It's not that I don't understand why he sold it, or that I wouldn't take the money myself, I'm just upset because this goes against everything he said before, making him as hypocritical as the people he hated. That and the fact this will likely ruin the future of such a great game.

Well shit changes over two or more years, promises mean nothing in the long term when unexpected things can come up for one reason or another.
Notch would be stupid not to take an offer like that, the internet would never let him forget for scrapping a deal like that, literally winning the lottery in my opinion. Also, who really cares that Minecraft of all things is owned by Microsoft? There might be more done to it or an entirely new game at the same time, who knows, it's not like anything was being done to it anyway.
Imagine all of the former classmates hassling him now.

In fact I think it's gonna be better if it gets serious development from earning workers.
Is minecraft really worth that much tho?

Well, one part of me says that it is and another part of me says it isn't.
Considering that MS are rich fucks, everything under their grasp is worth for them.
jesus christ the official minecraft forums are exploding

The game isn't. The merchandising is.
also, could someone explain me why some people are thinking that it's phil fish's fault that notch sold mojang?

i mean

the core dwmpgraphic of minecraft is just losing their minds and taking it as a chance to try their big kid words
Its been a hell of a ride, I remember being one of the first 30000 to buy the game. Watching this develop, change, and ultimately become something I dont believe notch envisioned has been interesting to say the least
We still can hope it's gonna be the same game after all.
huh I never thought I would live to see the day that a section was renamed :v:

I bought minecraft when it was in alpha and only had about 1000 - 2000 players. Back then, Notch made a promise that we would get all patches and DLC for free to our accounts and if microsoft changes that, both Notch and microsoft will aquire dick status for eternity in my eyes.
Minecraft got cheap for me when it started merchandising. I liked the old days of vanilla minecraft where it was all about mining. My brothers and I would try to see what feats we could do without the use of mods or cheats. We'd tunnel through mountains, create canals to cut through land, build massive farms, huge monuments, etc.
Adding all the stuff they have like potions, experience points, villagers, emeralds, etc., and merchandising and making it become something beyond what it is in vanilla just cheapened it for me. So I'm not too upset about the buyout because mojang sold out a while ago
It's hard to imagine (I don't even fully understand why) but until now it was still an indie game. I dont mean technically, or whatever. They have like 10 people working on that game. Call of Duty has three game companies alone, Minecraft had a few Swedish guys in a tiny office.

you're getting super worked up over things that COULD happen when the company obviously isn't interested in dlc and is letting mojang kinda do their own thing
also happy 100th post

I hope they keep the same programmers and shit but Mojang has really awful management. From what I've heard the issue behind the mod API was that they tried contracting modders, but they wouldn't keep in touch with them at all so nothing got done and nobody got paid.
