Poor Kim, he's all alone now.
I still have Scorpius with me,right Scorpius?
It may not devastate their economy... you saw how fast South Korea bloomed into what it is today, compared to North Korea in the same time span... so many investors, Billionaires, would just jump in on it that it wouldn't be much of a dent in the economy for the South, I don't think... Not only that you'll have a lot of countries pitching in
Economically strong Germany had a tough time trying to economically reconstruct the former areas of the DDR/GDR in the 1990s. In South Korea's case - with what you've seen of North Korea's economy and living standards - it's gonna be way tougher to revitalize the North up to speed after reunification.

I think it'd be better if North Korea remained it's own territory, and the South installed a new government and helped them rebuild, and eventually hope to unify in 20+ years.

Too much risk that said new government would go rogue from the unification plan.
I am in favour of Korean reunification, only under the auspice of a South Korean upheld government. I really wish we could do something for the poor people of North Korea.
That being said the only way I could see that happening is through a war, and while I don't really support war as an option, if it DID happen, I'd rather the US put its resources into that war than the mostly BS wars of the last two decades.
Also, if I am correct, under the terms of the 1953 treaty(or ceasefire if you will) the US is pretty much guaranteed to be entered into the war. Depending of course on the fact that the North is the aggressor(pretty much guaranteed in any case).
Also if the North did invade, it wouldn't just be the US this time, it would be a joint commission of the UN involving several other countries.

I think I heard somewhere that the malnutrition of the populace over 50 decades has led to the average North Korean height to be nearly half a foot shorter than their South Korean brothers.

Double negative :p
The US should stay out regardless. If there is a war, it's not ours to fight, and I think it's about time that the world stops looking at us as imperialist/a global police force/whatever you want to call it.
Too bad, you're in the armstice and required to fight. Aswell as Canada, Britian, and other nations.

This. Its sort of unavoidable if a war ends up breaking out. But honestly its a much better war to be involved with than the last two.
If reunified then what about the ingrained brainwashed people's hatred? I mean how will they react or conduct themselves? Are the oblivious to how dire there state is?
Love you China <3
Fuck YES! There is hope!
I don't think we will, don't we have a defense alliance with South Korea?
Yes. As part of the Mutual Defense Treaty, we will be there for South Korea.

I don't think it's been 500 years since the Korean War.
Interesting developments here...
I like the idea of this, but what happens to Kim Jong Il?
he dies because hes a old fat fuck
Would be good to see the North annexed without Pyongyang being levelled. lots of cool structures there. Were pointless to build, but cool nonetheless.

That's just what they want you to think.

Where does it say on the Armistice that the nations that once opposed North Korea in the Korean War have to fight in the breakout of a second conflict?
I guess this means nothing stands in the way of another war...
Aren't cornered dogs the most dangerous?
NK is barely keeping their finger off "the button" as it is.
Frankly, I'm surprised their leadership is still in place. The only reason I can think of would be that the Kim Il Sung & Friends reign is only still being pursued out of greed, or they truly and fanatically believe in their own false vision.
I'm sure if King Jong and his son were offered safe and lavish exile, they'd probably forfeit the leadership. They must know their country is a huge piece of shit, they've seen the rest of the world. The only reason the people haven't revolted is because they still think they live in a great coutnry, for all they know the outer world is a giant wasteland. it's rather amazing they've been able to retain leadership.

If the civilians of North Korea managed to see Seoul for even an hour, I wonder what they would do.

Korean war II averted. *
China is actually get tired of communism anyways
North Korea is the worst communist state devised. It's basically an insult to communists. If the soviets from the 1960's looked at today's North Korea, they'd probably say "wow, what a huge pile of shit."
seriously, the place is just, devoid..
China has already said they would only protect NK if they were attacked unprovoked, key word there being unprovoked which we all know won't happen at this rate, NK is making everyone pissed, so I really don't know how anyone could be surprised by this. China just helps NK to be nice and to look good, they don't really like them just like everyone else.

Considering few people in the world have been to North Korea, its safe to say that documentaries are quite a reliable source.
[editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
There was also another really good North Korea documentary, a much newer one, don't remember what it was, though. The guys bribed their way into the country from China..
