Well Doom has only been popular on PC
Doom 64? Hello?
And besides, Doom games have only been popular on the PC because they have only been capable of running on the on PC (Doom 64 was a console exclusive so it doesn't count, obviously). Not only that but FPS games didn't control as well as they do on modern consoles today.
ID fucked up when they let themselves get bought out. You can't do what you believe in when someone else is calling the shots.
You can't pay bills or feed your family if you "do what you believe in." They make fucking videos games, they aren't heroes.
will DOOM 4 be like DOOM 2 like DOOM 3 was Like DOOM 1.?!
What is that even supposed to mean? Are you seriously suggesting that people who play video games on a console are inferior and therefore wouldn't appreciate a game where the main objective is to blow aliens and demons to bits?
He means that neither Classic Doom nor Doom 3 were heavily multiplayer-focused team-based shooters with singleplayer basically existing as a glorified tutorial, which is what a lot of the most successful console FPSes have been. So there's going to be more people demanding something that Doom can't be.
It's hard to say whether there would be that much of a difference with PC gamers, but games like Doom and Quake have a bigger presence in PC gaming, so it's understandable why one would assume more PC gamers would know what to expect.

that makes sense I guess. I stopped caring about video games after the ps2 so none of the nerd outrage makes sense to me
WILL Doom 4 take place on earth.?
WILL Doom 4 take place on earth.?
Valve does
Still waiting on some Doom 4 information. They have to have something to tell or show us, right?
A picture of a Demons foot, anything!
Valve does
Not a valid comparison. Valve could treat their customers like shit and still make millions off of hats and other bullshit. It also helps that they essentially have a monopoly on digital distribution of games.
id doesn't have a choice but to "sell out." They are too small to live up to the expectations of people like Aredbomb.

well when is QuakeCon this Year.?
You can't do anything with Doom, nor should you. That's where Doom 3 fucked up. They tried to have a story.
Doom and id games in general are comparable to porn. You don't watch porn for the story.
Well maybe an asexual who suddenly felt the urge to watch some terrible writing and acting would, but that kind of goes against the similie.
God dammit id, why?
Money is why. There is so much more money to be made on the consoles.
"Hurr they're focussing on consoles the pc version is automatically going to suck hurr"
Half the people in this thread.

I hate when people say this. Sure they are leading it by a lot but by no means a monopoly.
FUCK YES! I LOVE SHITTY CONSOLES PORTS!
caps
FUCK YES! I LOVE SHITTY CONSOLES PORTS!

If they are focusing on the consoles, it would lead to a shitty PC port.
[editline]1[/editline]
If they are porting it from the console to the PC, that would make it a PC port, right? I don't even know anymore.
Rage was a piece of shit sadly, had so high hopes for it.
I'm pretty sure Doom is ID's last proper franchise.
FUCK YES! I LOVE SHITTY CONSOLES PORTS!

Yo' dog I ported your console game to your console so you can play a shitty console port while you play a shitty console game
Who cares? When was the last time id made a good game? 13 years ago?
Who cares? When was the last time id made a good game? 13 years ago?
Yeah, pretty much. Everything made after Quake 3 has been mediocre at best.
Quake 4 sucked anyway
Us PC users are too demanding and bitchy. I mean, we're only demanding quality games and bitching when they fail to deliver, but that's just too much for modern developers to accept given how easy it is to churn out constant shit for console users and make easy dollars there.
mmm taste all that passive aggressiveness.
you must be so annoying to be around with in real life.
people can't get over the fact that id isn't the god tier shining light of pc gaming it once was
i still worship carmack from a programming standpoint but id itself hasn't made anything exceptional in a looong time
it'd be nice if developers could give all platforms a high quality product, like how volition created the pc version of saints row 3 seperate from the console version. sometimes companies that are in hot water financially like id have to cut corners and develop for their highest grossing platform and shuffle a port to whatever their secondary market is
it sucks if you're the secondary market, but it's not id being evil and saying "fuk pc gamerz!!", it's them saying "our multimillion dollar game needs to be selling next month and we don't have time to create a PC version, what the fuck do we do"
just get over it and dont buy shitty games/ports, but dont act like you've been betrayed
I quite liked Doom 3.
and Rage was pretty good.
How... does that benefit anyone in the long run?
Focus a game on PC first and you please PC gamers, while giving console gamers a more mature, refined shooter experience.
Focus a game on consoles first and you piss off PC gamers, while giving everyone a watered down, casual-centric game.

i'm sorry, a mature and refined shooter experience?
you fucking shoot things dead, how is that mature and refined? how has anything id made count as mature and refined?
this isn't fucking Debussy at a night of cheese and wine. you're absolutely deluded if you think any hardcore shoot-up game is any more refined than simply MW3.
In fact, out of the crop Bioshock was refreshing in its scope and story and that was pretty much a console game.
After reading the first page, just PC gamers whining because they aren't getting what they want. Grow up, the lot of you.
Rage was a pretty terrible game anyway, just saying.

If you say so. The simple truth is that it's becoming less and less financially viable for modern game developers to invest the necessary time and manpower into creating functionally acceptable, original or unique gaming titles for the PC platform. The simplistic and backwards nature of consoles allow them to all but forget about expanding horizons and trying new things... Instead of asking "Shit, what can we do with all of this flexibility?!" they're sitting there going "OK we need X amount of Y and Y amount of Z; we have X hardware capability and Z overhead, how can we make this fit". There's no creativity, there's just a budget and a set of restrictions to work in, and if you can make it all fit, you've saved so much on development costs that anything but the worst flop possible is all but guaranteed to make you some money.
Game developers used to work with hardware manufacturers, IHV's and even the gaming public in general to ensure they pushed new boundaries and kept everything ticking along acceptably at the same time. There's nothing stopping them from doing this now but a total lack of interest in the face of the pathetically simplistic console alternative that cuts costs and maximizes returns. I mean shit, iD - one of the most PC-centric gamer-orientated developers out there, who could always be relied upon to try something new technologically has all but gone "Ok fuck this, consoles it is".
You can call it 'a good thing' if you like, but it's really only setting gaming's future possibilities back a few hundred steps or so. Consoles will never offer the flexibility and creativity that a PC platform does, and that's going to fuck gaming in general right up it's loose ass all day long.

pretty obvious you don't know anything about the game development process.
and game developers like id used to work with hardware manufactures yes. they did it to force you to buy expensive graphics cards that only work with driver sets built in by the game.
[editline]12th January 2012[/editline]
plus skyrim is still loads better than anything ever so i don't know what you are complaining about.
maybe you should spend more time playing games and less time saying shit about them.
You're pulling shit out of your ass because you're mad about video games. You don't know how game developers think nor does anybody in this thread.
