Yes there is actually a reason why this is wrong: Hillary.
Good argument.
We got rid of it in the '90s. What if Trump actually goes through and abolishes electoral college, would that calm them down?
That'd be great, but it's incredible unlikely that he would, and it's only one of the many reasons so many people are angry and scared right now. What'd really help calm people down is if he manned up, went out and publicly announced that all the bullshit he spewed during the election was just bullshit. IF it was. Because that's the problem right now, Trump flip flopped so often and said so many crazy things that it's fucking impossible to tell what he actually thinks, much less what he wants to do as president. His platform is a complete mess, and people are scared that he's going to do some of the crazier things he's been talking about.
There's a difference between being a sore loser and fearing for your life.
That was a pretty good joke, dude.
Don't petition for a redo or for the electoral college to elect Hillary. Petition for the abolishment of an electoral college.
One is measurably more difficult than the other The constitution by design is very difficult to change.
I don't think there's anything wrong in a petition like this, or peacefully protesting or even complaining at all.
no not at all since these protests make it clear that even though they may have the authority and the power to do as they wish, they do not have a mandate or approval from most of the country to wantonly tear up everything that obama did
That was a pretty good joke, dude.
the future vice president of the united states of america tried to divert AIDS funding to conversion therapy for homosexuals
Has a petition ever accomplished anything?
Has a petition ever accomplished anything?
Not really, but it's a way of protest - not as impactful as physically parading the street, but it expresses concern.
Not really, but it's a way of protest - not as impactful as physically parading the street, but it expresses concern.
Just like any other tool, a petition is just a fairly light tool. It's often used quite successfully on a local small level IIRC I mean say my neighborhood wants the local government to address certain problems of like, a really shitty road that's falling apart, we may as well try to petition them first before we all march down to their office shouting, because if the petition is all that was needed then that would be a whole lot of wasted effort and disturbance of peace.
Has a petition ever accomplished anything?
Got Target in Australia to pull GTA5 from shelves, off the top of my head.
One is measurably more difficult than the other The constitution by design is very difficult to change.
Even though I supported Clinton 75% (25% was Bernie during the primaries), I still believe that it would be better to amend the electoral college. I know it's next to impossible to do since you need a 2/3rds vote, and the democrats + republicans are only in power because of the electoral college... ...But if Trump gets the ball rolling then it's not going to stop since that's an idea his alt-right following can get behind, as well as the liberals since both of those groups don't like the current establishment.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I though the US is a democracy. Trump was voted in by a majority, I don't like it but that's how it is. How can you expect to change the results of an election because you don't like who won.

Something like this has never been done and would take almost all trust there is left in the gov't from the people. Trump might be a buffoon but Clinton is not worth setting a really ugly precedent over and inciting more violence. Trump won the election, we have to play the had we were dealt.

Obligatory "IT WAS ONLY 230,000 PEOPLE SO THEY DON'T COUNT"
She lost. The DNC didn't nominate Sanders, as it was Clinton's turn to win the primaries from the start. Stop crying, dry your damn eyes, and turn them towards 2018 and 2020.
Why not do both
the future vice president of the united states of america tried to divert AIDS funding to conversion therapy for homosexuals

CLAIM: Mike Pence supported "gay conversion" therapy, which involves the use of electroshock therapy. MIXTURE WHAT'S TRUE: Mike Pence once supported the use of federal funding to treat people "seeking to change their sexual behavior." WHAT'S FALSE: Pence never stated that he supported the use of electric shocks or "gay conversion" therapy.
lol
So lets say that for whatever reason these people some how convince the electoral college to take away Trumps win and give it to hillary. Whats next? I mean I'm pretty sure a very large amount of people are going to be pissed that their canditate they voted for and the one who won legally and fairly(atleast in their eyes) gets overthrown. The country will become much much more divided with each half of the country believing that they have a different leader or that they are forced into a dictatorship. Oh and Russia would love to take advantage of that situation. It is just begging for an psyops and proxy war.
quote from the article interesting
Well that went well. :v:
the fuck How the fuck do US elections work.
Basically- Every state has an election, votes are tallied. States have electors assigned to them, states with big populations have more. Electors can choose to listen to the popular vote or ignore it (pretty rare). Media assumes that electors will stick with their state's vote, but final vote isn't until December. (Lag in between election/electoral vote to allow for travel&shit back in the day)
quote from the article interesting
The Founding Fathers saw this far ahead, bless them despite the fact it didn't work.
lol
yea, because that's so much better.
the fuck How the fuck do US elections work.
edit: ninja'd, damn
I'm not exactly up to speed with how America works with this stuff So if Hillary gets voted by this Electoral College, does she still have a chance to get the presidency or something?
