Minorities only matter if they think like I think Gotta be "one of the good ones"
are you telling me gamergaters are an ethnic minority
are you telling me gamergaters are an ethnic minority
He's saying there's minorities in gamergate
are you telling me gamergaters are an ethnic minority
This just in it is impossible for Monkah to be a minority because they're part of gamergate
Not just him. Chris Rock and others have said the same thing. I think they are kinda right and wrong at the same time. Yeah, it'll kill traditional comedy -the type comedians of their generation created- but at the same time it'll give rise to an alternative form of comic. See Amy Schumer for example. Or Aziz Ansari. Not quite the same as Seinfeld or Pryor or Louis C.K., but still funny to a wide range of people.
Amy Schumer is as about as politically correct as a picnic table full of grape juice, fried chicken and watermelon, and Aziz Ansari is about as funny as box of dead animals in a prenatal ICU ward.
the ess jay dubyas that literally want to destroy white people or whatever are so few and far between that they don't matter. they will affect your life as much as a homless dude on the street shouting about reptilians will. the only reason "SJW" became a thing is because a bunch of subreddits dedicated to dredging up posts by 13 years on tumblr going through a phase started to pop up, which lead to countless trolls & memes.
and no biblical irony rating in sight.
Your lack of familiarity with me only makes me happier
This is bordering dangerously on embarrassing internet coolguy-ness
what a wacky thread

Yeah what a fucking Uncle Tom.
what a wacky thread
how the hell did this thread get this bad it's extremely painful to read EDIT: Kinglah Crab you seem to be the main cause of all of this
Hey, tell me how a bunch of people trying to defend great comedy don't have a single funny bone between them to share.
I have a very live and let live perspective on things and I live in Sweden which is pretty accepting in general so I guess it's easy for me to be into offensive comedy because I kinda get it in my head "well of course this is in jest, whoever thinks like this isn't fucking real" and "it shouldn't need to be said that you support x and y because it should be the obvious default stance". Like it's such obvious hyperbole, how could anyone reasonably get upset? But I guess the climate is very different over in the US where people like that actually exist and it's pretty fuckin' scary.

Do you have an actual argument somewhere or just a bunch of epic zingers
Hey, tell me how a bunch of people trying to defend great comedy don't have a single funny bone between them to share.
Why would I post things that people will no doubt find a reason to deride me over I mean Carlin is hilarious but this thread will turn into a shot show if someone post disagreeable comedy
the feminist illuminati boogeyman is out to put us all down for saying bigoted shit! how cruel
this is just verbal diarrhea
Comedy is a hard thing to judge and many people find a lot of different things funny. Too many proper start judging then it's just a waste of everyone's time. [editline]8th June 2015[/editline]
I hope that's not the case, I hope the people who are offended are a really tiny minority. I mean it's okay to laugh at stuff. GEEEEZ.
I do agree with him but I don't think racist jokes should ever be put on in a comedy performance I do feel people are too touchy when it comes to jokes about recent events and movements that have sprung up, unless you're not shitting on the opposite side you're seen as being terrible, if you shit on both sides you're still seen as terrible Idk but somebody might get my drift
Doug Stanhope is okay, he does the grouch thing but he does it better than Bill Hicks. Bill Hicks never even told jokes, George Carlin at least told jokes, he was like: "Why are hemorrhoids called hemorrhoids and not assteroids."
this is just verbal diarrhea
making actual points about things people care about isn't ironic enough
This is bordering dangerously on embarrassing internet coolguy-ness
So you're saying I'm an internet coolguy
I do agree with him but I don't think racist jokes should ever be put on in a comedy performance I do feel people are too touchy when it comes to jokes about recent events and movements that have sprung up, unless you're not shitting on the opposite side you're seen as being terrible, if you shit on both sides you're still seen as terrible Idk but somebody might get my drift
Essentially you shouldn't be making fun of protected groups of people, not unless you actually specify whom you're talking about (like you're criticizing a specific person or people who perform a specific behavior) rather than painting a big brush over everyone even marginally related. I think, in general, going the guilt by association route is a very tricky thing. There are exceptions to the rule though, for example you can address humanity in general and get away with it, just along as you don't address certain subsets at the expense of others. It's also alright to criticize people for things they have control over, like their political beliefs. So, for example, if I (and I'm not saying I would do this) attack Civil Right's Activists on the basis that they're too preachy, that wouldn't be an attack on minorities themselves because the two are not synonymous. In the same way, if you criticize Feminism or Men's Rights Activism it isn't an attack on women or men in general because Feminism and women and Men's Rights Activism and men are not synonymous. In that case, people who get offended and what you force people to self-censor when they insult their political position or their religion really should just stuff it. Your personal beliefs are not a protected identity, but you should feel free to attack someone back if they say something you believe is incorrect. If you want people to actually change their minds about something, you need to convince them rather than attempt to publicly shame them into censoring themselves. Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I think that jokes that discuss and perhaps even use some racial stereotypes can be funny and a good way to discuss some of the differences in the generalized cultures of the races discussed. there's always a line to cross, though, and it isn't always clear, but it should be obvious that shit like "why was the tv floating" and other garbage like that isn't cool
I always find amusing that the most issues sjw whine are about privilege, racism and things that can get solved by just setting examples and changing their own form of thinking towards a more tolerant (about everyone/every opinion). They whine about how people are wrong and how they should feel bad about that. I find it amusing because they actually can get to whine about nothing, while there are places where people are trying to get their issues fixed. Here in Chile we have lot's of issues, it makes the ambient very tense everyday, and when i go to the internet to relax for a bit, I get to see this stuff, and I cant help but laugh. In a weird sense, you are the privileged ones.
to me, there's a difference between racist jokes and racial jokes. Essentially, a comedian will always phrase it so they're making fun of the stereotype rather than the actual person themselves.

