I legitimately can't upgrade, I have tried everything to get it to work but I can't do it without reformatting my system, which is a no-go. I still get nagged about it.
Well even when you turn off all the data collection services, it still spies on you. Not to mention it scans through your documents for "illegal stuff" and will silently uninstall software it deems illegal or pirated without your consent. Windows 10 has turned out to be an ad-riddled NSA honeypot that will always datamine you whether you want it to or not. Windows 8.1 with start8 is the last good version tbh.
That's bullshit and untrue. This statement is a result of paranoid tinfoil hat people overblowing what microsoft sends for collection. It's not an active NSA spybot that constantly scans your files. If you use a Metro / Microsoft app, it will collect some things like when you used it, for how long, maybe some typed words and auto-correct corrections. Just like Google Search / Chrome does when you search for something, or Apple devices when you do anything on them. It's no different.
Already posted the source for uninstalling pirated software. Here's the source for scanning through your documents. http://www.newsweek.com/windows-10-recording-users-every-move-358952 As for scanning for illegal stuff, just google "PhotoDNA"
you are literally the reason microsoft has to force w10 on people you spew FUD, people get scared and go "muh xyz" and then the FUD just snowballs
My windows has never once advertised 10 to me, it's odd.

"Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails in Outlook.com, or files in private folders on OneDrive), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to: comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies; protect our customers, for example to prevent spam or attempts to defraud users of the services, or to help prevent the loss of life or serious injury of anyone; operate and maintain the security of our services, including to prevent or stop an attack on our computer systems or networks; or protect the rights or property of Microsoft, including enforcing the terms governing the use of the services - however, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property of Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer's private content ourselves, but we may refer the matter to law enforcement." that is the only time "private folders" is ever mentioned in the privacy policy so you're telling me giving a file to microsoft sometimes means they can look at it holy shit stop the goddamn presses alert the media giving a file to someone enables them to look at it in certain situations

This is why you learn to skip updates, I didn't get this gwx malware since I hid the right stuff. Anyways I do not recommend windows 10 for a laptop at all, its good for powerful desktop pcs otherwise no, its very shitty at memory usage and has additional problems that will happen out of the blue. A few weeks back somehow my network connection stopped working completely, I try to check the adapter settings and I actually couldn't, the fucking thing froze completely it fixed itself after I restarted. I have never seen that shit happen ever on xp and 7, and that's exactly how crap windows 10 is.
i recently bought a new PC (prebuilt scrum represent) and paid a lil extra specifically for w8.1
ugh ew
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade? honestly don't really see a reason.
From a commercial standpoint, a lot of companies do not want to upgrade anytime soon to avoid breaking software compatibility. It can be expensive to update software if you're using something in house and there is always the risk of some software that the company uses will not be compatible with the newest version of Windows. It's a lot easier just to update as little as possible and on a delayed schedule.

I'm not sure, I'm on w10 and I've got more than ateerabyte of pirated movies, music and games Nothing missing yet (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - rilez))
microsoft support exists
They couldn't figure it out. They legitimately said to just reformat. I actually did try everything possible from support forums to bringing it to a shop. It's just fucked for some mysterious reason.

As for it scanning for illegal stuff I can tell you it isn't doing a very good job of it, none of my stuff has vanished. Of course if you have any evidence of this I'd be happy to see it.

It's a lot easier just to update as little as possible and on a delayed schedule.
There are even large corporations and banks that are still using stone-aged systems and software because it is too expensive to upgrade (see COBOL). One place I worked as a trainee did have a stockpile of old DOS computers and special embedded systems. A restricted selection of those still active and running 24/7 in a computer lab. They tested out Windows 8 and Windows 10, they said that it was counter-productive and are still maintaining a large network of Windows 7 computers in office spaces and XP computers operating machinery and production.
According to a report by Woody Leonhard at InfoWorld, the newest version of the KB3035583 update includes a background process which scans the system's Windows Registry twice a day to see if the values for the four aforementioned registry inputs were manually edited to disable the upgrade prompt. If they were, the process will alter the values, silently re-download the Windows 10 installation files (about 6 GB in total), and prompt the user to upgrade.
This is why the ability to choose if, what, and when I update with is keeping me from leaving Windows 7. Losing that control when going to Win10 Home from Win7 Home is still my biggest reason to not upgrade.
It keeps asking me if I want to upgrade, but every time I try to go and select it I'm still "notify me when ready." I guess it's a blessing, regarding some of the things that the thread is saying.
Windows 10 is great, but its compatibility issues right now...
Windows 10 is great, but its compatibility issues right now...
I have never had a single compatibility issue.
What compatibility issues there are currently?
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade? honestly don't really see a reason.
I'd probably have to reinstall a bunch of programs and games, which I have a lot of and some of them are somewhat obscure, otherwise kinda hard to find things and some might not even work at all after the upgrade. And I'm perfectly fine with Win7 and have zero issues with it right now.
Changing the registry values is too far that's honestly just spiting people who for some reason or other really do not want Windows 10. I don't have a problem with them pushing it, but that's some bullshit.
They couldn't figure it out. They legitimately said to just reformat. I actually did try everything possible from support forums to bringing it to a shop. It's just fucked for some mysterious reason.
I know it's an alternative with a pricetag, but how about buying yourself a new harddrive to expand your storage (SSD is also just a great upgrade) and install fresh on that. Plop your old C drive in as D drive and spend a little time reinstalling major things, then drop your old program file folders on top of the new install and you're pretty much covered for having everything back
I have never had a single compatibility issue.
When 10 first released.. I had to run everything with admin privileges.
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade? honestly don't really see a reason.
I got some major graphical issues in a lot of games (Particularly GTA V where the entire map wouldn't even load, even after upgrading my drivers). As a result, I just went back to Windows 7 and everything was fine again.

They do that so people or companies have a reason to use azure or onedrive without worry they will be spied on. a example would be the NSA asking "hey can we see what you have on <person/corp here>", Microsoft responds by sending them a encrypted mess and goin "Hey the dude your trying to spy on has the code, go talk to him"
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade? honestly don't really see a reason.
You can't decide when to do updates and which updates you want, you can't fully disable touch-friendly bullshit (new personalization menu, start menu, etc), drivers and general stability is still worse than Windows 7, familiarity takes second place to "edgy" new design, and Microsoft has a shit business ethic that makes me personally vow never to upgrade just because of how hard they're pushing this shit on us.
