• 'Get Windows 10' Update Turns Itself On and Nags Win 7 and 8.1 Users Twice a Day

Windows 10 binary 10 == decimal 2 it's actually windows 2.0!!!! [editline]13th January 2016[/editline] nah the system is actually good and the edge browser is very competent in terms of being efficient with resources and loads instantly (compared to firefox) and runs the same on win mobile. [editline]13th January 2016[/editline] the application layer brings a somewhat needed way to run the same code both on x86 and ARM, adapting to different screen sizes etc, it's good for you [editline]13th January 2016[/editline] while the future of windows apps are unsure, there will be new shit on it that people may want [editline]13th January 2016[/editline] I just hope microsoft will bend the app system to be used for serious programs, because right now it's all consumer oriented
i haven't seen a single notification for windows 10 :(
Win10 works absolutely perfect for me. No idea how so many people have compatibility issues with it, or any issue at all really.
i don't want to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 simply because i have some games i want to play that don't work on 10.
i don't want to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 simply because i have some games i want to play that don't work on 10.
Which games? I'm really curious considering even Diablo 2 from 2000 works just fine.
Well even when you turn off all the data collection services, it still spies on you. Not to mention it scans through your documents for "illegal stuff" and will silently uninstall software it deems illegal or pirated without your consent. Windows 10 has turned out to be an ad-riddled NSA honeypot that will always datamine you whether you want it to or not. Windows 8.1 with start8 is the last good version tbh.
The tinfoil is real.
I want to get w10, eventually, just not right now. Fortunately,I haven't been bugged about it.
I ended up manually overridden the GWX folder's permissions to give me full control of it and it's contents and simply deleted it myself, then deleted the update that re-installs it and disabled the "constantly install pointless shit" setting on windows update. I'm quite content with 8.1 on my laptop atm, especially considering I only got it about 2 years ago.
I've tried cancelling the update as well as 'deleting' it multiple times, but it keeps coming back :v:
It never comes in on mine. HEll, it can't come in on mine, because before it can be pushed to my machine Windows Update itself must be updated. Knowing what's waiting on the other end, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon, sooo...
It would appear that there is now an official way to disable the notifications: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351 I don't know whether this will work for Home users, but if someone wants to try it out, go do it.

And yet, the Windows 8 computer I'm trying to update will tell me nothing apart from 'You will be notified when Windows 10 is ready to upgrade'. Fucking seriously? You take the worst upgrade setup of all time and combine it with one of the most opaque versions of windows, and you get fucking A-grade bullshit like that. How am I supposed to guess when it's going to be ready? Ach. I rage.
Win10 works absolutely perfect for me. No idea how so many people have compatibility issues with it, or any issue at all really.
I bought a laptop. Works fine on 7. Not on 10.
besides the rare driver issues one encounters when they upgrade to win 10, why do people not want to upgrade? honestly don't really see a reason.
shitty drivers that never work, disabling programs that are "incompatible" (yet still work fine), the literal spyware they have installed in the OS, no privacy, etc. to say there's absolutely no reason to stick with windows 7 over 10 is just ignoring all of these issues.
Which games? I'm really curious considering even Diablo 2 from 2000 works just fine.
off the top of my head, the recent rerelease of warhammer chaos gate on gog as well as one of the other warhammer games (i think final liberation?) just doesn't work on win10.
My biggest problem with this is the fact that they've specifically targeted domain joined Windows 7 systems. Going to cause me a lot of headaches at work because with how our infrastructure is configured. Can't run WSUS :( [editline]14th January 2016[/editline] I should add that my users are actually dumb enough to upgrade their workstations to have the "latest and greatest" and expect us to support it. Sorry, but that ancient piece of banking software that we have no control over doesn't work on anything but 32bit Windows 7.
I upgraded and, given the choice, I'd probably go back to 7/8. There are new features I enjoy, but other bad things (mostly customization wise)

All these accusations of tinfoil hat-ing. Well maybe I am being overly paranoid. But on the off chance that I'm not, it'll be good to know I'm using an operating system that respects my freedoms as a computer user. If Windows 10 works for you, that's good! But it doesn't mean it works for other people. Maybe they want privacy to be a bigger priority or maybe they like how Windows 7 just works and didn't try to reinvent the wheel. This comic will always be relevant.

The basic things that are done for metrics are a bit overblown, but Microsoft really isn't that trustworthy with your data. One glance at Microsoft's history of collaborating with the NSA shows that, they never really kicked up a fuss like apple is at least doing. Though, downgrading to windows 7 really won't protect you if you care about that sort of thing.
Can't you disable it through Group Policy ? Found one way
Yes, you can. But for the same reason that we can't use WSUS (about 50% of our client's PCs are laptops that are used either exclusively at home or traveling, meaning that unless they manually connect their VPN for some reason they never get policy updates) it won't work.

I mean, maybe people like Windows 7 because of its rock solid stability and compatibility with everything and don't want to go through the trouble of dealing with Windows 10's new UI and potential installation problems.
