Why does this newsbot get rated late even if it wasn't that late?
what a lame surprise
I think it's a good surprise, especially since Valve has always been 100% anti-PS3.
Why does this newsbot get rated late even if it wasn't that late?
"A hurpadurp. I read about this news somewhere else just 5 minutes ago, so it's late"
"A hurpadurp. I read about this news somewhere else just 5 minutes ago, so it's late"
nah it has usually to do with that this bot is almost always too late, so people just rate every post of it late. it's more like "hey look, a HLFallout post, this is the first time it's not late but I'm just going to rate it late anyway"
What's so special about Portal 2 coming to the PS3?
CORRECTION: Portal 2 will be "Steamworks enabled," which includes community support features, such as chat. It will not accommodate cross-platform play.
No cross-platform.
I sent a email to Gabe:
What happened to all those hate comments about the PS3? Heh. Sony paying you a big wad of cash or something? Or did you experience an epiphany whilst you were porting Steam to the Mac? Well, I just have to say, that I am amazed. I have played Steam games on my PC for years. I am really excited about Steam coming to the PS3, as I have one, and I am scared that my computer is becoming too outdated for your games, but then... Gabe to the rescue! Heh. I have a few questions though. Number 1. Does this mean we can finally download full size games through the PS3? Or are the games fully disc based? I am really hoping for it to work by downloads. Number 2. Does the PS3 version have all the features of the PC version? As in Mouse/Keyboard support, the "console" menu, and possibly even mods? I question about mods because of: Valve has sent along a press release confirming Steamworks integration in the PS3 version -- the only console version featuring that functionality, actually -- providing the game with "auto updates, community features, downloadable content, and more." I noticed the "Community Features". And if it can support mods, does it support the PC modding tools? Number 3. What will the quality of the graphics be? As in, what the in-game options for the PC would be for the PS3? I am kinda talking in riddles. What I mean is what is the quality relating to the PC? "High", "Medium" "Low", etc Number 4. Will games bought on the PC be able to play on the PS3 if that game is ported? And vice-versa? So if I buy Portal 2 on the PS3/PC, will they be on the other platform as well, without needing to buy an extra copy? Number 5. Does Steam work side-by-side with the Playstation network, or not? So do I need to be logged in to the Playstation network to use steam? Number 6. Is Steam a "background" program that runs from when you turn the PS3 on (like PSN, which stays on whilst you play games, etc), or is it more like an icon you press? Number 7. Will Steam support/be supported by the remote play feature, which would allow us to download/pay for games, etc without needing to go directly on the PS3 to do it? Number 8. If the answer to No.6 is that it is a background program, will we be able to chat cross-game, a feature wanted for the PS3 for ages? So if I am playing Portal 2, will my friends who are playing Team Fortress 2 be able to chat cross game with me? And will it have the ability to work for non-steam games, like MW2? Number 9. If you have the Orange Box for PS3 already, do you need to re-buy it or does it detect it, allowing you to get updates, and the such? I never bought it, as have it on PC, and never really though about it, though I am just wondering. Number 10. Are you a headcrab who invaded Valve and jumped on Gabes head?
[editline]11:22PM[/editline]
No cross-platform.
:froggonk: Please tell me that you are a troll. [editline]11:23PM[/editline] He isn't!!! Please tell me Kokatu are trolls.
I was hoping for Episode 3...
As the majority of Portal (and Half Life) gamers are on the PC, I can see this "surprise" potentially hurting Valve by letting them down. Sure, the trailer is great and all, but it didn't tell us anything new, and now we have almost no hope of hearing about Episode 3.
They said "Surprise". EP3 wouldn't surprise anyone (pretty much everyone was expecting it), but this sure as heck did.
Well, this ruined my week.
This whole thing is turning into a giant fucking Console vs. PC flame war. Different people have different tastes, neither one is better.
thank you gabe!!!!!
Too many people are saying it isn't a surprise just because they don't care about the PS3. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean it isn't surprising. I think it's good that they're doing this. People are always bitching that the PS3 lacks games so shouldn't Portal 2 being on it be a good thing. I get that maybe it's disappointing that the "surprise" that people have been waiting for turned out to be this, but it's hardly a bad thing.
Yea now we know why Portal 2 was pushed back. Multiplatform=More time wasted coding the game for each system+less time spent making the game better overall.
FUCK, Steam on PS3? They wouldn't even release a fucking game on PS3! If anything 360 should be getting 'Steam on demand' and shit!
Shitty suprise.
Honestly everyone already knew about this.
Yea now we know why Portal 2 was pushed back. Multiplatform=More time wasted coding the game for each system+less time spent making the game better overall.
We don't really know that. If it weren't pushed back then they wouldn't spend so much time on it. Now that is it, then for all we know they might work on making it a better game overall slightly while they're making it multi-platform. Making statements like that isn't really necessary, since we would have no idea how it would turn out if they weren't making it multi-platform and/or if it weren't pushed back. When the game does come out, it's probably going to be good anyway (hopefully anyway, might not be!) so it wouldn't really matter after all.
This is pretty awesome, steam on PS3 :buddy: Although I didn't know that there were this many fanboys on Facepunch... :Dawkins102:
Both happy and fucking annoyed with the news... Jeez gabe, give us fucking Episode 3 alreaddy...
Posted this in the other thread: I may be a hardcore PC gamer, but it is nice to see Valve branching off to all platforms. First Mac, and now PS3. I honestly think this is a step in the right direction.
FUCK, Steam on PS3? They wouldn't even release a fucking game on PS3! If anything 360 should be getting 'Steam on demand' and shit!
Microsoft wouldn't want any competition on their system.
Shitty suprise.
[editline]07:23PM[/editline] I really was expecting more from VALVe....
*Jaw Drops* If TF2 gets a PS3 update. They better not get an exclusive item.
They will and I will be happy face. That way I can have ps3 token chain for pc and ps3. WOOT!
"I believe we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster."
How could it be a surprise if you told us months ago that you were working on it (technically, they told us a couple days after Portal 1 came out that they'll be making a second)?
Here is the link to the sony E3 recording, for all of you who want to see it http://www.gametrailers.com/e3/livefeed/sony
*Jaw Drops* If TF2 gets a PS3 update. They better not get an exclusive item.
PS3 better not get an update and then leave the 360 players in the dust.
What a shit 'surprise' except the PS3 thing
This is only for PS3 ?? I hope it's not only for PS3 or not is bullshit. Some One can comfirm if P2 get out in same time on PC and PS3 ?
