'Get Windows 10' Update Turns Itself On and Nags Win 7 and 8.1 Users Twice a Day
You can't prove it doesn't.
The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim, not everyone calling them out.
"You can't revert Windows 10 to work and look exactly like Windows XYZ".
And there's no problem with that, people have things set the way they like. If Microsoft wants to get those people, they must cater to them, not do everything short of overwriting their OS by force. I already disabled updates on Firefox because they're trying to copy Google Chrome's interface now, and if I wanted Google Chrome's interface I would go use Google Chrome.
OEM installs don't get the nag as far as I'm aware. For example people who installed a completely legit copy of Windows that was not pirated at all and activated it with a certain tool have an OEM key, and will not see the nag or have the auto download of Win10. At the very least, I haven't.
I upgraded to Windows 10 from a W7 Home OEM-license, and it nagged me to upgrade the same way it does for the people I know with non-OEM licenses
Also, after I'd upgraded everything worked perfectly, actually better than it had before. However, when a friend of mine tried to do the same, the system shat itself completely (instant bluescreen when the start menu was opened, a 10 minute long boot-time, trying to shut down from Windows just resulting in a freeze, among with various other strange problems)
Mine won't be. I have WU turned off entirely and I screen every update before I let it download. They can't push it to my machine. And for good reason, I demand the right to choose which OS runs my machine. I choose W7.
I've tried cancelling the update as well as 'deleting' it multiple times, but it keeps coming back :v:
Look. I'm using a shitty, 2005 era Microsoft era webcam.
If I can force Windows 10 to make it work with the webcam more easily than fucking Windows 7, anyone who complains about compatibility haven't really done anything.
Hell, I managed to get my playstation 2 eyetoy from 2003 working with windows 10
So take this as a grain of salt but my dad's laptop wich is sightly newer than the one I use got upgraded to W10. But since the laptop uses a graphic card control to handle the screen resolution it became uncompatible with W10, so it looks like garbage now. It didn't look pretty before but now it's super fucked. That's what makes me afraid to upgrade, well that and the fact I might be unable to use an old version of photoshop that came with my tablet, oh and my laptop also uses the same thing as my dad's so I'm guessing if I update it will become a mess and I'll be unable to fix the resolution.
K then go ahead and find me Windows 7/8-style Windows Update, as well as a free Windows 7 start menu (and properly, not like practically all the existing third party solutions that steal focus from current window), as well as improved stability, as well as better nVidia drivers, as well as Aero theme that doesn't look hacked together with black pixels at the corners.
Pretty sure you're gonna get stuck on that first one
I don't think you get what I'm saying - if you don't want Windows 10, just stay on Windows 7. Why get a new OS and expect you to be able to revert everything to look like the old one? You can't reverse iOS to look like 1.0, and you can't get the 1.6 look on your Android M Phone (without a lot of tinkering at least). Same with Mac OS X to my knowledge.
It's just illogical to expect stuff like that in my opinion. You can shit on Windows 10 for all the legitimate reasons instead if you want to.

I think my post was misundestood - I've outlined what I meant above. If you don't want to upgrade (which means "get the whole package"), you can't expect the features. Microsoft (or anyone else) couldn't cater to anyone in the whole world.
I get nagged twice a day by iOS to update my 5S to some software that will practically brick it.. at least Win10 is good software.
I don't even use that first menu shown? Just desktop / personalize window (screen in that video with the, y'know, wallpapers showing) / click button to choose wallpaper, unless it's already been used, then just click it on the row of wallpapers shown.
Yeah but you replied to someone saying getting to the Windows 7 (and 8/.1) wallpaper picker "the old wallpaper settings window" is annoying, not the one in the Settings app "the ugly shit they have now". The only way to get to it on 10 is putting a command into the run prompt or having it as a shortcut.
I will decide when I want to update to 10, and that is when I have confirmed that it won't break half of my games, or that it will even be capable of running some of them (which only just tolerate 7).
This nagging bullshit can fuck off. I will decide of my own conviction, under my own authority.

Actually, yes he can. Anyone with any experience using a packet sniffer can figure out what Windows is sending back to MS. Most of it is just basic telemetry that Windows has been sending MS since Vista anyway, some stuff related to Cortana, samples for Windows Defender, etc.
It was also debunked that Windows removes pirated software.
I'd recommend Windows 10 if it didn't make me dive deep into several options menus just to get Audacity working and let me connect to WiFi, along with the possibility of forced updates breaking more stuff with bad driver updates.
Oh yeah, forced updates are also a thing. Fuck them.

Audacity and LAME both work fine on my machine..
Audacity and LAME both work fine on my machine..
They do for mine now, too. W10 just enjoys handing out incompatible driver updates, especially to older hardware.
Fortunately the Audacity wikia provided a ton of help.
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade?
honestly don't really see a reason.
Because it literally breaks my laptop.
Microsoft seems to think the hardware supports windows 10 and thus forces it on me (It auto updates even if I delete the update) but Dell have refused to update their drivers to windows 10 compatible, meaning I'm faced with a permanent black screen unless I hook up an external monitor, which defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Have to launch this to get to it instead. control.exe /NAME Microsoft.Personalization /PAGE pageWallpaper
I really don't understand why this is the way it is, it's so stupid, there's literally no options in this page, I really hate how they keep hiding all these options from me, and they'll most likely never fix this which is really infuriating.

