• Swede saved after months in snowed-in car

Maybe some snow has molten away by the time they got him out. But maybe previously, there was a lot more snow on his car, making it impossible to open the door. And after a few days, he probably was too weak to even think about opening the door.
I'm sure he would have tried to escape...
Why exactly couldn't he get out? I'm sure he could if he tried hard enough.
You're underestimating just how much snow there has to have been and how heavy it is. [editline]18th February 2012[/editline] and I'm pretty sure he tried.
He might be able to get out but where would he go? [editline]18th February 2012[/editline] I rather think it was the car which was trapped and he knew he wouldn't make it walking to Umeå or the nearest place with people/road with traffic.
I feel like it's safe to assume that when he got into the crash the snow was too thick to move out of the way. Then when it began to thaw, he was too weak and think to open doors. You have to remember he was barely able to move when they got to him.
Fools, you interrupted his hibernation.
quotes
Woops.
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
This is the car.

Just as I suspected. He was literally snowed in in his car. [SUB]derped the last line[/SUB]
Christ. I went for a walk and a picnic recently in the snow. Thought my toes were gonna drop off after about an hour.
this guy is hardcore
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
You do realize that when you do this your chances of surviving in the cold goes down DRAMATICALLY right? That's one of the rules you have to know, when you get seriously snowed in or in an accident way out in the frozen nowhere, leaving your vehicle is a death wish. It is amazing that this guy survived this long and was found.
Surely he could have smashed a window and dug his way out?
And be stranded miles from any civilization without any way to get there and probably not dressed adequately for long-term exposure to the weather. Yeah, great idea, Bear Grylls.
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
Yeah I can see you tunneling through the six tons of snow and freezing temperatures and walking all the way back to civilization
Yeah I can see you tunneling through the six tons of snow and freezing temperatures and walking all the way back to civilization
of course, he's finnish
of course, he's finnish
He'd still need 2 liters of shitty Vodka to survive such trip.
He'd still need 2 liters of shitty Vodka to survive such trip.
All finnish cars include 7 liters of shitty vodka in case of an emergency.
Maybe his wife or girlfriend left him.
Surely he could have smashed a window and dug his way out?
Smashing a modern car window isn't exactly as easy as it looks, they are designed to not smash. I assume the snow came up and met with the roof, making it even harder.
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
[t]http://i3.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/007/508/watch-out-we-got-a-badass-over-here-meme.png[/t] I would've cried myself to sleep and just hibernated :v:
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
Basically this. Would have tunneled out if it was that deep.

If nothing else, your boots.
Omg he must have been starving. But glad he had pretty much an endless supply of water, and he probably did eat something else too only the question is: what?
Side windows are not very strong, and I'm sure every car has some hard object inside that can be used to break it. How much weight did he lose?
of course, he's finnish
The title of the thread: Swede saved after months in snowed-in car
Fuck it I'm buying an emergency hammer even though I'll probably never need it.
You'd need something with a incredibly hard and pointy tip, like a emergency hammer: [T]http://deluxerv.com/images/Hammer-glass.jpg[/T]
Not entirely true. If you have winter boots you can smash it with your feet. But if you indeed have nothing at all in your car then you're fucked.
The title of the thread: Swede saved after months in snowed-in car
no i was talking about this guy
Pfft. I would have opened/breaked window and dig myshelf out.
