AFter 3 shit games in a row they really don't have a choice but to make rome 2
How dare they give the fans what they've been wanting for years!
I've haven't really played these kind of games much, aside from the odd hour or two of starcraft and a bit of Red Alert when I was around 8.
Could anyone please recommend a game/series which could get me in to this genre?
RA and Starcraft are really nothing like Total War
Play the original Rome

Rome or Medieval 2 would be the best start then just go onto Shogun 2, Empire and Napoleon aren't that good even though they should be for the time period they are in.
Also, Town fucking Watchmen can hold a city gate against hordes of infantry in Medieval 2, spam them.

Umm maybe try Medieval II, the first one I tried was Rome and going through the tutorial I still didn't understand one thing then I tried Medieval II and no joke I didn't try the tutorial or anything just went straight in the campaign and I just knew how to fucken do everything even though I never played it before. So I would say try Medieval II then try the others like Rome and Shogun.
Shogun 2 is the best in the series so far, shut the fuck up.
With all the DLC and stuff maybe, but otherwise it dramatically lacks variety in units and factions (not much can be done to improve the latter though).
Shogun 2 is the best in the series so far, shut the fuck up.
It has least unit variety of all yet manages to be the most unbalanced of the total war games
Ah so now the Notch thing makes sense. He'll be one of those governors who just sits around eating grapes all day.

I remember when I went on a crusade against Jerusalem and after taking it Egypt was assembling an Army and I had to deal with Scotland back home so I left but forgot 61 crossbowmen and one of my generals (the son of the last king of France :v: whoops) anyways against I think 2000 (been awhile) they killed hundreds with their crossbows then after that they stormed outside the gate and killed another few hundred or so, it was fucken awesome.
I came into this thread expecting some sort of alternate universe game where Rome came to immense power and rose to space travel and shit, I was super pumped for that game.
I was disappointed. But this game still looks fucking awesome. Can't wait, that live action trailer was great.

This is true. Any game where spamming the cheapest unit in the game is a more effective tactic than actual thought put into your armies is unbalanced as shit.
Maybe they fixed it, but the last game I played(months ago), I beat the game easy by just zerging everything.
Shogun 2 is the best in the series so far, shut the fuck up.
i played shogun 2 and thought it was total shit, so I'm hoping Rome does something different for me.

I think Napoleon is the best out of the three that've came out recently.

I didn't come into this thread expecting that, but I fucking want it now
Empire was thebest because of the insane scale, the design, the era, the music. Everything was perfect except my frame rate. Not that Shogun 2 was bad, it was also pretty great.
But being an Archeology and Classics guy, this game is on the top of my hype list.

There was a canceled mmo called Rome 3000 or some shit.
Looking good, but Medieval 2 is still better than rome IMO :v:
And my total war games still crash randomly
I wish they made a Total War on World War I-Cold War,that would be fucking sick.
A strategy game East vs. West was just announced, might want to look into that.
I don't understand the title. What is space exploration referring to? Is it a joke? Is it an odd way of describing the battle maps?
Anyone?
Am I the only person who enjoyed empire despite it's flaws?

Alright, I'll check those out, thanks.
Thanks bobsynergy also.

eh i enjoyed it.
there was just a lot of lost potential in the game.
i haven't played napoleon or shogun 2 so i cant tell about those.
If this is what Rome 2 looks like then I'm eager as fuck to see Med 3. Still, this is going to be amazing

Units in defense mode are absurdly powerful, this goes for rome too. I almost count it as cheating, it's so useful for holding towns that the AI with it's "hurr ctrl-a right click center of town" tactic just doesn't stand a chance.
I think Napoleon is the best out of the three that've came out recently.
Yeah, I found napoleon to be really good and my only real complaint was how the map was cut short a bit and how the Ottoman empire was so crappy.
I liked FotS, but to me it was way too easy once you got rifle-musketed infantry and the breech loaded cannons. You just completely dominated everyone after that.
I'm still looking forward to having an Empire: Total War game that spreads over the entire world.
African Tribes, the Shogunate, 13 Colonies, Siberia, Something in South America...
Man that'd be fun
Am I the only person who enjoyed empire despite it's flaws?
I enjoyed empire (I have 180 hours clocked on it) and I also really enjoyed Napoleon. I just really loved the line battle era with muskets and cannons.
i gasped as soon as I read the title
I am ready.
I've always preferred Empire over napoleon, I don't know why.
