It was not in reward of maintaining peace. It was as along as he supported Israel.
Every country in that region is committed to maintaining peace and normalizing relations with Israel as per the Arab Peace Initiative from the Arab League.
If what you said about Egypt bringing peace to region was the cause for the "aid", then why don't all the other Arab nations who are just as committed as Egypt receive aid as well? It's because while they wish to maintain peace with Israel, they refuse to support them.
Egypt does both, thus gets cash. Imagine if Egypt (hypothetically under Mubarak's rule still) all of a sudden stops staunchly supporting Israel and stops sharing complicity with the illegal Israel blockade but is still posses all the peaceful elements with Israel, you can't honestly say that they'll still receive U.S. "aid" for maintaining peace in the region.
I like your choice of words there seeing seeing as http://www.facepunch.com/group.php?groupid=1655
Really though, Egypt is the main external player along with being the largest Arab country around. Jordan gets some USAID, not as much but still a bit. Sort of ties in with their smaller size and smaller part in negotiations. Surely everyone is committed to peace, but taking an active role is restricted to a few.
By not complying with the blockade you mean opening the Rafah crossing for any and everyone? Everyone, even Egypt knows that would only result in a surplus of weapons being smuggled in, something that is not very peaceful. Such an action would bring them to a status similar to Lebanon or Pakistan of knowing there are armed militants using their territories and while being able to do something about it, they sit by. Such a thing would be bad for security and also bad for negotiations seeing as Egypt has suddenly gone against previous agreements and opened Israel to danger. Of course it would be bad, but I think it would more be something they would do and then reverse it when they were promised more money.
Also stop this shit about staunchly supporting. It's not black and white, us and them. Some of their actions they are allowed to support because they benefit them too, others they go against like any other nation. After the flotilla raid they eased restrictions on the Rafah crossing, obviously against Israel's wishes. Israel is not something to be supported, it is their actions that must be decided to support or not to.
There's some sort of false belief that needs to stop, that somehow Egypt is the only one who is doing all the work to try stabilize and maintain peace in the region.
This is not true.
Intelligence is provided by many other nations such as Saudi Arabia but I don't think an overt paycheck from the US is the best way to repay such actions. Other nations don't actively attack Israel so that is something, but I wouldn't say they are doing anything other than not waging war.
Oh god, I have a friend who lives in Israel. :ohdear:
Oh god, I have a friend who lives in Israel. :ohdear:
relax, nothing's going to happen
this is just the crazy far-right israelis trying to stir up fear
the reason why Israel haven't had any mass protest. they already have problems with Palestine and the Gaza strip to begin with.

Ohohohohohoho TH89 when will you stop.
Hard to be committed to peace when you officially refuse one player's right to exist. In case you're unaware, Egypt has previously been a huge peace broker between the Palestinians (whoever the hell they are, not like they're even united) and Israelis - it didn't work, but that's irrelevant.

Yeah but they support Qutbism which is basically what the Al Qaeda follow.
They are, it's just Netanyahu, the Israeli president who said "Israel must prepare for the worst" trying to get some form of sympathy.
Netanyahu is the Prime minister, not the president.