I don't upgrade exactly because of those - my usb wifi dongle bluescreens windows when i connect it, just like it did on 8.0
Also, this works wonders:

I don't want to upgrade because... i don't want to. Don't shit talk me because I won't jump on the bleeding edge train the instant it arrives. It works, its how I want it to work, and there are no current tangible actually valuable reasons to upgrade yet.
Eventually I might, but right now? No. So piss off.
How do I prevent Win7 from upgrading at all costs? I tried installing it and it bricked my pc and I had to reinstall 7.
Wait, so this thing installs 6 gigs of junk without me knowing? I did notice that about 6 gigs of space just seemingly vanished the other day, where is this crap so I can get rid of it. I'm perfectly content with using 8.
I upgraded to windows 10, spent some time in regedit and gpedit to make it closer to windows 7. Really hated that login screen and force downloading the recommended updates. +Told cortana to fuck off and got classicshell.
Everything works for the most part, but I have this really strange issue where if I preview my webcam in skype or something, I get a BSOD with no minidump files. I can't troubleshoot it or anything and it's driving me crazy, I just refuse to use a webcam on that system.
Would go back to W8 if I could be assed to reinstall everything, waiting for the problem to resolve itself via updates isn't going to happen.
The only problem I've had lately is that Windows Defender literally turns my computer into a potato for minutes at a time.
When I had it enabled, every half an hour-ish it would freeze the mouse pointer and let it update every 2 seconds, and it would last for at least 2 minutes.
That might be because another problem though, I'm not sure.

Except while Mac and iOS have visually changed in the last 5-10 years, the functionality hasn't changed much. Apple doesn't keep forcing you to relearn the fucking core app launcher every release, they don't keep messing with the system preferences menu to make it more ~modern~ for retards that don't know what they're doing, and they don't throw out all familiarity with every new update. If there's a new menu or interface somewhere, they very often make it optional to access. They don't cram it into your face and force you to get with the program.
Windows 10 has: disgustingly separated settings into pretentious metro mode and regular mode (for everything including control panel down to personalization settings), threw out all familiarity with the UI for areas like File Explorer and the Start Menu (just as we were getting used to Windows 8's bullshit), forced us to install over a dozen useless bundled touch-based apps that you gotta go through PowerShell to remove (and even that won't get all of them), and forced us to regularly download updates and too bad if we don't want it (otherwise we have to hackishly turn them off or set up as a metered connection. We still don't get to pick the updates we want. Happy with your current drivers? Well too fucking bad, have an update).
Windows 10 does offer a nice boost in performance and probably (in the long run) stability. But a good facelift would have been great; they need to fuck off with this mandatory updates, metro-in-desktop, forced touch apps bullshit. It seems every time (at least in the past few years) Microsoft is about to release something that people are genuinely excited for, they ruin it right before release and destroy more of their reputation. You'd think the Xbone backlash would have taught them that people don't want to be forced into doing shit, but they're back at it with Windows 10.
Windows 10 is alright, but it has so many minor annoyances that I wish I hadn't upgraded.
Privacy concerns aside, (not going to argue about them one way or the other) functionally I do enjoy Windows 10 but it just does not work with my hardware so on that point alone I shouldn't have to upgrade.
Not like that's even an issue though because GWX.exe and the rest of Windows 7's lame attempts to bother me and pass data to the mothership is verboten on all my machines. I'm going to be using Linux exclusively from here on out though, I'm done with Microsoft's shit.
[editline]13th January 2016[/editline]
Though I do not like how Windows 10's ~minimalist~ approach to settings that I do actually need to manipulate, and as somebody who jumped from 7 to 10 I was unaware of the rightclick/leftclick shit on the start button that 8 had. Maybe if they weren't aiming to make menu buttons fucking gigantic tiles they could have fit it all on one menu but hey, just more cause to go to a linux distro that lets me play with all the shit I like.
Well even when you turn off all the data collection services, it still spies on you. Not to mention it scans through your documents for "illegal stuff" and will silently uninstall software it deems illegal or pirated without your consent. Windows 10 has turned out to be an ad-riddled NSA honeypot that will always datamine you whether you want it to or not. Windows 8.1 with start8 is the last good version tbh.
That's weird, cause I've never had it delete anything on my PC.
I've experienced windows 10 removing ccleaner and a number of other small free applications after an update for some reason.
I've read too many stories about W10 managing to corrupt itself with its updates, it doesn't sound that reliable at all yet.
yeah that's a fair assessment
but I have the distinct memory of pretty much every W7 holdout screaming(i'm exaggerating a tad here) about how terrible W8/8.1 were/are so I don't know how much anything really was the answer here.
But W8 is terrible.
I don't get why some people in this thread have such a hardon for people upgrading to Win10? I'm not upgrading, I'm not reconfiguring all my shit, I'm not reinstalling a bunch of shit that's not compatible. It's a shitty search and a new version number tacked on to Win8. Fuck that.
