have some fun.
I hate humanity in most situations.
Will I be okay if I just unplugged my PS3??????????????
yes
Will I be okay if I just unplugged my PS3??????????????
Most likely not.
If your CC was saved on sonys servers you are most likely fucked.
Nice knowing you Sony.
Thank FUCK i sold my PS3 more than a month ago, i only used my account to talk to friends and was considering buying something, thank god i didn't.
I sold my 80GB Used ps3 for $350 :v:
Welp, lost about 600$. My credit card hadn't been used much for a month and that's what was left and now it's empty.

Call the CC issuer and tell them it's fradulent charges. Explain the situation, but whatever you do don't pay off the charges unless it's literally the ONLY option, which it most likely won't be.
I'm surprised this is not all over mainstream media.
Sony is contacting media outlets and is trying to get the word spread, like previously stated, it will most likely be all over the news on the 27th.

Your information is still vulnerable (Email, password, security questions, address).
This is still a problem.
I can just imagine this being used for a Lifelock plug on Talk Radio.
It's a good thing I don't own a PS3 or a credit card, but still. If Sony survives this, I can only see them as an untrusted first party company, or an barely trusted Third party, and even then.
I doubt we'll be seeing a PS4 as a result of this.
woohoo, victory for the scrappy underdog against the big, faceless mega-corporation
Woo for millions of bank accounts wiped clean.
So what that some of those people will lose thousands of dollars all because they wanted to buy a DLC? So what if some people will be unable to pay rent, or even worse, unable to buy food?
So what that addresses, names, credit cards, passwords of MILLIONS of people may be dumped online?
so what that this info is enough to do a lot of bad things to them?
NOBODY deserves this.

Couldn't you get that money back?
