Ok, I'm a little bit sad Notch left. I mean, it was his one-hit wonder, and he made history. Still, I wouldn't be honest if I said "I WOULD HAVE NEVER DONE IT MIKROSOFT SUKS I UANNA BE POOR."
Whatever happened to this?
It's been half a year since then, if Notch felt like getting out, I bet big companies like MS were quick to answer his calls and get the ball rolling.
So it's like that flappy birds guy all over again, except in this case Notch is getting a crap ton of money.
So it's like that flappy birds guy all over again, except in this case Notch is getting a crap ton of money.
Or even PopCap with EA.
Hopefully they'll get some good devs that actually can work for a living on minecraft instead of some uninspired hipsters getting paid doing nothing.

I’ve become a symbol
Confirmed
Here's notch's blog.
Knowing his line of thought and track record, I already knew what that sentence at the end was going to be. I think I actually do have some respect for Notch. He created Minecraft for the sake of it, and it became extremely huge. He wasn't prepared for it, and it also shows with his various failed attempts at creating another huge game, but he still had the courage to admit all of it
Meh, minecraft has had some really shitty development hopefully until now.
Confirmed
Is this for real? Or just the dev going apeshit over all the hate?
Hopefully they'll get some good devs that actually can work for a living on minecraft instead of some uninspired hipsters getting paid doing nothing.
you really are undermining the work that Jeb and Dinnerbone in to completely rewrite Notch's fuck ups with the coding in the game, hell the recent 1.8 update fixed a shit ton of stuff notch coded when the game was first conceived
No IP should ever be worth this much. Minecraft certainly shouldn't be worth 2.5 billion. Maybe 2.5 million, but certainly not that much money. What a shitty purchase from Microsoft.
Is this for real? Or just the dev going apeshit over all the hate?
Haha no :v: http://www.p4rgaming.com/dong-nguyen-turns-out-to-be-phil-fish-still-hates-everyone/
Haha no :v: http://www.p4rgaming.com/dong-nguyen-turns-out-to-be-phil-fish-still-hates-everyone/
I might assume my second point then, but it's still Phil Fish 2.0 for me. Or Phil Fish the nth in this case.
Minecraft 2 only on Xbox 1, preorder for exclusive coloured dirt dlc
I don't know, I just assumed Notch had real bad depression problems affecting what remained of his Minecraft/Mojang career. The problem is, the emotional doodoo is getting too popular amongst some indie devs.
Breaking News: Game Developers Are People Like You Too
The main problem with indie devs is that they have so many liberties in PR they get out of control. If Mojang/Phil Fish/the developers of Island Light/etc had advisors to tell them what not to do, they wouldn't do this crap, and therefore they would do better business. But sad thing is, most indies can't afford advisors much.
Maybe it's better this way though.
Breaking News: Game Developers Are People Like You Too
Yeeahh. but sometimes, Work > personal problems though. Personal problems can have a bad deal with performance. Trust me, I tell you this by far experience.
Yeeahh. but sometimes, Work > personal problems though. Personal problems can have a bad deal with performance. Trust me, I tell you this by far experience.
You have like zero empathy for people, are you a robot?
Depression is another thing, but that doesn't deny that most of his depression came from what others establish to be an acceptable look. That's why I said he's a superficial bastard, his best solution would not have been getting depression and killing himself, but face the fact that by just measuring x height he isn't worse than anyone. But I shouldn't direct anyone else because it's their life and they gotta do what they got to do. None of my business. The title of the thread and the OP in general should have been relative to depression, still, not this height chart bullshit.
Like, seriously?
Why I'd probably rather be a record producer or a creative director instead of a rockstar or developer, enjoy the making of ideas, but hate the blind fame.
Minecraft got cheap for me when it started merchandising. I liked the old days of vanilla minecraft where it was all about mining. My brothers and I would try to see what feats we could do without the use of mods or cheats. We'd tunnel through mountains, create canals to cut through land, build massive farms, huge monuments, etc. Adding all the stuff they have like potions, experience points, villagers, emeralds, etc., and merchandising and making it become something beyond what it is in vanilla just cheapened it for me. So I'm not too upset about the buyout because mojang sold out a while ago
You have like zero empathy for people, are you a robot? Like, seriously?
Actually, it's not that I have zero empathy, but it's basic work skills. Corporate Image to be more precise. You represent the company you're working in, as every important employee of it. Whatever a major employee of that company does is what the company itself does. Here, the problem with showing hatred to your audience as a leader of that company means the company itself hates the audience, because that lead represents the company itself. And yeah, maybe that kind of stuff might sound harsh, but that's how the work market AND major videogame companies work. To put an example, Xbox did get out really bad from one of their major PR guys insulting the fans demanding the XBONE to not to have a constant internet connection. It happened, you can't deny me, and that guy got instantly fired because it fucked up the image of Microsoft. And please, it's not right to bring up old posts to fight an argument. Human minds aren't made of rock. EDIT: Yeah, ok, maybe it's too much Asperguers already.

When you have this mindset of "One bad apple on the tree means the entire tree is spoiled", You're gonna starve on the apple farm my friend. Perhaps it's more the case of their leads more than the core employees BTW.
If they release Minecraft 2, that'd be a fun way to avoid the "all future dlc free" alpha thing.
Although we remember when it was just us in pre-alpha, there are now hundreds of thousands of other accounts which aren't even close to beta, I doubt they're worried about it.
Well, can't blame Notch for taking the money and running. He never signed up for such a stressful job, and when it came to a head he decided he wanted out. He'll be able to live a quieter life now, though no doubt people will follow him to the end like Phil Fish. As for Mojang, it's not gonna be as happy- Notch let them do what they wanted, and while that led to update stagnation (still no modding api, seriously?!), it also gave way to smaller, less successful projects like Scrolls that helped add to their portfolio. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't force these few to drop these less profitable games just because "they won't be as popular". I mean, such a practice is pretty Rare, but it can happen.
yeah I'd sell my soul for that money
Yeah with that much money you can just buy a new soul any way and then retire regardless.
Good for Notch! After all the hatred and venom he has to deal with, I can't think of many other people in the games industry who deserves that kind of money especially since those trolls are likely to continue harassing him. Minecraft is a huge so might as well get as much as you can for it. Some people on the internet forget but there are still tons of people who love Minecraft as it is (I'm talking about vanilla minecraft) and aren't so worried about what it could have been or what direction it's headed.
if i was notch i'd give every single Mojang employee 1 million dollars. and then i'd fly to Dubai, buy a sheet of gold from a vending machine, and wipe my ass with it
Here's notch's blog.
IMO he's redeemed himself and deserves a second chance after that admission.