I think there is a way to joke about people in general regardless of colour, not saying "all whites do this" or "all blacks do this" but you know their occupation. Using derogatory terms though like nigger, spick, poofter, "squinity eyed fuck", raghead, greedy big nosed jew, mailbox etc. have absolutely no place in comedy. I don't give a shit if they say it from that group, but if someone on the stage said "So I saw some ragheaded cunt..." that would cause mass offence. I get some of you here who are pale as shit say often "well why can't I say nigger yet they can?????" bc I don't think a couple of black people want to see some white as shit fuckwit talk about a race he doesn't know of (only on face value) and doesn't understand that while that word can be said casually by them it can still be used to oppress and hurt them Catch what I'm trying to say?
If comedians start backing down from non PC comedy then everything is fucked, humor is the one thing that lets us tackle issues people would normally get offended about. This is just another example of some shitheads trying to force their agenda on other people since it does not conform to their "perfect" world view. It's like they fail to understand basic human things that its okay for someone else to like or enjoy a thing even if you dont.
Just ask Michael Richards
stop laughing, its not funny
how the hell did this thread get this bad it's extremely painful to read EDIT: Kinglah Crab you seem to be the main cause of all of this
Painful? This is fucking beautiful. I'm loving this. This thread and the one with Flameon are just, oh, just beautiful.
dear kinglah crab, please stop destroying great comedy in your attempt to 'defend' me, im sure im fully capable of defending myself, thanks, - usa minority

are you telling me gamergaters are an ethnic minority
Are you trying to tell me that you're capable of dictating what ethnic minorities should and shouldn't believe in? Am I no longer of Middle-Eastern ethnicity because I have beliefs that differ from a twenty-year-old white kid on the internet? Shit, I've gotta tell my friends that; always wanted to know what it's like to be white. Is Vivian James like the real life equivalent of Runescape's Makeover Mage? In all seriousness, trying to delegitimize someone's opinion on a topic because of their beliefs is a ridiculous and desperate attempt of justifying 'social justice'. Let me say this loud and clear; us minorities enjoy video games, comic books, and standup comedy just as much as non-minorities do. Stop trying to 'speak for us' in your attempt to ban everything that can be described as somewhat fun in life. #NotYourShield
