• PSN Users Reporting Hundreds of Dollars Stolen From Them
It's really kind of impressive, the grand scheme of it. If someone planned this all out, than they're truly brilliant and/or evil. In one fell swoop, a single person has quite possibly sown the death knell for a major international company, ruined the name(not that Anon ever had a name) of a loose yet infamous coalition of hacktivists, and in the process has likely become millions of dollars richer. I'd very much like to know though, how he pulled it all off, getting into the deepest, darkest recesses of Sony to get the CC information, decrypted it, and then utilized it on a massive scale to steal millions and millions of dollars. It would be something worth knowing.
Sony didn't remove developer tools from core console that everybody has, hackers enabled it to be unlocked.
It's been probably over a year since I bought anything from them, and I haven't noticed any fraudulent charges on the card I used. Would you guys think it's safe to assume that I may be in the clear?
One they catch the hacker (yeah once they do not if) hes so fucked.
Theoretically the guy could be making billions. With sixty four million users, if he had credit card access to even a forth of them and extracted $100 from every single account well do the math. Of course, he won't be able to hold on to it and will probably be rotting in jail till the end of time within a month or so.

I told my parents to check their credit card account, if any funds are stolen, my dad's lawyer friend will sue, and we won't win, but my dad doesn't seem to understand that.
What if this was the beginning of a spree of hactivist acts to reap havoc on the capitalist world. That no one could stop. Benevolent, yet evil. If, hypothetically, the people responsible are capable of keeping themselves under the radar, imagine what the money they steal will allow them to do in future acts of hactivism. If anything this has shown corporations that hactivists mean serious business and pose a serious threat. Who knows what media response this will generate.
They would be able to trace that fairly quickly.

Theoretically
In the end the guy isn't getting a cent, I don't think there's a place on earth he could hide.
Good Job Sony. I'm not congratulating you for letting your entire customer base's info be compromised, or taking PSN down indefinitely, but instead, congratulating you on WAITING A WEEK TO TELL EVERYONE THEIR CREDIT CARD DETAILS MAY BE COMPROMISED What a bunch of fucking dumb shits, honestly. They knew about it a week ago, said nothing about it until now
The guys responsible are practically sipping margaritas on the beach by now.
It's most likely the work of multiple people, no way one guy could just sit on their own and drain all those credit cards.
Probably a Sony insider who knows their security... I doubt anyone could've broken through their systems. At least I hope it's that - otherwise I lose faith in all security systems.
Probably a Sony insider who knows their security... I doubt anyone could've broken through their systems. At least I hope it's that - otherwise I lose faith in all security systems.
I doubt it was a Sony insider, they really are just that stupid.
otherwise I lose faith in all security systems.
You're actually behind the curve on that one.
Probably a Sony insider who knows their security...
I doubt that
Is this a hoax?, do we actually have any tangible evidence?
Is this a hoax?, do we actually have any tangible evidence?
We have PSN users all over missing hundreds of dollars from their accounts and Sony declaring that they have had credit card information leaked. Tell me, are you blind, unable to read, or just stupid?
I only used Network gift cards luckily. [editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
sony kinda deserved this, with the whole geohot thing.
Are you fucking serious
Sony is completely fucked.
I doubt that
Why? Good logic you've displayed so far.
Thankfully I deleted all of my billing stuff from my ps3 months ago, haven't used a credit card on it since. This is fucking horrible news to hear though.
Shit. Just got an email from citi bank saying that someone has nearly driven my credit card to the credit limit.
Shit. Just got an email from citi bank saying that someone has nearly driven my credit card to the credit limit.
goodbye sony
goodbye sony
Except I kind of use the service to play with friends who have shitty computers. I'm pissed at this and I really cant be assed to do anything at 2 am.
Thankfully I deleted all of my billing stuff from my ps3 months ago, haven't used a credit card on it since. This is fucking horrible news to hear though.
If you put your information into the Playstation Network, then it's been compromised.

I still chuckle whenever newsreporters call it the "Organisation Anonymous". If there's anyone who can't organise, it's anonymous. They're just a bunch of kids who think they're l33t hackers for running a DDOS script. It's more likely that a bunch of black hat hackers abused the commotion around Sony/Anonymous, hacked the network and then blamed it on Anonymous. Which is quite brilliant, actually, because of the whole anonimity thing. The simple fact of not mentioning your name makes you Anonymous. Now all the script kiddies think they're even l33ter, because they're 'members' of the group that hacked PSN. Plus even more rebellious fifteen year olds are going to swarm 4chan, turning the place even more into a shithole. Oh wait, did I say into? It always was a shithole. I never got how that place got so popular for posting a bunch of cartoon porn and fads/memes stolen from other sites. It's not worth the bandwidth.
Well, im sure its nothing bad for me since i never bought anything from there.
Well, im sure its nothing bad for me since i never bought anything from there.
Except for everything else that was bound to your account has been compromised. Yeah, nothing bad at all!
