Correct. [editline]03:14AM[/editline] That's why you have to move space, not yourself.
I thought Space was the thing that was moving already? Or is that something else entirely?
We are so very....very.. small. :(
And to think many people still think we are the only intellectual existence in the universe (some would even say the only existence period). It's a bit demoralizing if you think about it from an extremely wide area, anything you ever do is absolutely nothing at all in scope of the Universe. It's so big, anything humans could ever do would mean nothing. I'd venture to say by the time we have the knowledge to truly do something that effects the Universe in such a profound way, we would of evolved long ago into something more than Human. I've tried to imagine the size of the universe, going from the Earth and basically just zooming out in my mind as far as my human mind can. After awhile the sheer scope of it daunts me. And that's not to even get into the possability of multiple universe/deminsions. I was born in the wrong time period, should of waited a few hundred thousand years at least.
I thought Space was the thing that was moving already? Or is that something else entirely?
Space isn't moving. Space is exactly that; open space. It is only moving in the sense that the universe is expanding.
Incredible.

to the webway!
Hubble is the coolest thing NASA ever put into space.
Too bad its going to get replaced. Will miss you hubble!

And to be realistic, there will probably always be places like Africa. Also, it is frustrating that people say a god exists that created ALL of that, but still can't fix a few problems on a single little planet? Not to mention how arrogant it seems to say that we are so important that God is constantly watching over us instead of ALL of the rest of space and its inhabitants?

Which is why I think we should start colonizing other planets ASAP, if we're an inter-planetary species it would be much harder for our species to be wiped out.
So if I went to a place where the light from 1940s earth had only just reached, and used my awesome telescope, I would see earth in the 1940s right?
Good luck getting ahead of the light though.
Pretty cool that the universe basically is travelling light
what the fuck are we then [editline]11:27PM[/editline]
It boggles my mind how there could still be people thinking the earth and the universe is only 6000 years old with such simple yet fascinating evidence like this.
THIS IS A FUCKING MYTH, NOBODY BELIEVES THIS. SOME FUCKING ENGLISHMAN IN THE 1600'S DID "CALCULATIONS" OUT OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE. It stopped being funny like 150 years ago.
It's not that new of a discovery/theory/idea or what ever you wanna call it. For a while we've known that the stars are basically just old and outdated childhood pictures of stars that are now teenagers or adults
Good luck getting ahead of the light though.
And actually, if you were to travel faster than the light, it would probably be some time in the further in the distant future once you reach there. Anyone who has read Childhoods End would know what I'm talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_paradox
Riddle me this Mr. Scientist, how can it be billions of years if god only made us 6000 years ago?
Food for thought: It takes 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach earth. When you look at the sun, it's what the sun would have looked like 8 minutes before you saw it. And the sun is a few million miles away. Think about that next time you're outside.
Where can i find HD images of these?

Need ultra resolution now for a new background
I see no problem. I heard somewhere that there isn't enough energy in the entire UNIVERSE to move a weighted object at the speed of light.
Actually, it's not the actual v=c, that in itself wouldn't require that much energy. It's getting TO c that would cost more energy than there is in the entire energy.
Wow, just wow.
Need ultra resolution now for a new background

What Hubble is seeing is so faint, it is only one billionth as bright as what can be seen with the naked eye.
Would be a kick ass wallpaper for sure!

This stuff is such a mind fuck for me.
This stuff is such a mind fuck for me.
Yeah, thinking about how far away other galaxies are... Can't wrap my mind around it.
That's pretty kickass.
That's pretty incredible. I hope they're working on Gliese 86 D too, though, as that's the only extraterrestrial planet that NASA have found that has a chance of being inhabitable.
uh excuse me the universe was created 6,000 years ago haven't you read the bible
our universe was created 6,000 years ago
This is really cool news, unsurprising, but cool. I love the pictures they post with their updates, they're amazing.
uh excuse me the universe was created 6,000 years ago haven't you read the bible
It said nothing about how long a year was, 1 year could have been 10,000 years long for all we know.
This is fantastic, I am amazed at how we are able to achieve such things.
That means we could view historical events all over again :D well not really cause we'd have to travel faster than light to get to a point where we can view the Earth in the past :(
And now we can prove that jesus was a regular guy! Shit would be so cash.
